Day Three
Our Lady of the Angels, present our petitions to your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Prayers for Heather, Noreen, Sheila's twin sister on this feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
From a website I use for CCD: http://www.holyspiritinteractive.net/kids/saints/1212.asp
Our Blessed Mother appeared to a fifty-five year old Indian, Juan Deigo on December 9, 1531.
Juan who had become a Catholic, was going to Mass early one morning when Our Lady stopped him as he was making his way down Tepyac Hill. Mary asked him to go to the bishop and tell him that she wanted a great church built on the very spot where she was standing.
The Indian was very troubled. He wanted with all his heart to do what the Lady commanded. But how could he approach the bishop? How could anyone believe such an unusual request?
Juan Diego went to the bishop. The bishop of course, did not believe his story. He did not want to offend Juan and told him to ask the Lady for a sign the next time he met her.
Juan was caught in the middle. The Lady knew what she wanted; the bishop had the power to make her wish come true, but he wanted proof.
On December 12, early in the morning, Juan Diego was hurrying along the path. His uncle was dying and he was going to get the priest. Juan had no time to waste and did not want to meet the lady so he took another route.
But Mary appeared again to Juan and told him that his uncle was better. In fact, Juan found out a little later that Our Lady had for a moment appeared to his uncle and he was immediately cured.
The Lady asked Juan to go back to the bishop. She wanted him to build a church. Juan remembered the bishop's request and asked Mary for a sign. Mary sent Juan into the rocky area nearby and told him to gather the roses that were there.
Juan was confused. He knew there were no roses. It was winter, there was snow on the ground and the bushes were bare. But Juan did as he was told and there really were roses, beautiful roses. Excited, Juan picked them all and went to the bishop.
He carried them carefully in his tilma (cloak). Juan clutched his cloak and made his way into the room where the bishop was. Slowly he let down his cloak and the beautiful roses, fresh and wet with dew, fell to the floor.
Juan smiled but was shocked when the bishop and his attendants knelt down in front of him. He followed the bishop's eyes that were staring at his cloak. And then he saw her, the picture of his beautiful lady, glowing on his tilma.
Her image was life-size, exactly as she had appeared. The bishop had received his sign and Mary would have her church.
Today a great church, called a basilica, stands on the spot where Our Lady of Guadalupe came to her people. Our Lady of Guadalupe was named patroness of Mexico and is also patroness of Latin America and the Philippines.

Theresa, wonderful article. Today is a big day in San Antonio - lots of celebrations for our Lady.
I met a man named John in Whole Foods, buying all kinds of sprouts and wheatgrass. I thought he was a chef, I asked him how he prepares them - he explained his wife is juicing them. She was misdiagnosed for almost a year - had BC Stage 4 mets. He said docs didn't think chemo would keep her alive another 6 months. Her tumor markers were in the 600 and now in the 200. Prayers for John and his wife.

Everyone,
Please keep in your prayers my nephew, James. James is 17 and has suffered third degree burns over a major part of his body this weekend. He is presently at Cornell Burn Center and is expected to need extensive skin grafts and additional treatments.
Please also keep in your prayers his parents, Lisa and Chip, and sisters Sophie and Emmy.
-
Sandy, praying for your family, that God's healing hands touch James and embrace him and his family though this very long difficult process.

We moved to Texas from the NY, Philly area, we had lived all over the world, many non Christian ones, my husband is Jewish but we raised our children Roman Catholics.
My first social function, a woman asked[, that I had never been asked before," What religion you have" I told her I was Roman Catholic and I was that I was not Christian, well I have a Degree in Philosophy and my Thesis was on religions.
Did I put her in her place, but I can say I have never lived in a more anti Catholic place in my life.
Now that is Christmas I feel that also it is anti Jesus, because they want to impose the "Holiday"at Christmas, I will not shop in a store that is not recognizing Christmas for what is is.
Here it is almost impossible to find anything to add to our Nativity that we have every year. Merry Christmas to everybody.

I was saddened to read that Cardinal Foley passed away of Leukemia over the weekend. His was the voice who narrated the Midnight Mass from the Vatican every year, and he was also the one who was the voice of the Vatican narrating the ceremonies and explaining the symbolism of various rites of passage as Pope John Paul II died and Pope Benedict was installed. That familiar voice was such a comfort during that period of upheaval.
When my children were too young to attend Midnight Mass, we watched the Mass on TV as we got the presents under the tree while they slept so we were ready for an early morning opening before we attended noon Mass on Christmas Day.

In a world that admires ambition, applauds assertiveness and accomplishments, we often are tempted to equate power with importance, wealth with worth. But from his birth (in a lowly stable!) to his ascension, Christ portrayed the truth that meekness is indeed strength. The gift of God’s presence is not for the haughty or the mighty. It’s for the meek and lowly, for those who seek to be like Christ.

O mother of the word incarnate, despise not my petitions but hear and answer me. Amen.
For James, his parents , my mother noreen, sas,s sister, heather, and the good intentions of all here -
Yes, Pat, it was sad to lose so great a man. May Cardinal Foley's soul rest in peace.
Dreaming - I know what you mean about holiday.... but the way I look at it, we get the last laugh, because holiday means Holy Day!! I saw a commercial for Sears and won't shop there ... it was something like Find True Joy this holiday season, shop at Sears! Ah, NO! True Joy is finding the real meaning of Christmas - CHRIST! Not the perfect gift at Sears! Auugghhh!!
Ellie - absolutely! The meek and humble find God. You're very Franciscan! ;-)
May God's Holy Peace rest with you all today and everyday!
