Hi-I'm getting tested for BRACA and CDKN2A. Has anyone been tested for both of these? I'm only 48 yrs. old and have a five year melanoma history, then got diagnosed with BC in December. My OC recommends I have oopher...whatever it's called...the terms are all so new to me I can't keep them all straight...regardless of test outcome. Anyone who has anything to say about this will be a huge help. I'm the only person I know with either of these cancers and I have no one to talk to.

Hi Lucky and welcome to BCO and the biggest family of sisters you could ever imagine.  You are not alone.  I haven't been tested for either of those things, but I know they are done not necessarily for your benefit but for the benefit of your children and siblings.

The oopherectomy is the removal of your ovaries which will put you into menopause and this is done because your BC is estrogen driven, ER+ and also so you can be treated with the Aromatase Inhibitor drugs  and not just Tamoxifen.

My DD2 has recently been diagnosed with a melanoma so I understand where you are coming from with that.  So sorry that you have this disease but really glad you found us here.

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy
