Mum, I don't get the plaid-over-the-water theme. I do notice it's not a personal pic. You take better pictures than that, I should have known it wasn't yours!!
-
Happy New Year to all my beachie friends!! I am heading out to the beach in a little while!

Buoys from tsunami found on Washington beaches. Some of the first debris to arrive.

Beachies, the very best New Year to each and all.
We leave tomorrow for a 7 to 8 week vagabond adventure. Tomorrow is Naples, FL and then on to the Bahamas for a mini-cruise as a happy, happy to each others. A couple of weeks in and around Ft. Lauderdale/Miami -- then a road trip to New Oreans and on to Baton Rouge. Then back to Ft. Lauderdale. After that we're camping out in Daytona area for a while. We've rented our FL home and are going on a wander.
Who know what sort of speed internet I'll have and how often.
Thinking all good thoughts for each and every one of you!!

Happy New Year all!
I realized today that it's been almost a year since I was last here, but it has been a very difficult year.
The day after my last post here my mother got very sick and I headed home to help care for her. Anyway, it turned out she had stage IV colon cancer and we got her on home hospice care immediately, but she died just six days after she was diagnosed. She had been on dialysis due to diabetes and her quality of life wasn't the best, so it wasn't as hard to let her go as I had feared. She was a wonderful, wonderful, woman and I was so grateful to have been with her at the end. So this past year has been full with selling the family home, working full time, and trying to self-manage my stubborn Lymphedema.
My highlight was as a beach camping trip to Carpinteria last summer with my brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, and my mom's sister. The beach is such a healing place so that is where I took my vacations, & in May and Oct. I went back to Kauai. As usual, when I returned, my blood work was very, very, good. I try to get my Medical Onc. to write me a prescription for Kauai, but she just laughs. Anyway it's always worth a try! Here are two photo videos I made from my May and October trips to Kauai last year and I hope you enjoy them. Take care!!!

mab: I'm usually a lurker on this thread, but have to jump in & say your Kauai pictures are gorgeous. Is that Hanalei Bay? I was there a couple of years ago for a wedding. LOVE the North Shore. If you don't mind sharing, where do you stay? Just saw The Decendants today & I went mainly for the scenery. Some of your shots are much better than the movie.
I was raised in No. California with holidays in Carmel (in the 50's - long before Clint). On my last west coast trip before BC my son & I hiked under the North span of the Golden Gate Bridge. Vacation before that was a week in Bodega Bay & the one before - 10 days on the in Mendacino coast. You can see where I try to spend my vacations. It's been three years since I've been back to HI so hopefully that's up in 2012, especially since I have relatives who live there again. Alas I live in Texas and the closest "ocean" is Galveston. It just doesn't compare to the Pacific & I still miss having it in driving range after almost 50 years.
Thanks so much to everyone for the gorgeous postings. It makes my day EVERYDAY to sign on and see your ocean & beach pictures. Happy New Year - or as I saw on one thread - "Happier New Year".
-
Minus Two,
Yep, it's Hanalei Bay. I hope you'll be able to go back soon.
Many of those photos were taken from Pali Ke Kua on the North Shore.
I love the views from there and the great little beach.
I love this topic, too - great group on here. -
It was ME that posted Happier New Year!! Someone PMd me with that and I LOVED it...

Barbara, I'm painting with pastels now and could duplicate your sunset in a heartbeat, but no one would believe it was real!!! It would look like those pictures painted on black velvet....
-
Wow, pink clouds on black velvet...YES!!
