spine mri spot, is it metastasis?
i was diagnosed wwith breast cancer 4-2-2009. had recent alkaline phosphotase test that was normal. had total hysterectomy october 2010. was on tomoxifen and switched to femara after hsytorectomy. i was a stage lllc 11 out of 17 nodes positive . initial bone scans negative and mri october of last year was negative for mets but showed arthritic changes. had mri dec 8th because continued to have back pain but more so because had one bad episode dec 6th that kept me awake all nite. this most recent scan showed a spot ssuspicious for mets at different area of spine than the arthritis. bone biopsy this week and i am very frightened. has anyone had this situation and it not come back as metastatic..........fearful and waiting.

I didn't have a biopsy of a vertebra but have extensive spine mets. I had other scans & mets showed up in other bones. Did you have other scans that showed other areas of concern? We did my biopsy of the sacrum - lower spine but it spreads out into pelvic area. I was made very comfortable in the procedure - not fully under but able to converse and listen to things said. No pain.
Unfortunately for me, we pretty well knew I had mets from all the locations in the bones and my biopsy confirmed I had mets. They don't do these biopsies without lots of concern.
I wish you all the best and that the biopsy will not be mets but would be misleading you if I didn't also say there is reason for concern. If it is mets, you have many here to help you. Lets get the biopsy and go from there. Waiting and wondering is not easy - I was in your shoes a month ago. Do ask what kind of medication you will be given, I called to make sure I would get some drugs - they gave the ones similar to a to what is used for a colonoscopy.
A Big hug, Brenda
