estrogen in all things
I have wrote before about soy but now learning that parabens in most all make up and lotions,
is an estrogen producer! There are so many things that produce estrogen. This is really upsetting to me. No way you can stop them all.
Does your Drs say anything about the paraben and also boron is a big producer in calcium.
Thanks

My docs have not said anything. I am trying very hard to avoid as much of the parabens, bad chemicals, BPA, etc....in foods and body care products. It is really hard...it's in almost everything!

bar, the most recent research doesn't support soy being a problem for us -- with the one exception of soy protein isolate (soy protein powder), which is concentrated soy. The integrative specialist @ UCLA and many other doctors actually teach that natural soy foods like tofu, edaname and soy milk are good for us in moderation. Here's a link to an article explaining the most recent research study:

As far as cosmetics go, are you familiar with this website?
You can look up and compare just about any cosmetic or hair care item out there for their contents and safety rating. Deanna

bar, When I asked my BS about parabens and other suspected chemicals, she said that right now there isn't evidence that proves the link between them and BC. Of course, no one knows the exact causes of cancer, so her answer doesn't mean they are OK. Like others, I've chosen to use natural cosmetics and also to avoid BPA as much as possible. For me, these were little projects. i.e. find canned foods that are BPA-free, get a coffee maker w/ no plastic, etc. But aside from a little legwork upfront, the switch has been a snap. (I also like the website that Deanna mentioned).

Just wanted to add that some people avoid soy as much because they're GMO and/or heavily sprayed with herbicides and pesticides. I think that's more of a concern than the phytoestrogen fear. Some soy byproducts (i.e. soy lecithin, soybean oil) might be especially toxic because of the way their produced -- basically from leftover sludge, or so I've read. If you choose to eat soy foods, organic is probably a wise choice. Deanna

Hi. When I asked my onco about parabens, he said that the scientific evidence isn't there yet. He told me not to become obsessive about it, but if i do have a choice of choosing paraben free, to do it. So, I look for most personal care items....like shampoo, make-up and lotions, to be paraben free. Some good brands are the "Say Yes to (carrots, blueberries, cucumbers, etc) line and Bert's Bees. Oh and other ingredients to stay away from if your BC is hormone recepter positive are lavender and tea tree oil..

Deanna, thanks for posting this:

I'm eating organic as much as possible but sometimes if I have to compromise I refer to the EWG cheatsheet. I can't remember seeing soy listed anywhere, not even their complete list (which also omits other things, like wheat. Guess it's hard for them to do it all).

Thanks to all of you for the info... I was told soy lecithin and oil were fine..just not protein or nuggets..I am going to chill for awhile on this.. I can only try to avoid what i can..I am headed to Caribbean for vac...

Get this, my RO prescribed a cream for radiation burn that contains parabens. Read ALL labels!
-
Stage 1... so what did she say when you found out there was parabens in it?
-
She said that the study for parabens is just "theory" and not proven. So I could not get my money back from the pharmacy. Three huge tubes of Biotein...spelling might be wrong..I put it in the garbage. Then toward the end of rads, I was blistering and again she prescribed some ointment with parabens in it again. I checked at the pharmacy, declined to buy it, and found out later that Neosporin, over the counter works just as well. I have found out through my experiences that no one really cares about us, unless they have had this disease. I would have liked to tell her, "Would YOU use this if you have ER+ breast cancer?"

I mostly use organic creams. They cost a little more, but they are supposely good food for your skin. I stay away from parabens just because they are bad for you. I've read that what we put into our skin goes into our blood and organs. I stay away from soy because it's bad for the thyroid. I've read (not sure of the source, sorry) that there are good estrogens and bad estrogens. My question ... Cancer attracted more to the bad estrogens or both? I should research this
-
evebarry, I am just staying away from any pytoestrogens, and any estrogens, topical or foods. I am not a scientist, so the studies are difficult to read. Even doctors cannot determine what the studies say, as I hear from doctors that studies are "inconclusive"...unless tested on humans.. and that is rare.

I have switched most of my cosmetics to Origins. They use no parabens in their products. I have switched my lotion to Curel which has no parabens. It's very difficult to avoid all the things that we shouldn't use! Going out to dinner tonight with a club I belong to. They picked Mexican, I am avoiding white flour, sugar, soy, alcohol etc. What am I supposed to eat?? And no Margarita!
-
I am to the point with so much unknown to just simply LIVE.otherwise what is the point anyhow. .Wil try to do the best I can. I enjoy a beer and and am going to have it..
also no parabens in st Ives lotion.
Also don't understand my estrogen(from fsh) is so low.. so why is BC because of it?
-
We don't know all the answers. But in reading all the labels, I will avoid what I can. I think the intake of a lot of these additives adds up, with the amount of products we use and food we eat. I think it is something about hormone "imbalance".
I have a margarita or beer once in a while, when we go out. We can't know what is in our food when eating out, either, so I just get back on track the rest of the week.
