Sleep Issues~Anyone tried a buckwheat pillow?
I find 10 months post initital BMX that I still have trouble sleeping. It's hard to lay totally flat or find a comfy "propped" position at night. Has anyone tried a buckwheat pillow? I'd love some thoughts on this as I consider purchasing one. Also what size did u have? Looks like they go from super small to king. Thanks!

I had a buckwheat pillow once (prior to my mastectomy). I liked it. I was traveling with my job and took it with me and left it in a hotel. But, while I had it I liked it. you can place it is a cool or warm area and it will hold the temperature for awhile.
I have had a mastectomy on my left side and I am small breasted so when I lay on my stomach there is not that much difference. Sometimes the left area is a little uncomfortable (I would not call it pain). I recently purchased a natural latex pillow and I really like it. The problem though is since it is 'natural' latex, the firmness varies. So, be particular (I dont care if you have to try 20 pillows) to the firmness that works for you. I actually purchased one and had to wait for another shipment to find the level of firmness that I wanted. Good luck and sweet dreams....

Another thought: I listen to a Relaxation and Wellness CD by Belleruth Naperstak...It is a little monotone, but it puts me to sleep. I rarely last through the whole thing.......You can probably get it at Amazon fairly cheap. She also has one on Fighting Cancer which is very encouraging.

Shannon, I would ask what exactly is preventing you from laying like that and did you have reconstruction?
If it is pain or uncomfortableness, could you have scar tissue adhesions? I really don't know anything about reconstruction issues, but I have had my fair share of pmps and scar tissue adhesion pain and stiffness. If you have pain related to the mastectomy and didn't have reconstruction, I would call the surgeon who did your surgery and explain your situation. I am not sure if you had reconstruction though.

Thank you all for replying. Sometimes I feel like a party of one when I post and no one replies!!!:)(smile) I had BMX and reconstruction. I have silicone gel implants. I can't really pinpoint why it's uncomfortable to lay flat. I'm 5"9 and 145-150lb and was small chested pre-cancer. BUT I was told by my plastic surgeon that I have a wide sternum so my foobs are...shall I saw I'll only ever have cleavage with a good bra!!! There's about a 1.5" runway b/tmy foobs. My old boobs were the same way so they look fine(I'm totally happy with the surgery results), but I find my new "C" cup foobs mke it hard to lie on my side for any length of time. Propping with pillows help. I just know that sleeping is elusive some nights. I have many pillows, a wedge I take off and on my bed. My husband says I'm building my nest with all my pillows. I hope it's just an adjustment period to the foobs. My year surgery anniversary is 2/25/2012. I can say I feel better than I did 5 months ago so I hope it continues. Adhesions could be an issue and I need to be more diligent about massaging especially the areas on one side where the tubes were. That area healed funky but has improved with the massaging. Just wondered if anyone had tried one of those pillows and liked it! I may also order the Relaxation and Wellness CD.
