I am a partner in a large animal veterinary practice.  This is of course our busy season.  My partners are very understanding and the community(about 750 people) are really rallying around us.  Di and I have known each other for only 6 years(today) and were only married last jan 1st.  This is a second marriage for both of us and we both thought divorce was a tough row to hoe.  Anyway, without getting into a deep discussion of her diagnosis- we just got her first Pet scan and there are to many tumors to count, in other words- not good.

I am trying to figure out how much work I'll be able to get done.  I understand that it is strictly person by person, but how are you doing?  I don't want to jeopardize my clietele with bad decisions and I don't want to break down on the farms.  I also appreciate that I can't sit here all day everyday as I will go insane.  If you can give me your thoughts on what was expected of you and what you were able to do.  Thanks so much in advance.

lovehertons: My husband and I were going through some really tough times right as I was diagnosed with a legal situation in another state and my husband going to school during the day and working 2nd shift hours, usually 7 days/week. I also worked a fluctuating schedule through my chemo. I tried to pull him in for the most important appointments. He went to a chemo treatment, a couple of the first oncology appointments. He was there for surgery and through that evening. I pulled him in again this week to go to my planning appointment for radiology. I try to keep him connected to the situation but certainly not immersed in it. I try to let him know the seriousness of what the doctors report to me so that he would not be blindsided by a sudden turn.

This has worked well for us. I hope you find your own balance that works for both of you in this tough time.
