Hi girls,

I just wanted to share that I found a great store in Toronto that has a great variety of surgical, post-mastectomy, post-reconstruction bras. The people who work there are adult and compassionate and I was told they deal a lot with post-mastectomy patients. The service is great and very private. Post surgical bras are priced anywhere from $75-$110 and they have a great selection. 

They are called  Melmira Bar and Swimsuits (http://www.melmira.com). They are on Yonge and Lawrence. I dealt with Anna Sorgente and she was so amazing. They also carry some bras that were recomended here ina post on reconstruction: Chantelle, Freya

I also struggled to find silicone sheets for scar therapy and could only find online US stores. Well, i ended up calling many places and finally found that the phasmacy inside Women's College Hospital in Toronto carries a brand of Mepiform (micro-thin, self-adherent soft silicone dressing designed specifically for the care and reduction of scar tissue). They said one sheet is about $20 which is not too bad compared to Amazon plus shipping.

    Just for the sake of balance, I had a terrible experience with fitting at Melmira. She ignored the size of the well fitting and comfortable bra I walked in with, and fit me two cup sizes smaller, possibly because that was the largest size in the style I wanted. The cup does not fit my non-prosthesis side, just "floats" over the outer part of it, and the prosthesis rattles around in it and I don't look even in a sweater and in fact centred patterns in sweaters pull to the side. I could have done a better job fitting myself. The customer service interpersonal skill was nice and pampering but they bring you the bras they want to show you. You can't browse and pick for yourself like the pre-BC days. And if you want to know the price of anything you have to ask, and really, what can you do. You're naked with one boob. Where can you go. And she had the nerve to tell me what size I ought to be reconstructed as, like she knew my body image better than I did. No thanks. I've just been putting up with $800 or so worth of unsatisfactory bras and foob waiting for the recon.

    I have been to Melmira and they are always invited to present at all the hospital seminars dealing with mx and reconstruction. I found a little place in Aurora that is amazing!!! And much less expensive than Melmira. It's called Custom Comfort and run by 2 women - Maya and Angela. They carry a full range of post mx garments. It's very private but you can browse their inventory and they are very sensitive and lovely women. It's a 30 minute drive north of Toronto but easy to get to and you can park on Yonge St right in front of the store - no charge. One of the products I love from there is a camisole that you can put the prostheses in. They have very pretty ones and I find them so much more comfortable than the bra. Check them out.

    I bought my custom sleeve and glove at Custom Comfort. I dealt with Angela and found her amazing. Customer Service ++++.  When I went it to pick it up, she had me try it on. For some reason I instantly broke out in a rash. She had me take it off, wait 10 minutes then try it again. Same thing happened. She told me to go home and wash it and see what happens. Same rash appeared.

    She then ordered me a new one (different fabic), and the same thing happened. She got in touch with a lymphedema PT to find out what to do. She was willing to order a third set but I told her to just leave it because I don't have lymphedema and only wanted it incase I needed to fly. 

    Also, if anyone lives north of Toronto I can highly recommend Naturally Yours for bras, bathing suits, prosthetics etc. It's in Barrie.

    I can highly recommend Dianne's Mastectomy in Brampton.  Dianne has been in the business over 25 years and she has it all - forms, bras, compression garments etc.  You book an appointment with her, it's totally private.  Dianne is terrific- she even fills out the forms to send to OHIP to reimburse you for your prosthesis.  If the bra you want is out of stock, she will mail it to you free of charge (within Canada).

    For thouse of you in GTA, I can recommend you Pink Ribbon Boutique in Markham. Marie Randorf is great and you will get a very personal fitting with all the bits and pieces (large selection, OHIP, etc). Same as Dianne from Brampton, well worth the drive to Markham.

    Or if you are looking for a cheaper option, go online (prices for a mastectomy bra between 30-60 USD plus s&h, a large variety if you know your size).

    We just had one open up in Hamilton (Stoney Creek) called Gotta Be Me. It's kind of an unusual place. They have a fashion boutique at the front and a private mastectomy/wig boutique at the back. Interesting owners but very personable.

    They have 2 fitters I was told - they certs are on the wall. When I asked why they have clothes and jewellery, I was told they are a transformation shop. Transforming you into the person that you were, the person you want to be or just accepting who you are?

    Nice selection of mastectomy bras and forms and pretty good prices. I got a bra for under $50. We now have 2 here in Hamilton. Not too far from Toronto (about an hour).

    The lady spent almost an hour just talking to me. She also told me when I buy my new forms she has the applications for an Ontario grant which pays $200 towards new forms. Wasn't told that when I bought my forms almost a year ago. She gave me the number to check to see if I can still claim the refund.

    shoppers drug mart , the speciality health care stores have the large silicone tapes for 24.99 each
