So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
lifelover- thanks! The boys are very proud of themselves
-
My DH came down to grab lunch and said I was driving him crazy...I was simmering the sauce for the chicken parm, which is now in the oven. LOL! I teased him about not giving me a hard time about chicken parm two nights in a row and he said that what he had last night didn't count. He does like my cooking! He said he was just going to have to eat it before we got home from rads (my second DS is taking me tonight). He will have to "suffer" through linguine rather than penne. I told him 1) it's what we have and 2) I prefer it to penne, so chef's choice! Hey, he's having a good week, he had homemade chili for lunch. Better enjoy it before rads fatigue sets in
-
Michelle- I agree chefs choice on the pasta! And I am with you- I prefer linguine to penne. I hope rads went well and you enjoy your dinner. Great job planning ahead and having just want you want for dinner.
I tried Debbie's recipe for Belgian Chicken tonight- excellent! It's like a chicken stew, DH loved it and the kids ate all theirs too, not overly thrilled, but they ate it! I couldn't decide whether to make mashed potatoes or rice and went with the easier of the two and picked rice. It was really good together. I cut the recipe in half, but added more carrots so it was our sole veggie. We will definitely have this again- thanks Debbie!
oh- and when I went to get one of my husbands Belgian wheat beers I realized it had raspberry in it- (he bought it for when his sister visits apparently.) So I used Bud Light
Still wor
-
Thanks, Laurie. My DH declared that I "outdid myself" with the chicken parm, and I thought it was pretty darn good, too!
The trip tonight was long going in - we left at 4:30 and arrived at 6:10. There was traffic along most of the way. But the ride home was super-fast, mostly because DS #2 was driving as fast as the traffic would allow...literally. I was holding on for dear life! He has a BMW and feels perfectly justified in going very fast.
-
Came home at 6:30 made up a meatloaf and fancied it up with lots of herbs, mashed potatoes and gravy also corn on the side. We were eating at 8:00.
Does anyone else HATE emptying their dishwasher as much as I do???
-
Lol Deborye!! The answer is a resounding YES!
When my husband and I were first married we had no dishwasher and everything had to be washed by hand.... We both worked at the time and literally every dish, fork, spoon, etc. we owned was used (rinsed and on the counter) before one if us would break own and do the dishes... It took a long time... We were young and stupid....lol
The first house we moved to that had a dishwasher was just heaven.... For awhile...
After not too long, it became.... who is going to empty the dshwasher?!? Too funny! -
Michelle,
Glad things are going relatively well with your rads schedule.... We got ice and snow (3-5 inches)
late afternoon and into the evening yesterday... First accumulation of the season so lots od accidents!! Happy to hear that the weather stayed of the non-frozen variety for you! -
Michelle- Glad it went well and DS #2 got you home safely in a jiff!
Deb- YES to the dishwasher emptying. And I seem to run mine every other day, and I won't run it until not one other thing will fit in it. The kids sippy cups with the little rubber things you have to pull out then reinsert- hate them.
Seaside- great story about the dishes
Carrie- still waiting to hear how your mom is doing....hope all is well.
-
Laurie,
I hear you on the dishwasher in that I don't run it until it is full! And I still do my pots and pans in the sink....Still working on getting the kids to the point where they realise that, if they use a glass for water, it can be re-used and my youngest is 18....lol! -
Seaside- So there is no hope?? lol! I too wash pots and pans by hand and use the same water glass- just 1 each day. After 14 years even my DH knows to look for it and not dirty a second when getting our waters for dinner- can't stand the waste.
So, if someone else loads your dishwasher- DH, friend at a party etc- do you need to rearrange it so it's "right" When did I become this person?!
-
Hate unloading the dishwasher.................absolutely hate it...................you would think I would be happy to do it.........................with 6 kids when I was younger, and my husband (who did nothing domestic) I washed, dried, and put away, and never complained.................................now I have a dishwasher, and bitch about having to empty it...............................however, it is just me...................kids, all married for many years, and husband died 20 years ago............................had my children in the 50's , and no diswasher till 1974 , and only because it was in the house we moved into after leaving Philly.
