Hysterectomy is in three hours 45 minutes

Options

Here I am again, unable to sleep the night of surgery...happened for my mastectomy, too. I had even taken a full xanax anticpating this. Oh well.

I should have all my ducks in a row for surgery with severe postmastectomy pain syndrome. The ob-gyn's nurse was so nice when I told her the extra little things I need since the pain is so bad. She called the operating room at the hospital right away on Monday to make sure they are aware. However, I know how things go, I am anticipating that their ducks will be out of order. If I am wrong, all the better to be happy and relieve some pre-surgery stress.

I did get a little zinger at my pre-op appt. with the high blood pressure. It went up when I found out I had cancer last year and have been stressed out about one thing or another (I also have a severe anxiety disorder). I have been taking my blood pressure pills for a week now. But read something online here or at the breast boards on ACS, that ovaries play a role in heart health. So I will have a last minute question for my surgeon before surgery, if I remember.

So in a few hours I will be arriving at the hospital. It is a one to two night stay in the hospital if everything goes ok.

Thanks for listening.

Mycinnamon- I understand your anxiety, I think most people get anxious right before any surgeries, I know i always have. With the hospital staff knowing your history of High BP I know they will be monitering you closely and you will be fine. You are in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery with no complications- May the angles enfold you in there light of protection!

    Please keep us posted-

    Hugs,

    Debbie

Hello All, thank you sooo much for the wonderful support. The docs had the ultra sound ready but the anesthesiologist was an idiot. He poked EVERYWHERE but where I TOLD him! Thank goodness the doc that got my iv started for my mastectomy came by to see all the commotion. She remembered mme. One poke in the RIGHT SPOT and bamb...iv started! After surgery, the head of the dept came to check on  me and I told him that I was not happy with the guy who wouldn't listen. I think he's in trouble for needless needle pokes and rightly so.

I was NOT happy that they would NOT put the blood pressure cuff on my leg. So I picked the left arm below the elbow. Thankfully, I had no reaction of burning and swelling like I had once before. However, it was NOT passed down in report a nd there was no notice on me or in the room about where to place the cuff.

Pain was horrible for 24 hours after. The doc. ordered me a pain pump of morphine that would express the med every six minutes by pressing the button.I had the nurse bitch from hell I remember from my mastectomy and she was so irritated with my pain and complaining I needed to eat so I could take pills. I hope I can swear cuz in my head I was thinking, I am in too much pain to eat bitch, I ahve to have pain under control first, dumbass. I was afraid to do press the button that much that would think I was a drug addict. However, the really cool, male hippey night nurse  said drug addicts come even if they dont have pain, I have pain, so press that button all you want, you can't od. So I pressed that button like crazy!!

Once again I had catheter troubles. I kept getting air pockets. THanks goodness my mom, who is a nursing assistant, noticed that I had no pee coming out. I kept telling her I felt like I had to pee but knew it was like talking to a brick to tell bitch nurse. But my mom pointed it out and here I kept getting air pockets in the line that prohibited urine flow. I suspect this was part of the pain, too. As the bladder swelled, it put pressure on the abdomen.

The morning after, it felt so good to get the packing out (gauze they put up the vaginal area). I felt like it was a magician pulling all kinds of material out his sleeve.. It wasn't as bad as the nurse said til he pulled the very last out. And my wonderful, thoughtful Brian showed up at 5 am to make sure he was there to hold my hand!! What a sweetheart!!Kiss

Pain was bad at home. The intestinal gas was terrible!! and I have never had to fart so much in my life!!! I moaned and groaned every time I farted.

Day hot flashes are not much worse than before, but man those night sweats are baaaaddddd...wringing wet then freezing cuz its winter and cold. If you turn the heat up, then worse you know?

My mood got really bad. I felt blah, lifeless. Over the weekend I was crying cuz I didn't feel like myself. I thought, if I have to live like this, then I made a big mistake.  Then I cried over country music. Looking back its pretty funny.

Today is a week out and my sense of humor is back, but man, my head is a bitch on wheels. It just wants to bitch. So I told Brian, my partner, EXACTLY how to handle me, lol, cuz sometimes he is clueless (and admits it) and not a mind reader, so hes doing just fine.

So its one week out. Pain isn't bad. I had hardly any bloody discharge. Mood is better.

But man, if I could give ANY ADVICE...skip the stool softener and take a laxative. I tried to push bm and that was a baaaad idea. I was taking stool softeners and nothing coming out. Once I took the laxative, it was much better.

I also found a website called hystersisters.com that is like breastcancer.org but only for ovaries out/hysterectomies. I highly recommend it

Mycinnamon- OMG! What a nightmare you had. If I could i would go have a not so nice talk to 'Bitch nurse" I was pretty lucky when I had my Mx, I had great dr. and nurses, but when i had my lung surgery I had the Bitch nurses as well, That was about 7 years ago and i still seethe over how i was treated.

Im so sorry you had a tough time, I somehow knew since you weren't checking in that you were not feeling well. That just sucks, im glad you are feeling better today, and glad you have a great partner who knows how to comfort you, even if it is by your suggestion LOL!

I totally agree on the stool softeners, didnt help me one bit, what i did was make a brown bomb that a friend told me about, it is 1 oz of milk of magnesia and 1 oz of prune juice, heat it up in the microwave for just a second so it is just warm. It works in about 20 minutes to a half hour.

Hope you start feeling better every day, and thanks for letting us know how you are doing,

    Hugs,

    Debbie

Thanks Debbie, you made me laugh!! And when I am up to it and taken a nice xanax, I am writing a letter to the head of the surgical floor, since this was my second run in with the bitch. I am also going to express how wonderful a certain nursing assistant  and night nurse was.

This nurse really needs to be disciplined.

Man, I wish I'd know about that brown bomb (at first I thought you meant what comes out lol). I would have taken that in a heart beat.

Today was better. My mood is back.

However, it is so funny cuz I used to love to watch Brian run around naked to shower and back, etc. etc. Now I am like a kid...that's icky. lol

We finally had a really nice kiss in bed and said so how was the sex??? (meaning our kiss)

Mycinnamon- LOL! Kisses can be sexual too. Hehe!

The brown bomb caused quite a stir on here when we first started talking about it, i wanted to add some liquor to it LOL! But it does work, Maybe we should change the name haha!

So glad to see you are feeling better and smiling again! I know when I first went through all my stuff i was really depressed and thought I would never feel the same again, but I feel better now than I have in years.

    Hugs,

    Debbie
