One year my friend Kathy's otterhound (think that was the breed)  ate a whole pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving......we were looking around going Where's the pie?  When I was in highschool we had a poodle...Charmin....she was a mini-toy.   We bred her once and had four puppies and my mother cried every time someone came to take one of them to their new home.

Marybe, you reminded me of a story from when I was in High school.  We had a dog that ran away, checked with animal shelter, police, set up flyers called animal control, she was nowhere to be found, I cried and cried.  My mother decided no more pets sonce it affected me so deeply.  A few months went by and my girlfriend aand I hatched up a plot that she would give me a dog for my birthday.  Cheri and I went to visit the liter, there was a tricolor little beagle mostly dark brown and black, I picked him.  My dad was a fireman and drove huge Mack trucks, so he would be called Mac.  Cheri took him home and the next day came over to "give me my birthday present", taking Mac out of her coat pocket, my mom couldn't say no to a present!  We had Mac for 16 years, once drove an intruder away who was coming in our back door.  He had the courage of a fighter and a heart full of love.  He never left my dad's side during his chemo treatment, where dad was, there was Mac.

One basset hound owner related that his dog was 10 years old and could hardly get around but did manage to climb her way to the top of the refrigerator to eat a cake and then sat there crying for someone to get her down!

Also, our poodle climbed onto the table and ate a stick of butter!

CLC ... deer poop - yuck!  After they eat it they want to come lick you!  Never fails.

My brother brought his doberdane to visit.  We had a round table large inough to seat six people and I had left the butter dish in the middle of it.  Without lifting a foot off the floor she stretched out her neck and stole the whole stick of butter.

My Sawyer favored kitty poop, could always tell by the flecks of litter around his nose, YUCK.  Sure did get me to keep a super clean litter box!!

What is it with dogs and cat poop?  I no longer have to worry about that since I lost George.  My original silky, Sydney, used to eat his own feces....I got something from the vet to sprinkle in his food which evidently gave it a flavor he did not want to eat after excreting it so he finally quit doing it.  Gross! I guess this is more common than you think since they actually make things to break them of those habits.    Hope has been having a real good time chewing up plastic fruit today....she has been getting in the box with the Xmas decorations and dragging things out....also has been having fun with some socks she got out of the laundry pile.

Shortly after my marriage ended 16 years ago, I thought a dog was needed for my 2 young daughters and myself. Living in a small house, we decided on a little dog. However, we fell in love with a 5 mos old 50 lb gentle giant, Bailey, who grew to 130 lbs., and who I credit with healing our family.

Bailey is gone almost 4 years now. His "cousin" Ellie is with me now, a much smaller yellow lab and she is such a comfort.

Watches me and follows me all the time since all this started. She's a great foot warmer too. Thankfully she's easily amused since I can't walk her, she pulls and these darn TEs are a problem, and she gets carsick.

I only wish I could sleep so soundly!

secretgaden, don"t you envy them, they can lay down and boom they're sleeping.  Nothing like a big old lab to heal a family, Sawyer was a big ole chocolate lab, many a time I cried on him, he would be so concerned and just lick my tears away.  Had finally discovered a way to keep him out of the litter, a baby gate!

We use covered liter boxes, two because we have two cats. We turn them toward the wall and the dogs leave them alone then. Nothing worse than the smell of cat poop on your dogs breath!

We have four baby gates in the house to keep Stewie out of trouble. Latest one is at the bottom of the stairs to the second floor. He has now gotten on enough weight that he can't just go through the rungs of the railing and go on up.

We went to the vets today for his pre neuter blood work. He weighs 40+ pounds now.  He is 7 and 1/2 months old. I worry a little that this may be too early but he is getting more dominant and I don't want to lose him in the woods looking for a female. The vet said it is fine. Thursday is the day.

my little old lady coco, who's gone for years now, once got on the table from a chair, and ate a 5 lb roast..raw!!!when we found her, we rushed her to the vet, where she was "touch and go " for a few days. the vet said no dog can eat their own weight in raw meat.. then, i showed him the wrapper the roast was in!!he couldn't believe it, and i in turn, couldn't believe his bill!!!she lived for 10 more years, and i paid it off over almost that long...hahahaha3jays

Mister Oliver got 3 new toys for Christmas!  My aunt found one very similar to the one he had for years.  He would throw it up in the air and catch it - so cute.  It was a mouse in a Christmas stocking.  He played with it until there was nothing left!

My sister keeps a basket full of dog toys on the floor.  Her dogs have learned to take them out, place them all over the house but have yet learned to put them back!

Merry Christmas to all my sisters and their fur babies.

Well I've been to resue ranch 4 times and have fallen in love with sooo many dogs !  But one seems to have really taken to me a I her !  My home and yard have been inspected by rescue family and passed inspection.  So this week I will bring Faith home for a "visit".  I've been busy getting dog toys and chews, I feel totally good with this dog, but a friend is convinced she has a dog for me so I will go up and check her out, but really feel Faith is th dog for me.  After I have Faith a few weeks I may bring Shelby home to foster till we find a forever home for her and give Jane some room for other rescue animals.  I want my own dog, but I would also like to foster dogs till they find good homes for them.  There are soooo many homeless animals it just breaks my heart, I do want to help......................kiley

Dear Kiley, what a wonderful gift to you and to Faith to have found each other during this Christmas season.  I am a firm believer in rescue animals, you know in a moment which one belongs to you. Between my daughter and I we have 6 rescues, I don't dare go to the shelter as I know I would bring home a dog, if I had a fenced yard, I'd be there now.  Merry Christmas Kiley, both to you and to Faith, also to the rescue dog you will foster.

What beautiful cats you ladies have acquired....they are all so furry and look very snuggly.  I got a German Shep from Hurricane Katrina and feel sorry for the people that lost him..He was already trained and does not wake me up in the morn to go outside like some folks say their dogs do that. He sleeps until I get up..cant believe it.  He is the best dog I ever had.  He is very sweet and does not bark at the mailman even but the mailman is deathly afraid of the dog. LOL.....got the dog for protection.  I live close to downtown and a lot of homeless come south for the winter..and they are not all bad people but cant be too careful these days. Know coming home to something furry and warm and loving will be good medicine after my bmx.  Fiance has promised to help me feed and clean the kennel for the doggy. I did see one photo on here of a kind of shizhu type dog and it was so cute, could have kissed that dog all day.

Thanks all, he is extremely sweet and very devoted. He is a Greek street mutt. My daughter had taken him home to give him a drink. Then she put him on the street again, but he disagreed, and sat on his behind, using his paw to knock on the front door of the building for an hour. He has stayed since.
