Suspicious finding on mammo & panicking
Hi ladies - I finished my treatment (lumpectomy, chemo, rads) in March. Had a mammo in June & everything looked fine. Went back this week for my 6 month mammo...this time it's NOT fine. They saw a suspicious area of calcifications right near where my tumor was. Told me it could be benign junk left over from radiation, or it could be DCIS. I need a stereotactic biopsy and they could not schedule it until Jan 6th. So now I am terrified and in waiting mode. Last year at this time I was finishing chemo, and so happy to have that behind me. And now I don't know what the future holds. Can a recurrence even happen so soon? I had triple negative BC which is very aggressive. So now I get to wait it out and worry through the holidays, when most of my close people who helped me through last time are away celebrating. Don't think I can go through this again. Has anyone had this happen to them so soon after treatment? Any words of wisdom would be helpful. Thanks for listening.

Awww Hope, I am saying a prayer for you.

Sorry that you have this hanging over your head and there is no way you can't worry and be scared. I do know that we have calcifications at the surgical area - think it is just a reactionary thing. I have some and when I saw them I got scared but they kept taking pictures and finally thought it was ok. It is always best to find out; you have done everything that you could have done and we'll cross our fingers, toes, whatever and make wishes and say prayers that this is nothing serious.
Breast cancer has stolen so much but while I know you will worry, try not let it rob you of enjoying the holidays. Hugs

Barbara and Naniam - Thank you so much for reponding, and for your good wishes. Nan - my BS also told me that calcs at the surgical area are fairly common. But you are so right, it's hard not to worry. Hard to have this hanging over my head thru the holidays but I will do my best to enjoy this time. Thank again!

Waiting is the hardest thing, trying to stay positive even though doubt creeps in...totally understand. Hopefully what they are seeing is leftover noise from the radiation, which sounds entirely possible. Best wishes to you, hope it is nothing. Good luck with the biopsy on the 6th, we'll be pulling for you!

Thinking of you this weekend, Hope, and hoping you can have some non-cancer thoughts over the holidays. Also praying for good test results for you in January!

Nancy and Kathy - thanks so much for your good thoughts and encouragement. Feeling OK for the most part right now...except for those moments when fear creeps in. I'm sure there will be more of those moments to come before this is over, but for now I'm doing all right. Doc gave me some Ativan for anxiety and it's helping. Thanks again and I'll keep you posted.

Hope-
right here sending good thoughts your way and yes, ativan, along with us, is a good friend to have:)

Hope - keep taking the ativan. The waiting truly sucks!
I just got back from a screening mammo and found out that last year they saw a "highly suspicious lesion" but dang nobody told me about it. They had told me I was clear. I am playing the waiting game with you. Because today was a screening mammo - I have to wait 3 days to see if they want to do an ultrasound, etc.

Hi annetteK and jancie - thank you both for taking the time to write. Yes, waiting really sucks! And yes, ativan is a BC girl's best friend sometimes. Another friend of mine with BC call it "vitamin A"....lol. Jancie, sorry you've been waiting too. Hope you got some good news by now?
