Bethen, there is a really good thread about the procedure.  I'll bump it up for you.

I had one years ago with no problems other than a little discomfort from time to time.  Good luck tomorrow.

I had mine last week. No problem really. I was under the twilight sedation. No food/drink (coffee) was rough...LOL....surgery wasn't until 2pm. I was starving!

The only thing I don't like about the port is that my skin feels "tight." I had my 1st chemo treatment the next day. I was very, very nervous, but took a Xanex which helped.

    Good luck!

I am assuming you have had your port placed so forgive my late post.  I found it to be no big deal.  However, it was right at my bra strap and that was annoying.  As far as using it for chemo - made it so easy and a dream.  No vein burn out, no allergic reactions.  Blood can be taken fromt he port most of the time so not so many pokes on chemo day.   You'll be happy you have it if you could just get around the bra strap annoyance.
