I had surgery on Dec. 5th. (dbl mastectomy) tumor was 2 cm IDC and some DCIS.  Today the results came back on Oncotype test - doc called and said score was a 53 so I will need chemo.  Does anyone out there have that high of a score??  Thanks, Rhondalee

Mine wasn't that high, hopefully someone will come along in a little bit that can help. Were you her2+ or triple negative? If so that can account for the high score. Remember the oncotype predicts how receptive to chemo you will be. From what I've read, and I have a friend who is triple negative, chemo would be the most effective treatment since you would not respond to horomone therapy.

As I mentioned on your previous thread, if a doctor knows from the biospy pathology that the tumor is grade 3, ER/PR negative (or very low +), and possibly HER2+, an oncotype will not be done because it is already known that the oncotype score will be high.

Therefore, for those of us who may have oncotype scores as high or higher than yours if the test was done, never had the test done as it would have given results already known to exist.

Our doctors already knew and informed us that chemo was the way to go as it would be highly effective for us.  Before I had my HER2+ test results back, my oncologist already had told me my chemotherapy treatment and said, "And if you  are really lucky, you will be HER2+ so you can take herceptin."

Of course, I thought she was crazy for telling me I would be "lucky" to have something else that added to the aggressiveness of my tumor.  However, after becoming better educated about BC, staging, treatment and recurrence risks, I totally understand and agree with her.

By the way, I also had a KI67 score of 70%  on my biopsy sample.

My Oncotype score was just about 53, too.  And my Ki67 was 90%.  This was on my first cancer last June 2010.  Mine came out high because the test determined my cancer was TN, but just by a fraction.  I did have a recurrence, not a distant met which is what the Oncotype is checking for.  Well actually, the belief is that I had cancer that was missed the first time around.  Anyways, I've since had DD AC-T and a BMX and now finishing radiation, and the PET scan showed me to be cancer-free.  You will get through this.

My oncotype score just came back at 47 but I had already had chemo due to my age and grade.

PS- My name is also Rhonda Lee.  Maybe the name is bad luck for breast cancer!
