I saw the Medical Oncologist today and learned about NSABP Protocol B-43.

This seems like an important clinical trial for DCIS.  I understand that prior studies have been done exclusively with IBC, so there is no targeted treatment for HER-2 DCIS. Apparently, trastuzumab has downsides, but so does HER-2 positive.  I think I'd like to know my HER-2 status and have a chance of targeted treatment, if test is positive.

Hi lioness 1111, I was told that the study is very important.  They tried to get me into the study, but the amount of tissue from both the surgery and needle biopsy was lacking sufficient tumor tissue. So, they could not test it for HER2neu. I agree that this study will be very helpful in the future.  Good luck with your treatment.

    Thanks for the good words.

My tumor was pretty small, so we may run into the same issue.   I've pretty much decided to participate.  I'm all for anything that expands treatment options for DCIS, especially the ER negative kind.
