Looking for oncologist in Charlotte w/Tn Exp
I am looking for any recommendations of a oncologist in the Charlotte Metro area that has experience in TN. I have a oncologist, but he doesn't seem to know much about it or either doesn't care. We are like oil and water together, could be his arrogant personality that rubs me the wrong way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
mdhoward

mdhoward, I have an oncologist in Asheville I like a lot. I know thats about two hours from you, but thought I would mention it. Mine is a general oncologist but well trained.
-
what about 2nd opinion at Wake, Duke or Chapel Hill??
-
Right! Dr. Lisa Carey is at Chapel Hill and she is one of the top Triple Neg specialists. http://www.bcrfcure.org/action_grantees_carey.html

I went to Duke and saw Dr. Blackwell, I wasn't impressed with her after waiting in 8 hours in the waiting room to see her when my appointment was at 8:30 AM. Found out she was peer of my current oncologist, so she sided with him and basically told me to forget about it and start living my life. I have considered Dr. Lisa Carey, but I was hoping to find someone Charlotte that was closer for my visits every 3 months.
Thanks,
Monica

I saw Dr. Carey Anders for a third opinion - she is at Chapel Hill with Dr. Carey. I absolutely loved her - she spent time asking questions, did a full physical exam including non cancer side, made a few changes in my treatment regimen, had my residual tumor tested with the MD residual cancer burden calculator guidelines, and has been accessible since. I feel very good to know I can go see her at any point in my care. I thought the facility was very nice and the parking easy, too.

Christina, I'm glad to learn about Dr. Carey Anders. I have thought at some point I would like an opinion and advice as to whether to try one of the drugs in clinical trials, like Metaformin or Zometa, or anything else she might recommend. She sounds like a good Doc.

I am Triple Negative as well and I get treatment @ UNC. My ONC is Collichio. I actually haven't meet Dr. Carey Anders but I do know that she is consulted and is the one that wanted another round of Abraxane before let me have a break from Chemo, so I had another 6 months of treatment before the no Chemo declaration was made (I am Stage IV right out of the gate, NED 2+ years).
-
Hydeskate, Sounds like you are getting great care and attention. Excellent news that you are NED 2+ years.
