Wine stains on LE sleeve

Okay, so I'm very clumsy and I spilled a glass of red wine all over one sleeve and glove. It was not much wine at all, but of course when it spills it somehow takes on the proportions of a tsunami. Huge mess, but as soon as I mopped it up I ripped off the garments and washed them out. Which left them with huge blotches of blue-grey stains.SurprisedYell Naturally this was my best pair, so I was, uh...bummed, to put it mildly.

Flash forward to two days later when I suddenly remember that I read somewhere you could get red wine stains out of fabric by soaking it in white wine. I pondered that for a couple more days, wondering what a good soaking in wine would do to the compression. We can't use bleach, fabric softener, you name it -- but nowhere have I read that we can't soak our garments in wine. Must be an oversight on the part of the manufacturersLaughing!

So I tried it. Fifteen minutes later the white wine had taken on a pink tint and I was hopeful. So I washed them as usual and -- ta-da! -- they look like new!Kiss Doesn't seem to have damaged the compression either.

Just thought I'd pass that along, to store in the back of your mind in case you ever need it. These accessories of ours are so stupid expensive that ruining them with wine amounts to a financial disaster. No sweat! Just crack open another bottle!Wink

Now, how to get the chocolate stains off my gloves....Embarassed

Hi,  Good to know, It also works for carpets. Maybe white chocolate would help with your glove.  HaHa  SharonH

So funny Binney--not!  I got an oil stain on a gauntlet from a gas pump.  I usually put on a plastic glove on top but did not when I got gas this time.  It did come out with the dreft that night but it still smells like fuel.  Luckily it was my oldest gauntlet!  It has made me almost left handed!     Becky

Have a glass of wine.  You will feel much better about your colorful garments.

More seriously, clearly you are not going to use an iron over a paper towel, the usual solution to candle wax.  Assuming you have peeled away all the above-surface wax, what about warming the garment ever so gently and massaging in some vegetable oil to help liquify the wax?  Blot, and then use your normal laundry product to remove the oil and wax?

Binney, or freeze it and crack it off?

Just what are you up to with the wine and candles??? Sounds like you're having way too much fun

Someone gave me this idea for getting gum and junk off a carpet or off wood..I think this would work on a compression garment.  Cover the spot with apple slices then cover it all with plastic wrap.  Supposedly the mild acid from the apple will "melt" the debris and then you should be able to clean the item as you normally would.

Binney, I'd go along with freezing it (put the garment in the freezer).

That must have been some party!

Yes, well, an hour or so after I posted the candle-wax question it occurred to me that this thread sounds like a romantic evening gone seriously wrong.Kiss

But no. My beautiful evergreen-smelling pillar candle needed some of the wax trimmed down, so clever me thought that rather than trying to hack through a half inch of cold, hard wax I'd just light it, get it nice and soft, and make an easy job of it. So I took my handy-dandy kitchen knife to the still warm, wet candle and...I'll leave the rest to your imaginations.Tongue out A cautionary tale.

So, the glove's in the freezer, where no compression glove has gone before. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Those "garment care" instructions just don't go far enough, do they? What do they think we do, sit with our hands in our laps?!Undecided

    <sigh!>

Earlier as I was reading this about the wine, I was thinking to myself.....hmmmm wonder if the wine aroma stayed after the washing?  Now I'm thinking.........wine and evergreen.......who needs perfume!

So, you freeze it and the wax gets hard enough to just sort of break away, but not entirely because it's in all those little spaces in the fabric. And it's still green, just not as solid green as it was before the freeze. So I got the faucet water as hot as it gets (which in our house is pretty hot) and ran it under the faucet, rubbed some soap on it and massaged that in, rinsed it and -- I'm back in business!Smile No green. It's not stiff, either, so I'm hopeful. I'll give it a regular wash cycle now and hope I haven't ruined the stretch.

Man, I just looked down at all that green wax on my glove right after I'd finally solved the wine incident and thought, This can't be happening to me!  Thank you all for the suggestions. Tomorrow I'll be sitting on my hands.Yell

    Be well!

Binney, it didn't sound like a romantic evening gone seriously wrong. It sounded like a romantic evening gone seriously right!

Sigh. And then it turned out to be cleaning up, business as usual. Burst my bubble.

Sheesh Binney!  Couldn't you have made up a nice romantic tale for us?  Reality is not as much fun sometimes.  Becky