-
Lol Laurie!!! As much as I hate to admit it, I have been known to re-arrange the dishwasher a bit!!! I would prefer to think we are just getting things to fit better in the interest of water conservation but I know, in my case, that's a stretch.... I just like the dishes placed how I put them..... God help me....lol!
-
LOL at the dishwasher dilemmas! My DH is getting pretty good at emptying and/or filling when required. I will put everything in there, pots and all, unless there is not enough room. And yes, sometimes I rearrange it to get more in! I even rearrange at my daughter's house! It drives me nuts when DH will put one plate in the middle of the bottom rack. Start at one end and line those plates up, how hard is that???
Happy Birthday to your mom, Joyce! Enjoy your shopping on Saturday!
I keep looking ahead at the ten day forecast and it looks like clear sailing through next week. Thank you, Mother Nature!
-
Ducky... I agree.... Isn't it the strangest thing that the dishwasher is such an improvement over the old handwash and all that involved but yet, we all hate the dishwasher emptying!
-
Michelle- Funny story on your son's driving, maybe he was trying to show you rads was a piece of cake next to his driving LOL!
Laurie- I'm glad you liked the recipe, I' m going to make it next week, I will probably use coors light, since that's what kind of beer I like. I bought some bulbs at the craft store today, can't wait to color them saturday.
Carrie- worried about you and your mom. (((((Hugs))))
Funny story's on the dishwasher, my DH waits until I"m almost done and say's "Do need any help honey" He means well haha!
Tonight DH and I went to safeway to shop, there were 3 teenagers ( 2 boy's 1 girl) probably in there late teens or early 20's they were standing in front of a item i wanted, they were just talking so the girl says get out of her way, I said oh, your ok, thanks, and the one boy says yeah get out of the old lady's way dumb head! Every one at the same time (including me and DH) said OLD LADY! He quickly said I said older not old, you are older than me, we all laughed, but honestly I wanted to say you little F,,,ker! Thought i looked pretty good until he said that LOL! Where are these kids manners these days!!!
-
Oh Debbie, I'll bet you wanted to smack that rude little sh$t!
-
That kid would have deserved it too!
So funny on the dishwasher, I guess we are all the same. I hate emptying it. And I am nuerotic about the way it is loaded. I always rearrange it if someone puts something in the wrong spot. I have no idea why I'm like that, I am not with anything else around the house. All the different size spoons and forks all have a particular place. It makes it go quickly when unloading, but I know I am using the time I'm saving on the unloading by rearranging the stuff, lol. I also do the pots and pans by hand. When we are out of glasses, it's time to run the dishwasher, usually every other day. I wish I could get everyone to just use one glass per day, but haven't been able to.
I saw Jersey Boys and went to the Palm restaurant, a steak house for dinner with my sister last night. Had filet mignon, first time in quite a while and it was really good. And a delicious flourless chocolate cake for dessert. But the highlight was the show, I've been wanting to see it and it was fantastic! Oh What a Night! LOL (fyi that is one of the songs in the show, I guess if you have to explain a joke it wasn't that funny, or so I've been told)
-
Michelle- I wanted too, I put extra face cream on last night before i went to bed LOL! Hope your day goes smooth today!
Kay-mmmmm chocolate flourless cake. and I love filet mignon. LOL! I got the joke hehe!
-
Tonight after rads we are going to the Hilltop Steakhouse for dinner. This is another flashback as we have been there a few times, decades ago. And then they opened up one in Nashua but eventually it closed. DH chose this, he really wants to go. The place is like having dinner at the Ponderosa, very western, fake cows, etc. Should be quite a trip! I'll probably have a filet.
Took my mom to lunch today, then to Target to buy 4 Christmas cards - for her sisters, one for her brother's widow, and one for my bratty sister. I had her sign them and address them, then I took them to the post office and they are on their way. I'm such a good daughter...LOL!
