NatsFan - Happy Birthday to us!

Happy Birthday to yous
!
Up a pounds....what a surprise since I had Christmas get-togethers at both the beginning and end of the day on Tuesday!
I believe the politically correct term for being too short for one's weight is 'vertically challenged'
-
145 this morning, but that could be because I don't think I've pooped since dinosaurs roamed the earth. Painkillers are wonderful, aren't they?
Next week will either be better, or I will explode. Either way - better!
Stopped up purrs,
Jenn
-
Omaz and NatsFan, may I join you in the congratulations on your birthdays. You guys are almost biblical.
-
Thanks! I'll be 53. Haven't lost any weight this week. Have been to too many parties.
-
Jenn, try Colace and/or prunes. I have the same problem with painkillers...I, for sure, will never be a narcotics addict!!!!
-
What is Colace? I can't do prunes, just can't.
Stopped up Purrs,
Jenn
-
It's a laxative recommended to me by a nurse. Found in the laxative aisle at any store. Dried prunes (or as they're now called 'dried plums') aren't that bad tasting.
-
Am actually up 2.5 lbs..... better than what it was on Tuesday morning, when I thought it was wednesday (5.5!!!). I knew the ham that we ate on Sunday and the leftovers Monday was extremely salty, and the scale reflected that (at least I hope it was the salt!!)
Hoping everyone enjoys their Holiday Season...... I am hoping that with weighing in on Wednesdays, that I MIGHT be able to keep my eating under control (or at least try to avoid an all out food frenzy!)
Merry Christmas!
-
Ducky you crack me up !
I think everyone is doing so well considering it's the eating season !
I refuse to even get on the scale. No exercise pleanty of eating and stress. Mom went into the hospital with pneumonia two days ago. Life is hectic. I am contemplating quitting my normal job and working for them as their caregiver. I need to work this all through by Jan 2nd. Yeesh ! If I do quit I would at least have time to exercise which would be nice. Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas !
-
Dear Ducky, you made my day with your post. I haven't laughed so hard in awhile.
Thank you
ps, had a similar experience at WW years ago. Love it! I'm up .3 today -- ugh
-
Desny...............Gotta love those receptionist who are perky Lifetime 80 lbs losers...........................again I say 4 ounces.......................................still can't get over her excitement over 4 ounces.................
-
JFV, hope your mom is doing OK.
Ducky...
-
Oh man, Ducky... thanks. That was awesome! My scale doesn't do ounces; I can't decide if that's a blessing or a curse.
I'm up a pound, meaning I regained that pound I'd lost last week. Let's see, what coulda made me gain a pound this week? -- Three birthdays in my household last week, a PET scan yesterday (yeah, just a little stress there), cooking for all my houseguests, Christmas tamales with chili... hmm, I wonder...
Tomorrow my mom and my daughters and I are going to make the Dark Fruit Cake from the old Fanny Farmer cookbook, which someone posted here on the boards a while back. It has prunes, dried apricots, dried figs, golden raisins, walnuts, brandy...
Reckon THAT will make us, umm... go? I'm just sayin'.

