M & M you are KILLING me here...Love, love, love. I can't get enough.
To keep this on a marijuana related track, next week I am going for the first time to an open meeting of the Coalition for Medical Marijuana--New Jersey. Should be interesting, and really hoping I can contribute something to the cause, even if it's just stuffing envelopes or something. If any other sisters are in the area (Lawrence Twp.) and are interested in coming, please send me a PM.

Hi grannydukes How are you doing? SharonH here
-
Ah-HAH! I found you gals!!! What IS this, the "BAD GIRLS CLUB?" Ha, ha!
It's just a shame, that it's kind of like a secret that we try ANYthing to help us when we're having so many problems.... And yes, big drugs ARE the problem...and so easy to get!
I found this cartoon once.... showed it to my Daughter, and she laughed her butt off, because it was SHE that I went looking for after staying all night at her "friends"? house, & there were signs all over the yard that said "Smokin & Tokin HERE!!!" So funny now, because boy was she grounded!
THEN we found this huge flower-pot upstairs in their room, when she was about 15, with this tiny little plant in it.... DH surmised that it was inDEED a baby MJ plant, which he promptly carted downstairs & threw the whole thing over in the ditch! And then I had asked her to bring her little cloth bag down, so I could wash it.....
Well she didn't, so I ran upstairs & brought it down....Out dropped a pipe, a baggie with grass in it, and some papers!!! Oh sure she had her wallet, lipstick, etc, but man was I surprised! I waited until she got up, & she watched in horror as I flushed those seeds down the toilet. Took 3 flushings before they all went down.
She said the pipe wasn't hers.... Oh sure.... Whatever!
She is 50 now, & we laugh about it....says she wanted to jump in that toilet & grab her stash...Ha!
I found this thread because my sweetest friend "Kantalope" (Grannydukes) is here, and trying all she can to get help! So I read what you all are going through... And I am amazed that you can't get prescribed MJ for the debilitating problems you are having! Can't you just grow it yourselves? I mean my Daughter did.... or TRIED to...till we disrupted her plans...
I was always the chicken one, so afraid of WHAT..... to try smoking grass... I mean my little Brother did... but I thought I would go nuts or something!
And believe me, here in Denver, we have pot-shops on almost every corner! My Daughter's boyfriends' Mother grows the stuff! But it's supposed to be a secret to me... So I am kept in the dark...
Because I think "they" think of me as "miss goody-two-shoes"...Ha!
I can't figure out how so MANY shops can sell it, but you gals can't GET it, even when it is understandably needed! Hope you go kick some butt.... So carry on girls.... I just hope you are all okay.....
Best wishes to you all.....Take good care....xoxoxo

