Glad to hear everthing worked out!!
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!!
You and Chabba are my nominees for 'Christmas Angels' this year!! People who go above and beyond to help others!! I am just in awe of you both!! Wishing you both peace, joy and much love today and always! -
Sharon1942,
Didn't go through chemo but have heard that it can just wreck your sense of taste.... I will say that, from your post, I don't think it's wrecked your sense of humor....
Hope that things improve soon.... welcome! -
((((Sharon1942))))) Welcome!
We have been to the both ends of Bermuda, today was to the dockyards where we visited the Commissioners House which is now a museum but had fantastic views, I won't be able to post those pics until I get home. My camera doen't work anymore, it does not like sandy salty water. LOL

I've been cooking up a storm today to take food to my SIL who's suffering from rumatoid athritis & osteo arthritis & in lots of pain - Spinach & Artichoke casserole, broccoli scallop, molded raspberry salad, pie. Cheated & made a White Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake from a mix. Tomorrow I'll do a pork roast & make the hour+ drive to her house. Since I'm wide awake, I'm on my 2nd load of wash. My son was in Houston to nurse me for both surgeries this year so another trip at Christmas is out. Oh well, Santa can find anyone & all I want is to get back to my pre-bc & BMX self. Happy Hanukkah & Merry Christmas to all of you. Thanks for your recipes, advice and friendship. Hope 2012 will be a banner year for everyone. Jan

Merry Christmas everyone! God bless us all and may 2012 be good for each of us. It is nice to have some new friends here. Welcome!
LOL on the post Debbie. I would not have been able to type at all.
Have to tell you a hilarious story. My cousin that is in the hospital is a wonderful person. She just turned 65 and has a big family, four sons and a daughter. They are all married with children, she has 17 grandchildren. She got out of the hospital today! Any way, her DH is really terrific. I used to want to marry someone like him. And he is still so in love with her. He'd do anything for her. He really tries. But he is a man, enough said. While she was in the hospital (she was there for ten days), he wanted to be helpful, so he wrapped all the presents. He didn't put any names on any of the packages! LOL. My cousin was fit to be tied. I am still laughing about it.
Had my family over tonight. Everything went great. Tomorrow over to my sister's. Merry Christmas! -
Seaside- That was so sweet of you to say what you said about me and Chabba, I think she gets the Christmas Angel award though, seem she does things all year long.
Carol- Your turkey thighs sounded good, i copy/pasted it will make it sometime/
Deb- Loved seeing your pictures on FB looks like you are having awonderful time, have you seen the pink sand yet? What a great place to spend the holidays
Minustwo- White choc cheese cake with amerritto sounds so yummy!
Kay- Well as you can see i couldnt type at all LOL! Oh that is too funny about not putting names on the packages,LOL!

what Carolehalst said so eloquently
"Like others I have really enjoyed this group of women with our common interest in food and supportiveness for those coping with treatment. I wish us all a joyful Christmas day"
Have a wonderful Christmas all - tonite:
my family is eating at my brother's tonite and my difficult sister is cooking.. bless her difficult heart.. she tries but is bipolar or something. Usually she leaves all family gatherings in a storm of shouting obscenities.. she is angry at us.. Hope all goes well tonite.
on the menu:
Chips and salsa appetizer
Spiral cut honey ham
cheesy potatoes
green bean casserole
Hawaiin sweet rolls
Pecan pie, chocolate cream pie, cherry pie, Oreo pudding dessert
she is a creamy gal apparently.. Looking forward to the hawaiian dinner rolls*. I have never had them. I think i am taking a raw vegetable platter or maybe a huge bowl of peeled babybell tangerines.. the little cuties.
....so I'll have something noncreamy to eat. She's going to yell at me I just know anyway, I might as well eat a little healthily while she is yelling.. -
Joyce- enjoy your family this evening!
Apple- Your too funny! Peaceful and harmonous thoughts out to your sister!
Heading out to the community center- should be a great day! Merry Christmas

Just an update with my cream of chicken soup dilemna.. (canned soup has soy protein and soy protein isolate) I use it in my turkey pot pies - my daughter found me a recipe for my own mix and it is going to be tried soon
...
Cream of Whatever Mix
Use instead of condensed canned cream soups in recipes. Just add the ingredient that forms the basis of the soup. Chop mushrooms, saute in a bit of olive oil and add for cream of mushroom soup. Add chicken for cream of chicken soup. You get the idea!Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup instant reduced sodium chicken or beef bouillon granules
- 1/2 tsp. dried thyme leaves
- 1/2 tsp. dried basil leaves
- 1/4 tsp. white pepper
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients and mix well with wire whisk until blended. Store mix in an airtight container. To prepare as a substitute for one can of condensed cream soup in recipes, stir together 1/3 cup dry mix and 1-1/4 cup water in a saucepan. Cook and stir until thickened. Mix a total of nine cans condensed soup substitute.

