black kinesiotape

Just an observation about black kinesiotape. We live in Dallas, my husband was requested to attend a Christmas party in San Diego, so we decided I'd join him. I've recently had a flare that would not budge, so I became a regular at my LE therapist's office for the past several weeks. I was kind of freaked out about flying and puffing up, which is what happened the last time I flew anywhere. Our solution was mega-kinesiotape, in addition to all the other stuff we do to keep LE balanced. LE therapist put on beige here and there. Then, at home I put on what I had - black. All went well, less puffing than previously, and now that I'm home I've had very low swelling. Hooray. But the BLACK kinesiotape has left some significant tape burns everywhere it was placed. Beige tape areas are fine. Weird. While both did the job, the black left it's mark, for sure. No more black kinesiotape for me. I thought I'd mention this in the event someone is thinking of making a purchase, and black is an option........go beige.

KC - who do you go to in Dallas? I'm in FW, looking to find someone to teach me kinesio taping of my LE - truncal, not arms. I've only used KT for joint and/or muscle problems, never for LE.

I go to Covenant Hand Therapy in Plano (Gail Blom, owner). They have 4 LE therapists, all use kinesiotape if you ask them to. One in particular, Vanessa, is very enthusiastic about it and has a book of extensive designs which she likes to refer to. I use it mostly for my truncal issues. The LE therapists do my back and I tend to do my tummy. Possibly your local sports PT's, sports chiropractors also use kinesiotape and could explain it but I'm not sure how aware they would be of using it for LE. Go beige!

I did a consultation wtih Tiffany Arrendondo in Richardson at one point. She is excellent as far as LE awareness and treatment. I did not ask her about kinesiotape, though, so I can't confirm if she uses it, but I suspect she does. I used her to show me wrapping techniques, which she is far better at than my usual LE therapists.

I am with kcshreve--I had trouble with the black. Beige is better. I have also used red and blue with no problem.

I have got some spider tape for sensitive skin - has anyone tried it? I haven't tried it yet...I'll let you know how it works.

Bookart,
I went to Core Rehab in Bedford and they used the beige tape for my hand. You might call and ask if they can do truncal. 817-868-7575

This is an interesting thread....My LE therapist used KT for my LE and rotator cuff problems and I LOVE the stuff. For me the black stuck better than the other colors and lasted the full 5 days. Blue and beige tended to peel off by the second day. I did not experience skin problems with the black. I wonder if the color of the fabric has any effect on the adhesive?

Thanks, y'all. I'll check on some of these - I need some help with truncal. Most of the time I don' t have much problem, but when I do certain kinds of work, I have trouble. It would be so much better if I could tape and not have to wear compression for days and days. I think the tape would help.
