So...whats for dinner?

I have to go clean my house! But real quick - wanted to share the photo of my sons amazing birthday cake made by a friend of mine!
-
That's amazing!!! It screams "John Deere" - what a great job she did!
We are back from our BCO lunch - there were six of us and we had a great time. If you want to see a picture, head over to the Boston area thread or see us on Facebook!
I probably won't be eating much for dinner tonight, my prime rib was fabulous even if I did end up wearing half my au jus!!!
-
Same happened to me, I plopped my baked potato on the plate and SPLAT all over the table and me. I am stuffed later I may have a small dish of ice cream.
-
Laurie- I love the cake, what a great job she did! The pictures on FB of your son is so cute.
Michelle and Deb- Love the picture of all you ladies, you all look georgous!
-
Wow Laurie thats an amazing cake...lucky little boy. I like the little corn stuck in the cake.
-
Decided to start my diet today, my fat pants are even getting tight on me and since we are going to hawaii in janurary i want to look decent in my new bathing suit i just bought ( a christmas present to me) LOL! My pork roast is smelling good in the oven right now, but i will have baked cod and green beans for dinner tonight, and serve the roast to DH. I decided Friday night will be my cheat night!
-
That cake looks to good to eat.
-
I'm going to make popcorn in a little while.
Debbie - not sure I could pass on roast pork for baked cod...pork is pretty lean these days.
-
Laurie - the cake is adorable. What was the birthday boy's reaction when he first saw it?
-
I am so glad all of you ladies had fun at lunch, I am sorry I missed it.
Apple- I love the wrestling story and how your son is finding his way and showing how amazing he is. The picture is adorable, and YES, f*ck cancer.
I actually felt bad cutting the cake- it was so beautiful. I will post a pic of the inside. Bottom layer was chocolate with chocolate chip frosting and chocolate ganash and the top was yellow cake with raspberry filling and hazelnut. Because the day on Saturday changed a bit I wasn't able to shop or get appetizers or food ready for the party. But it all worked out just fine. I threw out some veggies and dip and DH made pulled pork nachos. Sounds disgusting right? But they were awesome! I made pulled pork Sat in the crock pot and we used the leftovers for the nachos, everyone loved them and there wasn't a bit left. I threw together a caesar salad and we ordered pizza. I always stress about having people over and everything being perfect- I didn't this time. I don't know how I didn't? And even though I planned on doing things totally different the easy way we handled it turned out great.

Hauntie- Mason was kind of stunned the whole day. Being the second child and only turning 2 he was amazed by it all- the gifts, the cake etc. He got very excited because he recognized his letter M on the cake. I expected a WOW when he saw it but he was speechless, looking around the room while everyone sang to him, but he blew out the candles all on his own. When I was putting him to bed I asked what his favorite part of the day was and he said " big tractor cake- and yummy in my tummy." Seriously- it's what he said, lol!
-
That is so cute, and I think the inside of the cake looks even better! Glad your little guy had such a great day. Nice to hear the BCO girls had a nice lunch too.
Was over bil's for my niece's 8th birthday today. We also had salad, pizza and cake. It was so sad though, my nephew (he's six) has celiac disease and can't eat gluten. They had one regular carvel ice cream cake and a special little one for my nephew. The little one was supposed to just have rainbow sprinkles in the middle, none of the chocolate crunchy things which he can't eat. When my bil cut the little cake, it had the chocolate crunches in it and my nephew couldn't have any. He was so sad. I don't think I will ever buy a carvel cake again. My nephew just got diagnosed and can't even eat any food which has come into contact with any gluten. It makes me mad to think about it. -
Laurie- Ok, now I want some cake, that looks so yummmmmy!!!
Michelle- Your right, it is pretty lean. I decided to have a piece anyway, and didn't put the dijon cream sauce i made over it. Still had my fish though i love it and could eat it several times a week.
Kay-Ohhhh, that is terrible and your right, so sad! He's so young and probably dosn't understand completely why he cant have it? Dang it!!
Did a gazzillion christmas cards tonight and i have writers cramp so bad.
-
that is one gorgeous cake.
today i need to decorate the hand cut from the back field tree... who knows what is for dinner.
-
We should have gone over Laurie's for dessert, LOL.
-
I'm cooking lunch at the Senior Center again today. Making the upside down pizza again.
-
boy kaye - so sorry about your nephew.. he must have been devastated
-
I'd love to join this group so here goes:
Tonight I'm unable to cook dinner because I've put my back out so it's Chinese take-away for us (and some valium on the side for me). The Chinese will include Chicken chop suey and Crispy Beef.
-
Welcome, Lifelover! We ate dinner in Boston's Chinatown last Friday night and had lobster sauteed with ginger and scallions and beef sauteed with peppers, onions and pineapple. When Chinese is good, it's really good. Sometimes, though, you find some really crummy stuff!!!
-
Hi Lifelover and welcome- Sorry about your back ;-(( I lvoe chinese food!
Michelle- Hope you have easy day traveling for rads!
Chabba- MMM pizza!
Joyce- You have a great day too!!
Off to do more shopping, Im actually enjoying it more this year this last year! Maybe because I feel better!
-
Laurie........great cake..........................
-
Kay- That is just awful that your nephew couldn' eat his birthday cake. So heartbreaking
I hope they found him a special treat today.
Welcome lifelover! enjoy your Chinese food. I love it- but it hates me. But I'll keep trying, lol!
Deb- You should have come here for dessert!
Debbie- I hope you had fun shopping today.
Apple- I hope your tree turned out great and you had fun doing it.
I am thinking left over lasagna is on the menu for tonight. Can't get much easier than that. My oldest is getting a cold again so we stayed in today and kept to ourselves. We made Christmas ornaments from stuff I got at the craft store. It went pretty well, nothing got broken, lol!
-
The downside of a Thanksgiving trip to IL with DH. Coming home with 5.5 extra lbs.
It wasn't just Thanksgiving day. We went to Chicagoland for the weekend following Thanksgiving. Got our hot dog fix at Portillo's. Had Chicago pizza at a 2nd family get-together.
Tonight we're having halibut and steamed yellow squash and probably a spinach salad.
The weight used to fall off so easily. Not any more. Age and arimidex.
-
I'm sorry Lifelover.. Chinese takeout doesn't count
just kidding
..and welcome to the best thread ever on the internet. Best of luck with your back!
-
Welcome life lover! Was home alone for dinner and had oatmeal. I am not saying what I had for dessert though.
-
Kay~ Lol- now you HAVE to tell!
-
LOL, I raided my DD's Halloween candy. It's her own fault for not finishing it yet. I had licorice, twix bar, Heath bar and snickers bar, but they were mini ones. Now I am finally full. Good thing I had that cholesterol test last week.
-
Kay- thats not so bad, infact it sounds good- I may raid my kids candy tonight too ;P
-
To all....
I'm just impressed that your kids still 'have' Halloween candy to dip in to!! Back when I was a kid, other than a stray tootsie roll, there was nothing to snitch past the first week! Oh my! -
LOL, Kay!!!
We're back from rads #4, had a great trip in and out. We came home and had grilled cheese and tomato soup for supper! That might be the first time in decades!
Joyce - we'll have to go with you next year, that's a great event at T-Bones!
Carolehalston - one of the salesguys that my DH supports sent us some famous Chicago pizzas a few years ago. They were really good! Someone else sent us the famous cheesecakes. Now those we mostly gave away as I am diabetic and just didn't need to eat much of that! I think there was 25 pounds of cheesecake, at least!!!
