So...whats for dinner?

Aquaphor is what my RO gave me too. Worked very well.
-
Aquaphor is the best.. you can practically eat it.. it has so few perfume ingredients. it's very dense and really not any more expensive that the creamy other perfumed creams.
i love it..
-
Thanks all for your suggestions! Aquaphor was on a list of approved creams. But the list also included Moisturel, which I have been using as a facial cream for 20 years. I've got a big tub of it and I started slathering it on last week. it's also unscented and thick like vaseline, but white. My only challenge is that it's no longer in local stores. I bought it at the drugstore or WalMart for a long time. But the last five years I've had to order it online from Amazon.
I have really dry sensitive skin and this stuff has kept me "flake-free" and it works anywhere on my body that needs extra attention.
-
Michelle Good luck with your radiation, it will go fast, but yes a pain in the butt going every day. Maybe have your driver just drive around the block a few times instead of parking LOL since it only takes a few minutes.
Aquaphor for me too, be careful though it will stain your shirts, leave a greasy mark.
Saw the PS yesterday to make plans for nipple and tats, he doesnt like to do anything with the skin until 6 months out from radiation, so in March I will get some fat grafting done and nipple. My new foob shrunk a little after rads, so I am a little lopsided, not much but my shirts pull to that side and it bothers me. He will take the fat from my side hip area where there is a little dog ear from surgery.
Oh for dinner...I dont have a clue...I cleaned out the fridge yesterday of all leftovers.
-
i guess it's the mixican casserole tonite
.
(LuvRVing - in all fairness I was a pro chef for a decade.. a trillion hours of sauces, quiches, trout, chicken breasts and desserts).
-
I was an aquaphor girl too, and it worked well for me too. When I got very red, the RO nurse mixed me up a concoction of lidocaine and aquaphor which really helped any tender areas.
Carrie, Good luck with your appointment! Did you have DIEP before rads too? So far I am the only one I know who did. I also was told to wait six months from rads before I could get a nipple. I see the PS on Monday, not sure why, I guess she wants to see how the foob fared through rads. As red as it was, it never peeled or blistered and the color is returning to normal. I think it may have shrunk a little as well too. But I think it was a little bigger than the other to start with, so maybe that is a good thing.
We are having vegetarian chilli tonight, just took it out of the freezer and need to heat it up. Love that! Was at the LE therapist just a short while ago and with the end of rads, my arm has lost a lot of the swelling, so very good news there.
Have a great day everyone.
-
Kay, yes I had the deip, my appt was to discuss finishing up with the nipple and tats but now I guess we are going to do the fat grafting and he will do the nipple part at that time. they called today and set the surgery for march 19, seems like a long ways off. The PS said he liked the way the radiation made my scars so smooth...who knew there was a positive to rads?
Made a meatloaf because I am feeling very non-creative....will have some mashed potatos and some kind of veggie.
-
Good luck with it. It will be here before you know it. I guess my next step will probably be in May. My PS also said at least six months after rads. I know so little about it. What is fat grafting? Is your PS going to take some fat from some place and make your foob bigger? I think it is wonderful that some PS will do so much additional work to get things perfect. I really don't want any more surgery other than getting a nipple though. I go on Monday to see my PS, am curious what she'll say and recommend. Meat loaf and mashed potatoes sounds good.
-
Michelle- Dont you just hate when you love a product and then you cant get it any more? Makes me so mad, l love max factor pan make-up and you cant buy it in the united states any more, so i have to buy it on ebay. Hope things go well for you today!
Carrie- l did the same thing, got rid of everything in my fridge yesterday.
Kay-Chili sounds good to as well as the meatloaf carrie is making
Im making speghitti carbonara for dinner it is so easy and i love it, i saute up some bacon or panchetta, onions, and garlic, meanwhile cook the pasta according to directions, drain, but reserve about a half cup of the pasta water, i take about 4 eggs and beat with a fork real well in a bowl, then add a lot of parmesan cheese to the eggs and mix real well together, add the pasta back in pan off heat, add the hot, drained bacon, onion, and garlic, and then add the yolk mixture, mixing really well, for maybe a couple of minutes until it looks creamy, add more parm if you want and if too thick add a little of the reserved pasta water, making garlic bread and spinach salad with a poppyseed dressing.

Same here, Aquafour, I didn't see any side effects until around the 15th treatment for a red head I thought I would burn and blister but all I received was what appeared to be is a sunburn. I have had really bad sunburns as a teenager by putting baby oil on and lying in the sun for an hour. I did get foliculitis which is just a slight irritation of the hair follicles.
Getting undressed and dressed took longer than the treatment. LOL
-
Deb- Sounds lke me, i use to later up with baby oil and lay out for hours every day, its probably why my skin looks older than i'm. Used to get the worst sunburns so i always worry about skin cancer.

