Cracked, bleeding nipple = recurrence?

Options

Warning -- Gross Alert!!!

Just happily (!!!) celebrated my 3 yr. "cancerversary"  a few weeks ago.  About a month ago, the nipple on BB ("bad booby" -- i.e., the one that had the tumor) began to crack and bleed in the area where my nipple joins the areola (not the center of the nipple where the milk would come out). Since then it has scabbed, healed, and re-cracked and bled.  My lumpectomy scar runs right up to the area that is now bleeding and cracking.

I have my bi-annual mammo and check-up with my surgical onc. in 3 weeks, and was just intending to ask him about it then.  But when DH noticed it, he insisted that I call today.  Onc. says 3 weeks is too long to wait and wants to move up my appt. to this week.

So I was only marginally concerned about this until I called the doc -- now I'm worried.  Anything else you ladies could think of that could cause this that would involve a happy ending!!  I need to focus on positives!!

Mary, it does sound a bit worrisome, but have you possibly noticed extreme dryness anywhere else -- maybe a winter skin condition that's simply exaccerbated exactly where you skin was radiated?

For now, try to focus on the fact that you did everything you needed to do -- chemo, rads -- so it's unlikely it's returned, especially after rads to that area.

Hoping for a B9 explanation for you ~     (((Hugs)))   Deanna

Thanks Deanna!  My skin is always dry, so hoping that's it!  Have managed to scare myself reading about Paget's -- after saying no more "Dr. Google!!"