Hi Chevyboy
To answer your question quite simply, it's a state law thing. In some states, medical marijuana is legal. In others, "compassionate use" is legal. In other states, it is just flat out illegal no matter what. Colorado allows for Medicinal use and also has more lenient laws for recreational use than New Jersey. (Remember, in states that don't allow medicinal use, even when one uses it during chemo, it's considered "recreational". Yeah, boy did I have fun smoking pot during chemo...NOT! But it sure helped with the SEs!)
In Colorado, for example, even without a medical marijuana prescription, one can grow a few plants or possess up to 2 oz (enough for Cheech and Chong to stay high for quite a good long time) and it is considered a "petty offense" - less serious than a misdemeanor - with $100 fine and no chance of incarceration. Whereas in NJ, possession of even a gram of marijuana is a "disorderly persons offense" with a $1,000 fine and potential for 6 months incarceration. And don't grow it in NJ! Even growing one little plant is a felony offense, punishable with a $25,000 fine and 3-5 years incarceration! If you grow enough plants in NJ, mandatory minimums come into play, so even compassionate judges have their hands tied.
If you want to see your own state's laws, go to Norml.org/laws and click on your state. You might be surprised!
We need reform!
-
I keep loosing my posts...darm computer
-
so why did the short one go thru and not the long one....one more try...lets see if the 3rd time is the charm....
Even though MMJ is legal in Colorado, you have to apply annually and that means doc visit fee and application fee every year....also most "mainstream" docs won't write the recommendation...so usually it means going to a doc "associated" with a dispensary which are just about on every corner and these docs advertise a good deal in the surburban papers (not the Denver post generally).....But the stinky thing is that even though it is legal and you can have an MMJ card, you can still be fired from your job if you test positive for pot in a random pee in a cup test!!!! it happened to some guy in Denver who was a street sweeper...he had an mmj card...and didn't smoke at work (forget what he had the card for) and was fired...he took it to a higher court but the firing was upheld......Cancer is one of the approved condidtions for an mmj card, but depression, anxiety etc are not in Colorado (but they are in California)....We got to do what we got to do.....and I hope that the gals that need it get it....
-
Karen,
Good points. I don't think that there is a state that really has it all sorted out yet (someone please correct me if I am wrong...) but CO is certainly closer to the goal than, say, Texas! And then of course there are the states like NJ which has passed Compassionate Use laws years ago yet there are no dispensaries here yet, and all kinds of political red tape holding things up. Or MA, which passed Medicinal Use legislation too but not actually in practice yet - at least in MA though, the penalty for personal use is minimal, unlike NJ. -
One of you gals said something about asking a "younger" person.... They probably know all kinds of ways of getting it for you....I mean you gals really NEED it, and it's next to impossible to get it.
I think if someone told me I couldn't get any, if I wanted it for pain, I would figure out a way of growing my own! Hell, I can grow tomatoes, why not pot? And I would grow enough that I would have enough for the Winter! Can you save the seeds & plant them? Where I live, I could DO it with no problem....I mean if my 15 year old Daughter tried growing it in her room, why couldn't you grow it in your garden?
Just a thought.....
-
My son is a medical marijuana supplier in Colorado. Unfortunately, I live in Texas, and the risk of him being 'busted' here if he brought me any outweighs my desire to 'try it' for my pain. As Stage 4, I know (hey, I'm admittedly an old hippie) that it would help, my pain, my appetite, my mood, etc. But again, I won't put him in legal danger. Texas, as a 'port' for all the junk coming across the border, is very tough on drug carriers. But I think we'll see a shift in the next few years as more states legalize it. ( I could get some MJ from "friends" here, but it's not medical grade; that is specially genetically engineered seeds that are more potent with the THC component). As this disease progresses, I will probably obtain some illegally... those darned hippies.

Here is a link to the 16 states with medical marijuana laws... you can do your own search on further information for your state.

Cannot wait till tomorrow when I call my Dr Gastro and tell his nurse the insurance c.refused to pay.Now lets see exactly what she is gonna do!!!!!!!!I have been asking him for about 15 yrs now.Now that its legal and i DID have cancer I do have a gazillion problems with my stomach I deserve it!!!!!AND IM NOT PAYING $749.00 a month.....I want it legally......
-
granny: I can't believe it costs that much !! That's stupid, when you can 'grow it' yourself in some states. I'll be praying for you.... !!
-
Grannydukes, $749/month for Maranol? That seems crazy! Not to mention, I don't believe it works as well as the natural, unprocessed stuff. I will definitely ask about this at the meeting...never really considered insurance issues, since a reasonable monthly amount of MJ "from the street" for lack of a better term doesn't cost anywhere near that much! Sorry you are having such a hard time and I know you will give your docs/insurance co hell to get some answers and relief!

