Hi I am 33 and have had this lump in my breast for about a year. It started out as a pea size and now a golf ball. The breast always hurt more some times than other. I just had a mammogram and ultrasound and both they couldn't see anything. Now I have to go see a sergon guess I'm asking had this happen to anyone else and what was the results. Why would I have this lump and not be seen in either test. Could it still come it cancer the Dr said he could rule out cyst and infection in the milk glands.

I am not an expert, but it could be alot of different things, thats why it can be hard for young women to get correctly diagnosed.  Between our boobs being dense for the mammograms and ultrasounds to read (extra cloudy if you have recently breastfed) and all the things it "should be" its difficult to say.  That being said there are a few other types of tests that can be done to rule out cancer, such as an MRI, CT scan and PET scan.

When you say they couldn't see anything, does that mean they didn't see anything alarming or cancer like where you lump is located or the scans were just too dense with young tissue?  Most lumps are normal so try to push away the deep dark thoughts. Also, at this point if your insurance allows you can always go to another hospital (an NCI rated one) if you haven't been and get a second opinion.  Good luck, hopefully someone will know more.
