I want to be blonde again!
How long do I have to wait to color my hair? I used an ice cap during chemo and only lost about 20% of it (I'd cut it short before chemo, which also probably helped). I'm wearing a wig as it fell out in sort of a strange pattern - it looked like the "New Wave" haircut my sister had in the 80's, like I'd shaved it on the sides :-)... but I'm lucky that's all I lost. I'm also not taking off the wig till I can do something about this boring mousy color that I've now realized is my natural one - who knew - that also has much more gray now than I ever did before. As soon as the very short patches grow back in, I want to go back to blonde. I know I can't do it yet, but does anyone know how long I have to wait?
And yes, I've looked into the BC and hair color link and the latest research seems to disprove it. That makes me happy.

I waited until my hair was about 1/2 inch long and then I colored it. It was completely grey/white before I colored it. I did not want to feel that old.

I first tried semi-permanent color about 4 weeks PFC, and it didn't work a bit, then about 6 weeks PFC I used my regular Wella color. It was just fine.
My natural color used to be dark ash blonde before chemo, and it came back white on the sides and very black in a line from my forehead to the back of my head. I hated it too and couldnt' wait to get rid of it.

I would just go for it! Short platinum hair looks chic. Or whatever shade of blonde you choose, with pretty make up it will look great!

Since there is no color on your hair now it will be easy to color, it's like virgin hair.

It will turn out really pretty.

Go for it!
the time is NOW!
best wishes

Congratulations on keeping most of your hair. Have you looked into hair extensions to cover the missing bits? They are much lighter and more comfortable than wearing a wig.

Hi and thanks for your comments and advice! I just want to make sure i don't do it too early - it would be such a shame to have made it this far and then have it fall out afterwards!
Racy, my hair is still pretty short - like a pixie - and I'm not sure they do extensions that short? But it's worth looking into when it gets a bit longer - I am SO tired of the wig.
I had actually planned on cutting it short and bleaching it platinum before the chemo - and when the nurse was going through all the pre-chemo preparations to make and said I could no longer color my hair, I literally stopped listening to the (fairly important) info she was giving me, had a brief OH NO! moment and had her back up and go through that again, "Um, are you SURE about the no-hair-color thing? How about just one last time?" and she looked at me like "You're about to stuff your body with poison and you're worried about your hair color?" Well, yes... Priorities, priorities...

I waited about 9 months before having it streaked blonde again - safer to wait a while I think.