I am wondering how I am going to push food around on my plate christmas eve at a friend's house. The menu has 2 tons of salt in the lasagna. I always cleaned my plate my whole life. How can I smell it, something I love, not eat it, push it around the plate so the host is not offended. If it were just calories, I would not think twice and just dig in, but the salt thing hurts when the legs swell. If I push the food around, they would probably think, oh, that's the cancer, decreased appetite. Truth is I will be tortured with the smell of salty food I love and shouldn't, shouldn't eat. Can I take just a taste and stop and then just push it around? It's one thing to prepare low salt meals at home, and wish you could pour on this or that, it is totally another to pass up on a no-no dish at the holidays, to smell and look at something you should not have. It's hard not to think, it's the holidays, I deserve a respite, a treat. Just have to remember how bad those legs can hurt and how the salt pulls me under. I can say that now. If I post up 10 pounds next week, you know the lasagna won. I hope I win.
-
Put a little serving of the yummy/too salty stuff on your plate and load the rest up with salad and/or whatever else is a more healthy choice. That way you get a taste, the hostess doesn't feel bad, and if your plate in full, you don't feel bad or deprived either.
Santa Claus and company are coming to town today. I will be off board for a couple days playing hostess. Enjoy the holidays! If we are moderate in our choices; take one serving instead of two, pick the small piece of fudge instead of the large one, take a walk instead of a nap etc...then it won't be so hard to step back on the scale when all the festivites are over....and if we have to lose the same 10 pounds (or .4 of a pound in ducky's case
) all over again; well, that's all right too! Much love! Ruth
-
Ruthbru..............maybe I should try the "prunes and colace"..........................who knows, I might lose another "4 ounces".................................hahahaha.........................ok, and don't you say "well at least you didn't gain".....................................have a great holiday, and enjoy whatever you eat, drink, or do.............
-
Ruth, exactly what I was thinking, so offered last night to bring the salad and crudites for the appetizer smorgasbord. It will definitely be more satisfying to have something safe to gnosh. I have to train myself to smell lasagna and garlic bread and just have a little on my plate along with the right stuff. The devil on my shoulder saying "Oh, what the hell?" Well that little bastard should get the swollen legs and it would teach him to shut up. Eh? I'm sure I will get better with this, already eating the fruits and vegetables much more religiously and some of the salt pangs have gone down. Merry Christmas, thinking of you right now and your relatives arriving early because you are such a good hostess.

OMG! I'm so behind, but what fun I had catching up :-D What a riot, this is such a fun . . . funny group. Welcome to all the newbies! Just to touch on what to do during an afternoon lull . . . I have two tricks I use,
1) S-T-R-E-T-C-H: I've learned how to do full body stretch while sitting in my reclincer. I am always amazed at how sluggish I start off and how much energy I have when I'm done (and it keeps me out of the kitchen). I don't do anything real strenuous, I follow the Lebed method for the most part. Sometimes, if I feel up to it, I will do it on my exercise ball, get a little bounce in there and some really good back stretches.
2) Sunshine. I know this may not be for everyone year round, but I set up a patio lounger in the sun and I'll grab a magazine and head out there and just sit and thumb through a mag for about 15-20 minutes. Feels good and I like that I can get a little extra vitamin D.
Oh yea, and one thing I just started, possiblly triggered by holiday fatigue, is have a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Seems to suppress my cravings and I love caffeine!
Now I just wish I could take my own advice ha! I've been such a slug lately so I'm happy to report I only gained 1/2 pound this week. Whoo hoo!
Now on with the holidays! Wishing everyone special moments with loved ones and sweet memories to carry forward. Love and hugs xoxo
-
Happy Holidays ladies...............................your a great bunch of good friends, and could not have made it without all of you..................hugs, and best wishes..........
-
Merry Christmas to a great bunch of ladies ! My mother is out of hospital and doing well.
-
JFV...............another christmas present for you .............how wonderful.....prayers for you Mom........................
-
Merry Christmas to all of us!! All I want for Christmas is Willpower!
-
Happy Holidays!!!
-
Merry Christmas Everyone! Will DEFINITELY get back on track after the holidays!!!!?!!!!
Wishing everyone a peaceful Holiday Season and a happy Healthy New Year!
-
Wrestled with the christmas lasagna and every salty delicious appetizer on the table, and only had teensy portions of any of that. Lots of fresh fruit. Yipee.
-
I am back to counting calories every day!!!
-
Time to push away the fruitcake, cheese logs, and chocolate truffles! We've eaten like royalty around here for the past three days, but to be honest, I'm over all that rich stuff and ready to lighten things up. Besides, I'm afraid my bootaytay is going all lush and plush, know what I mean?
So yeah, I think tomorrow I will go buy a basket full of kale... and take my luxurious backside out for a long, brisk walk.
-
Ate everything in sight....am now contemplating throwing the rest of the goodies in the garbage and covering them with kitty litter so that I can't dig them back out! I have exercised pretty well, so that will help anyway.
-
I'm scared . . . very, very scared.
