How long did it take you to get mri results?

If it's any consolation, it was the quickness of getting my results that had my anxiety spinning into out and out fear...

I went for my MRI on a late Weds morning, and was told I would get my results in 24 hours.

Within an *hour* from when I got home, I got a phone call saying that there was a new finding and that they were sending me to a breast surgeon for a biopsy.

But it all came back B9, so even then, with the swiftness, wasnt a sign of it being malignant. 

Hoping your results come back sooner than later and you are given the *All is A-OK!*  

I had the results of my initial breast MRI the next day. Ditto for follow-up, pre-treatment plan diagnostic full MRI and a follow-up to that one on my liver. 

All my pre-treatment testing and a surgical biopsy, except for that initial breast MRI, were done over two days in a hospital (I was admitted to the hospital for insurance reasons, but it also made the whole process easier and faster). My doctor came by each morning and afternoon/evening with whatever test results had come back from the various labs.

I have yearly MRIs---I usually get results in 3 to 5 days.

mom3band1g, sorry it's taking them so long to get that report to you.  It really depends on the facility.  The "results" are available immediately, but it sometimes takes awhile for a radiologist to look at the images and interpret them.  Then, depending on the facility, you might have to wait some more until the radiologist can get the report to the doctor who ordererd the MRI and he or she can contact you.

Fortunately, the policy at the place where I'm being treated is that the radiologist communicates the results to the patient, no matter who ordered the test.  I've had 2 contrast breast MRI's, and each time I got the results within a few hours (literally).

My first MRI was done around 8:30 in the morning.  My BS had also ordered a U/S of my armpit to make sure my nodes weren't enlarged (which would have ruled out SNB at my upcoming surgery).  The U/S was scheduled for 10:30 that same morning, and when the radiologist walked in, she said she had already read my breast MRI and there were no other abnormalities besides the tumor we already knew about.

My second MRI was done a year ago, for screening purposes because the tissue in my remaining breast is (still) dense and mammograms don't show anything but snow.  That one was scheduled for around 2:30 p.m.  Afterward, they told me to go up to the mammography center where a radiologist would give me the results as soon as the images had been interpreted.  The mammography center was running really late, so at 4:15 the tech suggested I just go home and someone would call me first thing the next morning.  At 7:30 that same evening, I got a call from a radiologist who was "happy" to tell me they had found nothing abnormal on the MRI.  "We figured you might like to hear the news right away, instead of having to wait until tomorrow," she said.

Those are good people who work in the radiology section of the hospital/cancer center where I've been treated.  I wish everybody was so fortunate.

I also had all my test back with a day or two with the exception of my biopsy which took almost 2 weeks. I wonder if your hospital is Outsourcing there test? That could be one reason for the delay. Like some one else mentioned i would def call Monday and see if they are back.

Can you call the hospital and tell them you want your report also sent to your GP? I always do this, and he will generally get back to me as soon as he gets them

Mom3, your doc would probably be interested to know that you love her but hate her office. A few years ago I told a doctor about some problems I had in her office and she was VERY interested. And the problems were fixed immediately!

Is there any reason you can't call your surgeons office, request they make a copy of your MRI report and asked what would be a convenient time for you to pick it up?  My last screening MRI I picked up the report either the day or the test or the next day.  I called my surgeon to move up our appointment because the results came back BIRAD4 (very suspicious enhancement, recommend a biopsy).  I got her first available opening and she arranged for the biopsy.  A day or two later she left on her vacation.  If I hadn't gotten in for an earlier appointment I would have had to wait for her return to move to the biopsy. 

Remember no body cares as much about your body as you do and all these wonderful medical people work for you.  Good luck.

There's always the technique of camping out in the doc's office. Get a good book and maybe a little cooler full of refreshments, and let them know you're not leaving until you get your results. 

You can get a copy the next day from the place you had it done.

Mom3- Oh what wonderful news, so very happy for you! I had a feeling they had them but hadnt got around to calling you, i have seen it happen so many times. If it is benign, then it is a cyst or fibroadema (sp) Now you can enjoy the holidays!

I would call and make a complaint to the DR office about this, it is not right to make you wait that long when they had the results in.

I had the same thing happen, my onco said he would call with the results as soon as he got them in, i called my self and got them within the week, 2 weeks later he calls himself to tell me the results, I let him know i was very dissapointed and that i had the results already no thanks to him!
