3jaysmom - Wow! Congratulations. I really envy all of you here for your persistence. I've let things slip as my recovery moved along. But Mom's coming back to help me for chemo on Tuesday, so I need to tidy up again. My 'big' accomplishment was tossing out the 2006 year planner I still had hanging around... yes, that's how bad it is. My excuse is that I held on to it to cull the phone numbers I had jotted down as possible contacts (I was a reporter at that time meeting some pretty high-up people in the industry I was covering). But I'm not anymore and most likely will never need to reach them, and if I do... that's what press spokespeople are for. So out it went. Sounds pathetic, but I do look at it as an accompishment. I'll find a few other scattered things in the next few days to toss.

It looks like everyone has been busy.... wrapping all their clutter/stuff they want to get rid of as presents ~ I'm re-gifting a few things too..

Regifting doesn't bother me...as long as it's something I need; otherwise, I'll regift it the next year...lol! The adults in our family don't exchange gifts anymore, we do a white elephant exchange which is some crazy thing you have around the house that you don't want anymore...wrap it up and bring it. We draw numbers and every gets to choose a gift to open in numerical order. It's fun and cuts down on the expense of buying gifts for everyone. I usually have it at my house, but this year I'm passing because I'm recovering from surgery and don't want the hassel. Maybe DD will volunteer her home!
-
Kaara, that sounds like a fun party... I'm thinking an ugly sweater party would be fun too, along with the usual festive beverages and eats.
Oh, and how are you doing since your surgery?
-
samsue: It really is fun...DD said she would take it on this year...we'll do it on Xmas day. Ugly sweater would be fun....I'm thinking I will look for one for the white elephant gift. We have a flea market here that probably sells them cheap! Guaranteed to come back year after year! Right now there is an ugly doll that keeps reappearing.
I'm doing great after surgery...no more tylenol even...but still waiting for the final pathology report which was due today and didn't come through. I hate this waiting...it truly sucks.
-
At work we had a white elephant that involved in stealing one anothers gifts. I would up with a game where one picked the provided nose. No typo. I regifted it to one of my sons as a joke but it didn't go over to big being from Mom!

that sounds like great fun!!!! maybe next year, we'll get to the point when i can actually HAVE a party!!heck, i've already got the theme!!!
glad you're doing well, Kaara
we'll make it through, some of us, even happily!!!its 9 days and counting!!!ten days, and i'll be at the movies, a reward for making it thru chhristmashahaha
-
Not to belabor this white elephant thing, but it's even more fun when the person who picks a gift and opens it has the right to take anyone else's gift and give them their's if they don't like what they picked.
We used to do this at work too, and one of the funniest gifts was an anotomical doll (had all the sex organs on display) opened by my prudish assistant! The room was howling with laughter and she turned beet red! She did keep the doll however.

Teka, patoo,rachelvk,samsue,kaara,gingerbrew,3jaysmon,and everybody else. Hello to all. I'm so glad to see everyone is making some progress. Teka, you really seem to help this thread along. Thanks. Loved the idea about a white elephant for adults in family. We all need a laugh. Thanks for for a laugh today. Sending all some Holiday Cheer.

kaara: did you notice? right after we started talking about the sweaters, channel 7 here had a story about them.. there's even an internet shop for the ugliest christmas sweaters, and they're doing really well, this yyear, they say.. i nearly died! i have a long sleeved t shirt black, with poinsettas' yes, they have sequins too.. i wear it every christmas, with a red suit.. i'll post it.. so, the reporter has a sweater just LIKEit, as an exampe of "ugly" and i thought it was NICE!!!my taste runs yto animal print so didn't my moms, so who knows! Im still wearing it.. it brings her back, for the day.............3jays
-
3jays: Wear that shirt with pride...beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I've given so many of those sweaters away....if only I had saved at least one! If this keeps up they will become collector's items!

3jaysmom,Kaara,Teka: I have an ugly sweater that I ADORE. It is knitted with a christmas tree on one side and a nutcracker on the other. I was so excited the year I could finally afford one.! It is about 18 years old. I thought it would be an investment that I could use every year. My daughters tell me it's ugly so now I don't wear it. I want to know, why do all these people call them ugly now?
-
dunno, but, im wearing mine again this year!!!christmas morning.. i'll post a pic......3jays
-
They are only "ugly" if you listen to the media who has decided to make an issue of this (slow news day I call it) and use up 15 mnutes of TV time talking about it! I'm sorry I gave all mine away!

I like Christmas and other holiday sweaters. So there naysayers, decoration is a good thing and a wonderful thing on sweaters and sweatshirts where they can be a personal expression of holiday cheer!
Love Ginger, who at 66 is close to being able to ignore convention with impunity.
-
im 61, ginger, and i'm with you!!!My hubs, Mur, ASKED me to wear the poinsetta t shirt.. he bought me a matching pantsuit ( thats what i wear most ) in christmas red, to match it.. he loves the shirt, and the fact that it was my moms just amkes it that more special.. its' a little more tight, with the weight froom hyoo thyroid, but im all in.. christmas eve, id my dads' (whos also gone) bah humbug sweat shirt, and thats my xhristmas wardrobe. im old, and earned the right to wear what III like!!!3jays
-
even though its the 21st, a daily donation to Goodwill is going out, FULL of no longed going to use boxes of christmas stuff. 3 boxes this morning.. i love the idea that someone will enjoy what i've saved for my boys, who dont want them!!and i don't have to see ANY i don't want, or need ever again!!!!3jays

good jobs ladies! Teka, thanks for keeping this thread going... Last year I cleared out 60% of my Christmas decorations, and this year has been soo nice! Much easier to decorate, and I expect the cleanup and putaway will be much easier than in the past.
"Ugly" Christmas sweaters have been "in" for a couple years now - the college kids got on the bandwagon... My thinking is that if it makes you feel good, go for it!
These days, I'm decluttering my wardrobe - if it's boring, it's gone. I am done with being too practical.
-
I gave away practically all of my old (like new) clothes to my DIL who needs them for her job. I'm now going with comfy lightweight things that pack easily and do not need dry cleaning or ironing. The best thing is they are made of stretchy material and when I lost weight they went down with me! Chico's is my favorite store right now.
Sometimes I get rid of things too quickly and wish later I had them back...like my nice St. John outfit that I had for special occasions when I was working, that would fit me again if only I hadn't given it away to my DIL. Guess I could always borrow it back if I really wanted to!
Finally got back into a real bra today and it feels fine. Don't know how long you're supposed to wait after surgery to make the switch from sports to real, but I'm over a week, so thought it was ok.
Have a fun day everyone! I'm going shopping...window shopping that is!