Blue-I sent you a pm

hi ladies,
Wow are you informed. In Arizona mm is legal. You still have to "apply" for a card and then I think go to dispensary. I asked my onc about it last week, and explained how stomach issues are really hard for me. He did give me a rx for the synthetic marinol. He said from his experience most patients have to basically "get high" to feel benefits!! Like narcotics don't do that?? Tried to fill but pharmacies only had 10mg tabs and my rx was for 5mg, so I am going to call mo office and see if they will call in change. Then see if it helps. I am also really curious of cost.
My mother died of colon/ovarian cancer at age 34, I remember the horrible side effects she went through and have always been an advocate for legalizing m. I think it would have helped her side effects so much!
Bluecowgirl, good luck!
-
Sara-Will your insurance cover it?
-
walgreens had 5mg dronabinol (generic name for marinol) charged 375.00 dollars. my co pay was 15.00. Interesting if nothing else.
Sara
-
good for you.I am gonna ask my Dr for that instead. Why didnt he know that??????
I am sooo angry right now.My drs office never called me back(what else is new)
Interesting to say the least!!!!!!!!
-
So I'll display my ignorance. Is mm THAT much more effective managing the SE's you want managed than OTC meds? I guess I wonder if it is worth all the hassle an legal aggravations.
-
Hello Ladies,
I love this thread as I think it is ridiculous that it is not already legal in all 50 states. Since I am from Washington I was already "green" friendly before my diagnosis. I have been in active treatment since May of 2010 due to two additional diagnosis. That said I have not gotten my card for fear of the big brother aspect of being on a "list" that the federal government may choose to do something with in the future. Okay, maybe a little paranoid (not I am not high) but not necessarily outside of the realm of possibilities. I will be getting my card and throwing caution to wind as I am getting to the end of my rope with all this pain and anxiety from treatment. I'm hoping the pure medical forms will be prove more effective. Besides, medical is cheaper here. Now if I could just clip a coupon for it I would really be in heaven!
Here in our state you can get your card quite easily and your choice of "medicine" even easier. For those ladies who would like to find a connect, I agree with the suggestion of throwing out subtle hints. You will be surprised who partakes.
Keep up the great discussion and good luck to all of you!
Momine and Mandalala......You guys crack me up! My grandmother is from Denmark and I just have to say her cooking was never really that good. I for sure never liked her tapioca, oothgooth (sp?) or pickled herring. Yet she still insisted on bringing it to every holiday. Traditions are great!

Hoping BlueCowboy comes on and lets us know how she made out in NJ.

Here is some good news regarding medical marijuana and lung funtion

inmate,
I LOVE it! I can't believe I sparked such a poignant thread, but happy others might benefit---although I'm still where this all began...............

I was taking many Rx meds for pain and nausea including opioids. I wanted off because of SE notably constipation and general out of it feeling. When I spoke to the oncologist about marijuana he said that it had been known to help. He did not volunteer a Rx nor did I ask. I decided that marijuana would be my palliative drug of choice and that I would obtain it illegally. I am willing to take the rap if caught. Yes officer it's mine and mine alone. Are they going to put me in jail? It wouldn't look good: woman with terminal illness gets jail time for possession. I would definitely not go quietly, the media would be very involved
-
Got a letter in the mail today that the insurance will not pay a dime for this maranol.
I dont have HIV,MS or in active tx.so when i was in active tx.no dr.would give it to me.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
I live in Kansas and its not legal here however I did purchase some and made brownies. Not for pain so much but my mental state was terrible and yes it helped. I also didnt get the munchies however when I went shopping I asked for a low grade so maybe that helped. I did tell my shrink about it and she didnt seem to think it was a problem. When you have or have had bc look for any window that you can to make it easier. I have had nothing but issues since I finished treatment and I want it over. I take xanax also but it just mellowed me out
-
Granny, sent you a PM.
Well, I have now been to a couple of local meetings, and as of today am officially "out of the closet" as a medical marijuana advocate. Here is some of the local footage from today's press conferece/protest on the steps of the New Jersey statehouse (that's me with the turquoise scarf). There are a lot of really smart, well-educated people who are very committed to this cause, and I am very optimistic about a change coming soon for New Jersey...