-
Thanks everyone. Mom is doing ok..cant get her out of ICU because her heart rate wont stabilize, so they give her meds and then she plummets. Otherwise she is alert, oriented and very crabby (which means she is back to normal) haha. We take bets on how long the nurses will tolerate her before they kick her out. I am very fortunate to have two of my siblings close by and we are all sitting together, and sharing some of the driving (1 1/2 hrs away) and taking care of Dad. Tomorrow I am taking a day off, we have a Christmas party to attend. I also have school work to caught up on. Did I tell you guys I am back in school? Changing careers since losing my job....not a sm feat at 53!
You guys are the best...and even if I am not posting, I am reading.
Made a big pot of goulash for us at home and my Dad, have not eaten at home all week.
-
It has been years and years since I went to the Hilltop on Route 1. We went by it not to long ago after dropping my DD off at Logan, we took route 1 home the hooked over to Lynnfield then North Reading were I use to live.
-
Carrie- So glad to hear your mom is ok, and got through surgery!! Keeping her in my prayers!
-
Carrie,
So glad to hear that your Mom came through her surgery fine!! Now have to get her in shape enough to come home.... Going by when my Dad was in the hospital last year, crabby = recovering! So all good there!
Congrats on going back to school!! I did the same when I lost my job at 41.... It was really hard but so rewarding!!! I got a chance to get to know and really connect with so many classmates who were not much older than my own kids as well as people who were older than I!
If you don't mind sharing, what are you studying? Wish you the best as you come to the end of tne semester! -
Carrie- I missed the part of you going back to school, i was in ahurry and just wanted to make sure your mom was ok. Wow, that's amazing you are back in school you will probably really enjoy it. Im with seaside, what are you studying?
-
So glad everything went well with your mom Carrie- and I am glad you checked in with us! I've been watching for your post. I hope she gains strength and can have a wonderful Christmas. Also, glad that you have such great support with your siblings. Siblings make things so much easier sometimes. And I agree with everyone else- what are you studying to do?
Michelle- You are a good daughter! Hope you enjoyed your steak dinner.
Kay- glad you had such a great night last night, sounds like so much fun!
By the end of the day I was tired so I made tacos for dinner. The boys were thrilled and they each ate two so I was thrilled. Yesterday we made sugar cookies which came out ok ,except for the fact that they are so ugly it looks like there was no parental involvement at all, lol! Ohwell, they eat them and they had fun and thats what it's about.
-
Carrie I'm glad your Mom is OK!
No dishwasher here except me!
We're back to Mushroom Barley soup with fresh bread and salad and oranges for desert.
Next Broccoli Cheese soup.
The cats are going bonkers on Catnip for dinner!
-
lol Bedo! This is the time of night when I give my cats their nip too! Makes them play hard and then sleep while I sleep instead of jumping on my head
-
Bedo,
LOVE a good bowl of soup! I think I could eat soup every night if my family would let me get away with it! But they won't!
Tomorrow is our family Christmas get-together at my parents' house before they leave for Florida... In addition to an insane amount of finger foods, we have a couple of different pots of soup..... My contribution will be a cream of chicken soup! Just finished making it! It smells soooo good but since it is for tomorrow, we ordered pizza for tonight...lol -
Soup does sound good. I think I've made homemade soup twice. Wish I were better at it.
Carrie, glad your mom came through surgery well. I hope she gets out of the icy soon too. She sounds like quite a character. She'll give those nurses a run for their money. And best wishes at school! Wish I had the nerve and gumption to go back. Can't wait to hear what you're studying. -
Seaside- whats in your cream of chicken soup? Sounds good and like something the boys would eat too. I love soups. Have fun at your family party tomorrow. Love lots of finger foods- we now do the same on Christmas day at our house. When I had my second son I decided to stop cooking "the dinner" and instead make all sorts of random food. Everyone has loved the switch including me! It's easier and you can kind of clean as you go so less mess at the end. I was told by my SIL to add pulled pork nachos to Christmas day after our creation on my sons birthday party. I love that everyone has their favorite requests and actually asks me ahead of time if I could please make it.
Tomorrow night we are going to a Christmas party at the owner of my husbands company. We are all actually friends and we look forward to it every year. Lots of finger foods, she makes a ton and then people bring things as well. I am going to bring the buffalo chicken dip. My other SIL and her husband are coming over to do kid duty while we step out, yay!
