liver numbers high

I am usually just lurking on here and find that this is supportive enough but now I am just going nuts... I had my usual 3 monthly onc visit and my liver enzymes were very high so onc has taken me off some of my medication and have had another blood test and also will have a stomach and pelvic ultrasound next week.  He said that the numbers were very high and that my liver is inflamed but he thinks it is probably due to all the meds I am on but wnts to do an ultrasound just to make sure.  I am probably just being paranoid now but he also wouldnt let me have my port taken out yet and I finished my herceptin last June.  He doesnt let me see any of my reports and I am usually happy with that otherwise I would never sleep with worry.  I have read on the internet about liver inflammation and also liver mets and I seem to have a lot of symptoms being, stomach bloated to the extent I have to wear larger waisted jeans, fatigue and nausea, I also have pain in my back...I have to wait another week to have this ultrasound and have been worrying all oer the christmas holiday, I saw my onc in mid December but because I was going away to Norway for the holidays he scheduled the tests for this week, so I would love to hear from someone who has had similar findings like elevated numbers, Denise

Hang in there, you should get some answers soon. I just wanted to respond even though I do not have any experience with this.

Hi, I'm sorry you are going through this. I had surgery the day after I started chemo. Weeks later, my MO discovered I had elevated liver numbers that took at least a month (probably longer) to resolve. My MO said general anestia can cause this and just monitored my numbers.

Three weeks to a month after my BMX I went to my PCP for bloodwork and a urinalysis because my urine was very dark, like a kind of brown.  I had also started a new cholesterol medication and was supposed to have enzymes check for that reason.  When the nurse called with the results she said they suspected I had hepatitis, my numbers were so high (found out later they were 4 to 5 times the normal range).  They ran a hepatitis panel, and I did not have hepatitis.  This is before I even started chemo or herceptin.  They told me to stop the cholesterol meds at once, which I did, and by the time I started chemo a few weeks later they were back pretty much to normal.  They've been ok every since, with mild elevations occasionally, but nothing worrisome to my onc.  That was two years ago.  I think it was a combination of the surgery anesthesia, all the different pain meds, etc.  So they can go up for lots of different reasons.  Getting off the meds may help a great deal, and it sounds like your doctor is really on top of things and checking you out thoroughly.  Sorry you're going through this worry, hope your ultrasound goes fine and all is well.  Keep us posted.  Veda

Sorry you are going through this.  I had elevated liver enzymes during chemo.  My onc took me off all  the other meds I was taking.....couldn't even take Tylenol.  Eventually they went down. Many meds are metabolized in the liver, so they can definitely effect your numbers.  Hope your ultrasound goes fine.  Sending hugs and positive thoughts.

I had high liver numbers once, so bad that my doctor accused me of lying that I wasn`t using alcohol!!! I WASN``T!!! Anyway, it turned out to be Nexium, a drug I was using for my stomach. So please make sure your onc knows EVERYTHING you put in your mouth, even the ``natural, herbal`stuff as it can raise numbers too!

thankyou all for your posts, somehow it makes me feel a bit better that someone else also has had high numbers and its due to meds, I really deep down do think that it is my meds and not liver mets but my symptoms wont go away especially the bloatedness and pain.  My dh thinks I've got a lot of 'wind' lately, I always say that the pain is trapped wind so he doesnt worry.

Starbeauty:  dont worry I will never go over to the dark side and hope your us is normal Smile

Barbe1958  could do with some hebal stuff, it might calm me down a bit he he

    Check your meds, esp. supplements...

The extra calcium is a huge culprit in raising numbers and "wind" and bloat.  Try easing off all supps for 3 days (except for necessary meds) and see how it goes.

good luck.  No no no to herbal anything!  They can do a real number on liver counts.
