Scared & unsure
Hi I am almost to my 2 year mark since dx of IDC grade 3 growing quickly, aggressive. tumor. Had lumpectomy, chemo & radiation in Jan 2010. My yearly mammo just came back a cat. 3. the radiologist said probably benign and to wait 6 months and do another mammo Well that is exactly what he said 2 years ago and I insisted on the biopsy then, good thing. My surgeon is with me on this and will do a biopsy on Jan 3rd, really hoping it is just scar tissue but have been having other things going on, lost of hearing in right ear, the audiologist says my ear is very healthy (ear drum, bones etc.) so he wants to do a MRI of my brain to see if anything is pressing on the nerves. I have been told that some types of chemo cause nerve damage & this could be what caused the hearing lost.
Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation, I am trying to be positive but it is making the Holiday times very stressful, thanks for listening to me it helps to just talk it out on here.

Oh yes, stay positive! The same sort of thing happened to me, I was 18 months from my first breast cancer. To make a long story short, ALL WAS FINE!!! No cancer. Breathe!!!!
You are being watched very carefully for cancer, and this is a good thing.

Brenda I have not had this situation but wanted to say I did hear that Taxotere can cause nerve damage. The nurse said that to me cause they were concerned about nerve damage cause I didnt get a portacath and they did infusion in my wrist.
I am also sorry you are having to worry about recurrence. I will be sending positive vibes your way for benign results!!!!!!! Your BS isnt waiting...will be thinking of you that day!! Hang in there!! We are all here for you!!

Yes I did get Taxotere infusion in my arm, will find out next Tue with the MRI, the doctor did say that insurance won't pay for hearing aids but if it was the chemo that did it they should pay for one, although they say it won't do any good for the right ear, but I also have a little loss in the left. I am so afraid of losing all my hearing along with cancer coming back, still trying to be positive,I do have a great support system here. Thanks for your input!

Hey Brenda,
Just wanted to say hello and that I'll be thinking of you for your upcoming biopsy. Good for you to insist on it! I haven't heard of chemo causing hearing loss, but then again I learn something new every day on this site. Thinking positive thoughts for you. Keep us posted.

Hi All, well had the MRI of my brain last Tue, got results Friday all clear! So still not sure what is causing the hearing loss, Chemo? One test down and one to go have the biopsy of breast on Tue morning so keeping fingers crossed they find nothing there too. Thank you all for your wonderful words of concern. Will let you know of results when I get them.

If you are on tamoxifen, I have read that it has a side effect of hearing loss; it has been the case with some of the other ladies, even though a rare one. If on an aromatase inhibitor, perhaps that is a side effect as well. Wishing you only the best for your biopsy on Tuesday, sending good thoughts.
