How much do you hate those ginormous hospital gowns?
I'm 5'2" and weigh 120 pounds. These gowns that are provided are so big I can wrap the thing around me twice, except for the ridiculous arm openings to accommodate IVs, which no one needs for radiation treatments. It took me ten minutes to solve this problem.

I cut a soft t-shirt down the middle of the back, then sewed on two pairs of ribbons to use as ties - one pair at the neckline and one in the middle of the back. You could add more ties or use velcro. I wasn't trying to be too pretty, just wanted my own thing that would fit way better than the gowns. I'm going to make another one with ties down the middle of the front for those "frontal" exams. Or you can wear both if you're worried about total coverage. Cotton t-shirt material won't unravel, so you don't even need to finish the seams. I used pinking shears to make my cut, but I don't think it would matter. If you're worried, use some iron on hem tape, fold it over and make a folded seam.
No more tripping on all that ridiculous fabric, either!

Or...you could go onto the shoop site @ Breastcancer.org, find the link to Healing Threads (www.healingthreads.com) There you will find recovery wear that fits XS - 3XL. Part of the proceeds will go directly back to Breastcancerorg. We are 3 sisters who designed these garments after 2 of us were diagnosed with cancer. Cancer patients helping cancer patients, and all patients for that matter. Thank you.

Lovely products, Peg. But for those who might find the price a bit too hefty, my "free" solution is not bad.

I had just the opposite problem at my PS office. I am 5'6" and about 135lbs. The gowns were tiny little tops that went down to just above my belly button- letting my lovely muffin top stick out! It didn't even meet at the back so it could be tied! I was beginning to wonder if I was at a pediatric PS office!!

Tif - I know the gowns you are talking about! The ones at Menorah's Breast Center are small, too - great for me but probably not great for anyone who isn't petite.
-
Michelle- Dr. Jew at Menorah did my surgery and her office gowns are little too. I always ask if I can have a bigger gown so nothing is hanging out!! I really don't have a lot hanging out, but still makes me feel weird!!

Ah yes, I had Dr. Balanoff - same practice. Those gowns were perfect...for me!
