I am also 52 and having the same problems. I cannot have sex.....way too painful. Do the replens work? I have a dr. app. after Xmas to see if there is anythink I can do about it. But I am curious about the replens as no need for a dr. prescription.

I have only tried the 3 samples the doc gave me, but it helps for a bit, maybe if I use it on a regular basis.  I feel so alone in this and my doc says it can sometimes be painful, but it really burns and is very irritated.  I can't believe this is normal and I cant wait to get off this cancer pill to see if it goes away then!  But then again I am afraid to be off the pill, silly huh?

Do a search on the BCO site for Scream Cream.  It is a vasodilator used to lubricate. Everyone that has tried it has had great success.  It can only be made by a compounding pharmacy though and may not be covered by your insurance company.

I can tell you that I am a scream cream user and it works better than anything else that I've tried.  I really don't feel any pain during sex any more.  It was put together in a compounding pharmacy for about $50.  No insurance coverage, but my flexible spending account did reimburse me.  I got the prescription from my primary MD, and the formula is the one you can find here at BCO on the scream cream thread.

Some people do use Lidocaine with it.  So far I haven't needed both but I have it in case I need it.

I have been looking for help with this for YEARS. The answer is always, that is just the way it is. My husband tries to be understanding but he gets frustrated. I go to the gym take the best care of myself and I can't have sex. I never heard of scream cream. Should I ask my OBGYN or PC.

    Help Thanks Janet

Count me in. 52 seems to the key # here. My GYNO suggested I ask my Onc about a topical hormone cream but I'm very ER+ and I find I obsess about BC returning all the time anyway so I don't feel comfortable using the Hormone cream. I also find besides intercourse being painful I end up with a UTI. I asked My GYNO about SC but he seemed totally uninterested. Sort of the same way I am about sex! I see my Onc next month and see what his input is on SC. Thanks for posting

I'll be 51 in March and it;'s been three years painful sex and when I try the next day I get UTI. I tried the hormone cream and stoped. Too scared. I have always been so positive but sometimes I get so PISSED. No boobs, no sex, menopause, hot flashes depression from tamoxifen for five years, and osteoporosis.

     Ok I feel better now...LOL

I'm 52 also... Read through some threads recently and saw my gyn 1/7 & got a RX for scream cream as per the advice I've read. Just picked it up the other day. Not quite ready to give it a try as I had my exchange on the 17th. I did speak with gyn about dryness , I was using replens with some help, but not enough. She suggested olive oil. In the shower every day, massage your lady parts with olive oil. Well, I have been doing that and things feel much smoother & no pain to the touch. Just thought I'd pass that along. Can't wait to try the SC!

I just posted this:  hyaluronic acid has been studied as a safe alternative for vaginal atrophy.  Talk to your naturopath!

First of all ,  thanks to all you ladies who have posted and are talking about this.  I too,  am 50 , and my hubby just thinks I'm being a whiner, or using this as an excuse to get out of having sex... I think not!  I'm going to try the olive oil, and ask my PCP about scream cream on my wellness exam next month.  I'll report back and let you know how this helps!... Thanks again!!Sealed

I have read that hyaluronic acid is not safe for cancer patients, especially those with bc. It has been linked to tumor/cancer progression.

Yes--coconut oil has saved me!  It's fairly cheap, all natural and lasts a long time.

Please tell me more about coconut oil. I've started using Replens and it helps a little but I'm still too dry and I've started to hurt. Do you use the coconut oil every day? Use it as a lubricant too?

To mammabee, I use it nearly everyday. I froze some suppositories. Actually didn't freeze them but refrigerated them.

Boy I sure am glad I found this thread.  Will check into Scream Cream (what a great name!).  My ever-suffering husband will be glad if we can get this fixed, I'm sure!  As will I.  Sex life is nill at the moment!

I'm not having pain issues, although the dryness is less than pleasurable. I struggle with interest...my hubby and I had a very nice sex life prior to the BC treatments. Now...not so much. I feel like the treatments, menopause and arimidex have basically eliminated my sex drive. No pressure from my husband, but I still feel guilty. Has anyone found a way to increase their desire?

ORGANIC COCOA BUTTER.  Even better than coconut oil ;-)))  It's very solid, in a plastic jar, instructions, after you remove the inner lid AND THE WAX LAYER, suggests putting in microwave to melt.  That's what I do when I use it as a body moisturizer, BUT, to make a Vaginal Suppository, I use a very CLEAN little knife, to chip off a small piece, and use it as a vaginal suppository before I go to sleep.

Yes, it can be a bit messy, wear your old cotton underpants, maybe with a panty liner - BUT IT IS SO SOOTHING.  And if it's bad for E+ women, I don't wanna' know.  Seriously.  I prefer DeNile.  HATED replens, the beads, all that stuff.

Organic Cocoa Butter.  I get it at the health food store, in a jar.  Yes, smells like chocolate.  Good luck.

BTW: I used to make suppositories by putting small amount of coconut oil, in plastic wrap, in refrigerator - this is BETTER.  Learned about it on the "mojo" thread.

I've been using the coco butter for a few weeks now, and I will say I am so much more comfortable. I would love to ask for the scream cream, but haven't gotten the nerve up yet, just to embarrassed.

You will probably need to take the compounding recipe for scream cream with you to your doctor's  appointment because most have never heard of it.  Here is the link for it:  http://www.ijpc.com/_pdf/Scream_Cream.pdf

It does work well.  I burns me for about 5 minutes, but it makes for a very natural lubrication.

For years, my gyn. has recommended using Albolen Cream.  It is an old product that has been around for years.   It is sold in a big tub.  It is a facial moisturizer but he says it is safe to use as a lubricant prior to sex.  You can usually find it a Walgreens or CVS.

And as far as using vaginal hormones....my onc. does not want me using creams, but is fine Vag-e-fem.  It is inserted vaginally twice a week.  It is a little small white tablet and it slowly dissolves.   Very little, if any, is absorbed into the blood stream.  So far, it is keeping my tissues pretty lubricated and I have not had any UTIs like I used to.  It requires a prescription.  I would be in really bad shape with out this stuff!

Yes, vag-e-fem is estrogen, but very, very little is absorbed after the first couple of weeks.  It stays in the local vaginal tissues.  My ONC is the one giving this to me. I am 83 % estrogen positive.

Thank you all so much for the tips re: coconut oil & cocoa butter. I just had my last surgical drain out yesterday and I'm ready to get back in the saddle...and I KNOW my DH is more than ready. Regarding cocoa butter and estrogen, I just googled a study where they used cocoa butter suppositories as the control in a study of estrogen suppositories so they must not have any affect on estrogen. I'm 100% er+ so I'm a little paranoid about that.

Thank goodness, mamabee! I was freaked out about the possible estrogenic effects oc coconut oil or cocoa butter.

Another wonderful Yell side effect of vaginal dryness is bleeding.

I was wondering why I was spotting years after a complete hysterectomy, and my OB-GYN told me that lack of estrogen in the tissues make them so fragile - like tissue paper - that just walking can cause the tissue to tear in some women and make them bleed. Surprised

It's important to stay lubricated even if you're NOT having sex!!!

Blessings - me too.  I feel so old at 46 that I make myself spot just by doing nothing.  Using the olive oil every morning has been helpful for me.  I had never heard of anyone doing that before, just thought of it myself because Replens was so nasty.  Since I thought I was some kind of pioneer with it, I had to overome my initial fear of going rancid!
