Positive Thinking

I know reccurence is always possible with this disease, but I'm wondering if I should be overly scared/concered with the outcome of my mother's diease:

microcalcifcations... turned out to be a mix of DCIS 1.7 and IDC 1.1 cm, ER+, PR+, HER-, Sentinel Biopsy -ve, no family history, oncotype score 11, no chemo

Lumpectomy + 3 weeks Radiation (done) + Tamoxifen (until 2016 :(:(  ) -

I've been scared to death since she was diagnosed in May 2011, and have not really recovered since then... I'm just starting college.. and I feel like a grandma already from all this worrying... and the worst of all, is my mom looks to be for reassurance but I'm a mess myself.. this thing sucks!!

My mom had a history of benign cysts (uteris) that would explode and cause bleeding.... her doctor prescribed to her... on more than on occassion hormone pills (for a week or so) to stop the bleeding everytime she had it. Does anyone have any idea if that's what could have caused the BC- the hormone she took... and if So, was there an alternative way for the doctor to treat the bleeding cyst...just need answers

Does anyone else with the cyst problem take tamoxifen-- does it create any more problems? I

 thanks for reading my post

Try to relax.  Your mother's diagnosis and treatment is very similar to mine.  I have every reason to beleive I will live a long and full life for another 30+ years.  I am 47.

Your mother has won this round, and is taking the Tamoxifen to beat off any further rounds.  She probably is clear for AT LEAST 10 years before any real concern or recurrence or new cancers.

As far as the cysts and the prior treatment, well, because her cancer is ER/PR + it is certainly possible that the hormone treatments added to the advancement of her cancer.  However, that does not mean it was improper treatment. There was no way to tell that she would develop BC.  She will likely be better off with different treatment for that issue, if it continues to arise.

I do not believe that the tamoxifen will affect the cyst problem in a negative way, but her OB/GYN and oncologists are the ones to ask.