Tonight DD is cooking a prime rib and turkey roast!!! It is the best meal I have every year.... My son and his wife are coming over to my DD/SIL's place Been playing with the 2 grandsons all morning to keep them out of Daughter's way while she was cleaning... We will spend one more night the travel home tomorrow (3.5 hours home).
-
We just finished cleaning up from a delish Turkey dinner that Nick & Rebekah cooked up, we are resting to make room for some Christmas Pudding, tomorrow Nick is going to make Bubble & Squeak. Another UK tradition.
-
Everything went well at the center today. Had plenty of food and over 125 people not counting volunteers who of course ate too. Santa was there and handed out gifts to everyone. That part is always lots of fun.
-
Everything went well at the comm center here too, we served almost 600 people but still had lots of food leftover, the church was suppose to come in a van and pick up the rest but a lady showed up in a prius and only took a small amout we were there till about 5 calling to see if anyone wanted all the leftover, turkey, ham, pot, greenbeans, gravy, rolls, stuffing, cranberry sauce and tons of desserts but we couldnt find anyone so had to throw a lot of food out, such a shame. By the time we got home i wasnt hungry but cooked anyway- Im with you JOYCE, i think i will stay in my pj's all day tomorrow too.
Deb- What is a squeek and bubble?
chabba- Hope you got some rest this eve after a long hard day
GMA- Thanks for the revised soup recipe.

Good morning everyone! I am enjoying my post-Christmas peace and quiet! The kiddies were up at 4:53 am yesterday and everyone else got up at 6. I was hoping their parents would send them back to bed, but parents sleep through everything...lol! So I got up and went downstairs and kept them quiet...my little contribution to everyone else's sleep! Then at 6 it all got started! At one point there was so much paper strewn about that we were worried about losing things. So we had to slow things down and police the area before letting them get started again. My DH bought me at least 3 of everything on my list...not sure what that was all about...lol. I may have to do a little exchanging as I probably don't need 3 of the same skinny jeans! And I got enough fragrance to last for probably 3 years!!! I do use it every day, but still... Everyone seemed to be very generous this year, perhaps because of everything we've all been through. Anyways, it was festive and we had a fabulous day. I was in bed and asleep at about 10:10 last night!!! It could have been earlier but I didn't want to wake up too early this morning so I forced myself to watch half the football game.
I am going to make DH's favorite breakfast this morning - he's been lobbying for baked apple pancake and he'll get his wish. And Burger Smokehouse bacon.
We have no plans for today although we might go see a movie later. I could stay in my PJs all day and that would be just fine!
-
i wish i had a wife like you LuvRving..
My dinner last nite was quite fun but tasted absolutely horrid.. omgosh.. i refused in the end to bring anything healthy.. my kids were kind of mad at me.. but the company was awesome.
-
i didn't get even one wrapped gift (i guess I've taught my children well.. that gifts are not important).. we try to do neat things for the needy. altho we gave our kids pretty cool things like garbanzo beans, poptarts, shampoo and money.
Sooo, I actually did get a gift, which is that i get to treat my family to dinner at my old chef/bestfriend's restaurant. (i'm actually thrilled with this idea/gift. I've been dying to go., but for our budget, it is really expensive. We usually on patronize chinese buffets).
- here is page 2 of the dinner menu.

.
I am not a super big meat lover but might want to try ostrich or elk. There are unique and traditional appetizers on page 1 as well.
in this second link is a pic of Dave my friend (on the right, twice).http://www.avaloncafeweston.com
He was a few inches taller than me and started cooking at age 14 and full cheffing at 17. He never went to college but is a super smart guy. I used to amaze him with all I knew.. 'working with you is like going to college for free'. We were like twins, working in perfect harmony for 7 years 40 to 70 hours a week and ran several restaurants in tandem.... perfectly friendly with no emotional entanglements. i miss him. so very much... such a unique friendship. I think I'll invite him and his little family out for dinner. I visited with him (after 20 years or so) and we started talking like we had never stopped.
-
LOL, Apple!!! Enjoy the Avalon Cafe, it's a lovely restaurant!

