Dear ladies!

This question is not related to breast cancer, or maybe it is. My mum decided to go on a detoxification diet in which she doesn't eat any solid food, just milk-shake every day three times. It is a speical diet programme. My mum was diganosed with BC in 2008. Er and Pr positivea dn HER2 negative. She is not overweight, but to tell the truth, she should lose some weight. That's why she decided to enter this diet. She started it on Friday.

Today, she felt exhausted and she had a headache (all day long). Can these symptomps be the signs of detoxification?
Just one more question: Do you think it is right to change lifestyle? I mean she never ate unhealthy junk food, but she seems to be a chocolate addict since here diagnosis. What do you ladies think about that?

Thank you very much
Dortey

    Hi,

Sounds like your mom is not really doing detoxification but just a liquid diet for faster results. True detoxification usually requires a lot of planning and supplements of raw food and juicing. Clean eating.

To answer your question, yes, she definately can have headaches but I would bet it's because she is not eating enough and many people have headache in responce to hunger.

    Hope she is doing well.

I wouldn't worry about the chocolate unless she is eating pounds of the stuff daily.  In fact, some chocolate is a good thing.

The diet is nuts.  Not sound for a couple of reasons.  The first is that much too limiting nutrition-wise.  The second is that this is a formula designed to backfire.  What happens is that the body thinks it is starving, so burns fewer calories.

What works is the combination of moving more and eating less.  That way you increase the burn, and give it less fuel.

I had that sort of headache yesterday afternoon.  I did a long bicycle ride and ate very little afterward.  Then I went to a fundraising auction at the church.  I had a headache and was grumpy.  I bought a plate of food in a hurry, and was just fine.

Hope your mother starts eating real food soon. - Claire

Dortey, the main Breastcancer.org site has a section on Nutrition Resources that may help you and your Mum with useful information to plan a healthy diet and exercise plan. The BCO section Think Pink, Live Green focuses on reducing risk through diet and lifestyle too.
