Any BOSTON ladies who can recommend a good Oncologist??
I am not happy with my current Onc and am hoping there may be some ladies here in Boston that could recommend some names of good, personal oncs to me? I live in the Metro West area.
Thank you!!

I see Dr. Michael Hassett at Dana Farber in Boston. He and his fellow are very knowledgeable, thorough and have a great bedside manner. I live just outside of metrowest.
-
Thank you 3girls, I will look him up! I go to Dana Farber now and am not happy with the way things are going nor happy with the channels you need to go through just to speak to someone. Not sure if you have the same problem?
-
So far I haven't had a problem but just started seeing them mid October. It's such a big and busy place so I am sure u can get lost in the shuffle:(
-
I hear that a lot about Dana Farber... one of the reasons I am not there. I am at Beth Israel and LOVE it. The BI is all about the team of doctors. They talk with each other; they work together. The support staff are amazing. Full of compassion. And appointments start on TIME!
My oncologist is currently on a personal leave. I adore him. His replacement has worked out well enough, but we are still getting to know each other. Her name is Christina Herold. I have also seen Dr. Tung and liked her tremendously.
Feel free to PM if you want more specifics.

I see Dr Sara Tolaney at DFCI and she is always good about calling me back or having her nurse call me. I haven't had to call her a lot though.
-
susan_02143, YES its terrible, I cant call without going through so many people and then have to wait for a call back. My husband called for me a couple of times and I was told that she cant talk to him, its policy and that its wasting her time to call him back and then myself, she doesnt have time for it. So rude! I will PM you, thank you! I heard Beth Israel is really good!!
Kward70, thanks for the name, I will look into her as well. I think if Im going to change I might as well leave there entirely. Not sure yet.. anything for the right doctor.

I'm seeing Dr. Steven Isakoff at Mass General and have been happy with my care. Feel free to PM me.

B123, I saw Harold Burstein at DFCI: I found he responded almost immediately to email, but to schedule an appointment or change one was a horrible process: only his assistant could do it, and she would never return calls.
I know on their profile they write down preferred method of contact--is email listed?
I went for a second opinion and to get on a clinical trial of tamoxifen, and by the time the trial was open, I was no longer eligible. I have a local onc, so I'm not going up there for regular visits, but will be seeing him for an opinion on adjuvant therapy at the end of 5 years of tamoxifen.
I did stick with my local onc, as her nurses call me right back....
Good luck. I know another MA woman who wasn't happy Dr. Burstein, and she switched to Dr. Brunnel.
I did find getting the first appointment was a breeze, and then getting through to a person was nearly impossible.

B123 - I got my second opinion at Dana Faber and loved the onco there - Dr. Haskett but ended up going to Newton Wellesley and with Dr. Caroline Block. I like the more personal feel I got at NWH - at DF I felt like a number but at NWH I felt like their #1 patient and I love Dr. Block. All of my doctors at DF agreed with the Dr's at NWH and that was what gave me the confidence to go with NWH and I haven't looked back.

This may be late. I go to Faulkner/Dana Farber in Jamaica Plain. I have been very pleased, the back up of Dana Farber while at a community hospital. Also a great center for women's breast care at Belkin House. Two top notch surgeons. My oncologist is Dr Daniel Morganstern. I have been very pleased with him, the infusion nurses, his nurse practioner etc.
Hope this helps,
Nel

Like Lulu, I see Dr. Isakoff at Mass General. He's young, very personable, extremely data-driven, keeps up with studies. He was also incredibly responsive when we needed a letter in order to get a refund on an overseas flight (wrote one within an hour or two after our emailed request!) when we found out I had to do chemo and couldn't travel. He goes the extra mile & seems to really enjoy interacting with me, which I appreciate - I always feel like he's in my corner.
-
I also go to Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. I gad Dr. Leroy PArker. He was very good and also all the staff up there were wonderful.

B123,
Have you figured out the DF system yet to your satisfation? I went there to be in a clinical trial and love it.
My system has worked very well with all my doctors and at DF. I become best friends with my oncologist's nurse, scheduler, and PA. I use email whenever possible and have been extremely happy with the customer service at DF. Sometimes the nurse has forwarded my question or suggested I call or email my oncologist directly and he has gotten right back to me.
I am in the follow-up phase now going there every 4 months and often see the PA instead of my oncologist, but I know he is always available if something serious happens.
Hope you have come up with your own satisfactory communication system.

I live in Springfield
I went to MGH. LOVED my surgeon...Dr Gadd.
Any others in my area ?
Feel free to PM! -
I live in Acton and I also see Dr. Gadd at MGH, she's AMAZING!
-
I see Dr Gadd too and she is great. Now I am looking for an oncologist. Any suggestions? Dr. Gadd recommends Dr. Browne.
-
I see Dr Weissman out of Cambridge Hospital and like her a lot. I got a second opinion at DFCI and she was really collaborative when I decided to go with DFCI's recommendation ( TC vs AC->T, both doctors gave the reasons for their recommendation but said that either was a good option). Dr. W is up on the latest research and is very personable. Cambridge Hospital isn't for everyone but I've had a good experience there. She also practices out of Mt Auburn.
-
I second Dr. Weissman, I see her at Mt Auburn in Cambridge. Have had great experience with the whole BC team there.