Merry Christmas everyone
My daughter is the worst cook! Really. We had Christmas breakfast at her and her BF's and I brought tomatoes, cheese, and avacados to put in the scrambled eggs. I saw her in there stirring them for 1/2 hour then she said. "Why is there so much juice in here?!" Her BF went in and the eggs looked like grey couscous eggs. He told just to "drain some ot the water?!?" She put salsa in there too. We ate them all, ummmm these are GREAT Lizzy!
For dinner we pigged out on pasta with clams, some don't eat even seafood so veggie pasta for them!
Unitarian service was beautiful

A little better today.........did not realize how much this cancer crap would tire me out from doing the same thing for 54 years a xmas................even the 2007 heart attack did nothing to me, and 2 months after having it, I did a huge xmas eve thing, like I always have..............this year, it beat the shit out of me.............oh well it was fun, but glad its over till *(I hope) next year.............
Went to my daughters for a fantastic Italian dinner, yesterday, and will return today since her MIL is coming, and her and I have things in common............BC..........she however is a 23 year survivor........first bout in 1988........mastectomy, 13 years later, it came back on the other side............removed that puppy too...........and has been great since...........actually better then me................her Arimidex is not kicking her ass, as hard as my Femara is.me............. although she attributes any aches and pains to "old age", but I know ;its the Arimidex, but as long as she thinks its her age (75)...............I won't tell her different..................its comical she says.....I have trouble walking in the morning or, my fingers really hurt at times..........or, "yea I get all the aches and pains too", guess its old age...............well I think she's wrong. She says she never reads the "insert" for SE's in the packages or the one the Pharmacist gives you with your script.................so I doubt she would know a SE, if it walked up and introduced itself...........................
Sounds like everyone is tired, but had a great holiday................another New Year coming ladies.............here's to all of us, and the good health we pray for each night...........hugs.

-
It sounds like everyone had a pretty good Christmas! Joyce your day today sounds like heaven! Everything here went well. Lot's of cooking but everyone enjoyed themselves. We had Christmas morning with my brother and his new girlfriend here, I texted him when the boys woke up and they headed right over. (he only loves about 3 miles from me) We did presents and breakfast, pan cakes, Gorton, banana bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, home fried potatoes, English muffins.... yum! They were off my 10 to go to her families house and we received my DH's family for 12 and had lots of appetizers and just chatted and played with the boys all day. I was a cooking machine, putting things together and pooping them in the oven. Everyone left by 6, the boys were in bed asleep by 7 and DH and I crashed for 9. Today we put the house back together and just hung around playing with new toys and watching cartoons.
I believe I am ready for winter to set in and the quiet it will bring. Tonight Dh made us fried egg sandwiches with left over bacon and cheese for dinner after we got the boys down, they were great.
-
lol- I didn't poop them in the oven I popped them- I SWEAR!!
-
Laurie- LOL! when i read that i thought, she must really be tired haha. Glad you had a great day and i love all the pics you posted on fb your kids are just to darn cute! So are you
-
Apple, you are very funny. I enjoy your humorous posts.
Michelle, I'm glad you had a wonderful Christmas. You've been through a lot and have a great attititude.
I used to love Christmas but for a number of years I'm glad when it's over. When I walk or drive through the neighborhood after Christmas, I notice the enormous amount of garbage, all that packaging from China. I do enjoy the Christmas parties. The women's golf group. The bridge club. The next-door neighbor's open house on Christmas eve. It's good, too, to get together with my siblings and mother and extended family for dinner on Christmas day. As for presents, I would rather buy for myself whatever I want or need that I can afford.
Tonight's dinner was a WW version of Shepherd's Pie made with ground turkey breast. It was very tasty DH and I had wine instead of a cocktail. We're both trying to drop some lbs.
I'm waiting for Laurie to check in and report on her Christmas with her dh and little boys.
-
why won't anything post?
-
it won't let me post a picture?
-
Debbie Thank you!!!
-
Sounds like everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Can't wait to hear how your dinner out was Apple.
Had a nice Christmas too. I am glad it's over though. Looking forward to getting the tree down and the house back in order. Also to getting back to more normal eating. I baked and ate way too much. I am bringing all the cookies that have managed to evade me into work tomorrow. Way too much temptation around. We had whole wheat spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread and a salad for dinner tonight. Everyone enjoyed it. -
Carol- Where you are not on facebook- the boys favorite presents were a drum set and a guitar and microphone. They acted like they were rock stars and put on a show for us off and on all day. Super cute. If I could get bco to let me post pics I could show you!! The boys had a blast and loved that we had lots of desserts. My brother made a chhocolate cake with buttercream frosting drizzled with chocolate ganash. It is heaven. I am not a big dessert person but I had a piece last night before I went to bed and may do it again tonight
