OMG Laurie - That cake looks absolutely delicious. Deb's right - we should have gone over to your house for dessert. Hey - my birthday's Friday. Think you can save me a piece.

Kay - I hope somebody complained to the Carvel store. What a disappointment for a little boy.  My friends granddaughter has celiac. When I bring dessert to a party, that I know she's going to be at, I always bring something gluten free for her. The mixes on the market today are pretty good, especially the brownies.

My future son in law is from the UK in Horbury, Wakefield West Yorkshire, he lives in Bermuda, that is were his job is and that is were my Daughter is right now.  They are engaged and getting married sometime next year, probably in the UK.  My grandparents are from the UK but they passed away a long time ago.

Good Chinese food is very difficult to find here in the UK but our local comes close to what I used to get in NYC.

Tonight it's Chicken Chausseur with loads of winter vegetables and a bottle of red wine   Oh yeah, maybe a few chunks of chocolate.

 Rava-Welcome, It's great to have some new kinds of dishes like the raindeer stew my DH would love it, I have never been a fan of gamey foods, but would deffinately cook it for him.

just an aside...

my cousin in law tracks, charts and hunts bears and shoots them with a powerful bow and arrow... then eats it all winter.  She heads the Minnesota conservation and wildlife division something or other and only shoots bear in over populations.  Her name is Princessa... LOL

OMG Apple!  Nothing "Princessa" about that picture...lol!  I had bear many years ago but didn't care for it.  Generally speaking, I am not fond of any big game meat unless it's farm raised.

The reindeer stew it typical for the northern parts of Norway. I live on the south west coast, but my husband is from the north of Norway.



The reindeer stew is quite simple, we use very fine cut meat, like small thin flakes, i cant find an english word for it. First I fry the meat with mushrooms and onion. Then I ad 2, 5 dl of broth and 3 dl of sour cream, we have one called creme fraiche witch I use. Then it boils for like half and hour. I use 1/2 kilo of meat for two grownups and two children. One big onion, and four big mushrooms. I use juniper as spice in the stew. I put it in from the beginning. I also use dried thyme, parsley and rosemary. And of course salt an pepper if needed.



Appel; I must say I am impressed by your CIL wow, shooting a bear with a bow and arrow, holy cow! I tasted bear meat once we were visiting my inlaws. It was quite special. It is not common to eat bear meat in Norway.. They bought it in Sweden. )







I serve with home made mashed poatoes and boiled broccoli, carrots and cauliflower.

Rava - don't worry too much.  You had the MX so I'm guessing they got most if not all of the cancer out.  If it takes a couple months before you start, it will be ok.  I had my bmx on 4/7 and started chemo on 6/15.  Once they know the HER status, they can start you pretty quickly.  My KI-67 was also high - 90% - so I understand your desire for things to go quickly!

I'm going to color my hair now, then I'm going to whip up some chicken parmesan so we can eat at home after my rads treatment.  One of my boys is taking me tonight, giving DH a break. 

Rava- What are some of the norwegian foods that are popular there? Would love some recipes!

OMG apple!  I wonder what polar-brown bear tastes like?  They are beginning to mate due to warming.  Laurie, I hope you are feeling better.  Rava good luck with  chemo, the ladies here will walk you through it. ,I had to have that test too and it turned out negative/OK.  I wish that I could visit your country!   I have missed a lot of posts and feel like I can never catch up so sorry if I missed anyone!  I am having Tomato Bulger Soup from the Moosewood Restaurant cookbook.  Soup Soup Soup!  Geez, I may be taking a 4-6 month job in SD to make some money, as there is no money in RI, that's for sure. :O

Today was stressfull...took my 77 yr old mom for an angiogram at one of the lg hospitals in rochester, and the cardiac surgeon said her aortic valve was severly diseased and needed to be replaced ASAP.  My mom being the stubborn person she is was pleading with the Dr. to let her go home and wait till after Christmas. I said that since I was the driver of the car, I was not taking her home, that she had to stay and get it done.  I know how scared she is, but I am more scared to have her walking around like that, where she could just collapse and die.  So surgery it is tomorrow at 6:30 in the morning.  Her birthday is the 13th, so I told her that her present was a new heart.

I had the best pizza soup at a restaurant last week...really got to investigate to get a recipe...yummm.
