chest and neck splotchy/red??
I am given to flushing easily but have a very dramatic red blotching across my collarbone and up my neck. I don't know where or how to determine if lymph nodes in the collarbone area are swollen. After what I assumed was a stress rash on my shoulders and chest (not breasts) I developed a breast sore (looked like a bug bite but I rubbed it and the skin peeled off and left an open ugly sore) that didn't heal on a week of antibiotics and so my internist sent me to a breast specialist who assured me by doing an ultrasound that I do not have ibc (which I became alert to on the Internet). She suggested that I may have a staph infection and require additional antibiotics. This was after I explained that I was feeling poorly for awhile and wanted an explanation for nausea, cold sweats, and rashiness. I didn't hear back about antibiotics and had sort of put the worry on a back burner with out of state family home for the holiday. Ten days have passed since that appointment and both of my breasts feel full (I know the feeling from nursing 3 babies more than 25 yrs ago). I am having trouble distinguishing between what might be stretch marks or dimpled skin. I don't really think the pink areas of skin were as evident at my appointment. It seems that both breasts have lg pink patches on the outside. But these are not bumpy... more like a sunburn and I can see the tiny vein networks. I called my internist today and they said I need to follow up with the breast dr. again or that they could do a referral to a dermatologist. My RN sister said I should request a blood test ... I think to check out the staph possibility. The internists office said there was not a blood test that they would do. I am just baffled that the breast dr. (who is very highly regarded in this community) was so sure. I guess I'll see how soon I can find out what a dermatologist thinks... and see if anything else develops? There is a cancer center in the other hospital in my city... if I want a second opinion... how do I get insurance to pay for that? I am a very impatient personality and can usually deal with most anything except 'not knowing'. FYI I live in West Michigan and am 56. From all that I've read it's clear I need to be proactive. Just hoped that someone might have answers for some of this puzzle.

Hi there! I got you pm and sent you a reply. There is no way a doctor can rule out IBC with an US. They couldn't even find my tumor with a mammo or an ultra-sound. If you want a second opinion ask your internist to refer you to the cancer clinic & your insurance will pay for it if it is within your insurance group. I gave you info about my doctor in Tulsa. If you go to her your insurance may not pay as well since it would probably be out of network. You might also see about going to the IBC clinic at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Depending on your insurance they may pay for this. I hope you can get answers. Let me know how it goes. NJ

Norma ~ I called breast dr's office this afternoon and asked for another appointment to discuss new symptoms of pink, soreness and full feeling. I was surprised that the receptionist said they would see me this next Tuesday PM. Now I just need to find a sub for my kindergarten class of 23. It will be our first day back from holiday break:( Maybe I can get a sub for just the afternoon, so that I can see my little friends in the morning. The school district frowns on sick days beginning or ending vacation and I had my ultrasound appoinitment on the last Friday of school before the break. I suppose that should be the least of my worries. ~ Jody