Congrats on the port removals. I kept mine for 5 YEARS post chemo. Having blood drawn ,before I got it, was so difficult that I didn't want to give it up. I also wanted to wait until I felt "safe". Sometimes I really wish I still had it; especially with the surgeries I've had this year. Every IV has been a problem. It's such a problem finding a vein to start an IV that they actually used my port to put me out during the surgery where they took the port out and did some scar revision. Once I was out, they poked around until they found a vein and didn't have to listen to me bitch and moan.
Re nipple tattoos. I haven't had reconstruction, but my BS sends her patients to a tattoo artist. She's found that the results are much better. The hospital won't provide the PS with the variety of colored inks necessary to get the kind of result a tattoo artist can. They do these tattoos that appear 3 dimensional. I've seen some on line that are amazing. Not sure if insurance will cover it, but just thought I'd pass along the info.

Hi all! Back from #2, my DD took me tonight. We stopped for dinner on the way home because she had come straight from work. The drive in was ugly tonight - might have been traffic heading to the tree lighting ceremony that was to start at 7. We ended up getting in to the parking garage at 6:58 and we were paying for the parking at 7:27. The techs were waiting for me, I suspect I'm always the last patient of the day. The ride home was smooth sailing, we stopped at an Italian restaurant for shrimp and grilled veggie salad and a thin crust margharite pizza - pretty good.
Hauntie - I tried to get the nurses to use my port when I had surgery to have my TEs removed and they wouldn't do it...some excuse about leaving anesthesia in the line, which made no sense as I was finished with chemo. I've heard about the 3D nipple tattoos, which is what I will probably do when I get to that point.
I like to tan and I've had my share of sunburns, although nothing really severe and I've been way more careful the last 20 years or so. I did the baby oil and I remember Bain D' Soleil - the orange greasy stuff.
I'll keep the Aquaphor in mind if the Moisturel doesn't do the trick. It doesn't leave grease stains, which is an advantage assuming it works. I guess I'll know in a week or so.
-
Michelle,
Glad to hear you are back after round 2!!!
I remember the Bain D' Soleil as well!! We also did the baby oil with a small bit of iodine mixed in! That and laying out in the sun for hours.... Yikes!
I still don't shun the sun but try to use some protection when I do... Long ago took a bit of advice from my great aunt (who had simply gorgeous skin) to always use a good daily moisturizer on your face and also use a good sun-block!
Time will tell if it works but, she was a very beautiful woman who looked far younger than her years! -
Michelle- I am glad so far so good with rads, sorry your trip today took longer. But- it sounds like you had a nice time with your DD. Do you get a break at all with Christmas?
Debbie- I might try your recipe this week, how much bacon? I bought bacon at the request of my DH this week. I think I'll save some to try the recipe, he wants some for breakfast one morning this weekend.
Nipple tattoos- I have them done by the PS, and I wish I would have gone to an artist instead. I go see the PS again in a few weeks to see if he can touch them up or if I want to travel to one of the good artists down south. I don't think I have it in me to go all that way just for tattoos.
Meatloaf- LOL! That is why I made it the other night, easy- out of ideas and comfort food!
Apple- I drool a bit when you talk about your bread. I wish I could pop by and get a mouthfull, well actually a few pieces
Things have been so busy around here. Getting ready for Christmas, we are celebrating my sons birthday this weekend and we are getting into party time. We went to my DH's work tonight for the kids party. It is awesome. They have chicken tenders and hot dogs for dinner with chips, cookie decorating, ornament making and Santa. Every kid gets a gift and mine were so excited! My youngest about to turn two said no to Santa but when he saw the other kids doing it he was ready to go, it was very sweet. We weren't going to make him do it and my older son said he's go with him but to quote my youngest " no Jakey- me do it with Santa- stay."
A great night and I didn't cook dinner
-
Michelle- Sorry the drive was so hectic going for you, we are counting down the days for you,
Seaside- I did the iodine too LOL! but we looked good then didnt we LOL!
Laurie-Happy Birthday to your son! they sure grow up fast dont they! Cute story about your son and santa haha!
Depends on how much speghitti you are using but for your family maybe use about 4- 6 slices, i have also made it without the bacon and its still yummy!
My DD had real nipples put on hers and they look so real, dont know how much more difficult this is but i think they took it from her buttocks.
-
Laurie - happy birthday to your little one! The only breaks I get from the daily zap sessions are the Mondays after Christmas and New Years. Right now I wish there was no break, although I may very well change my mind by that time and be glad to give my skin an extra day to recover. I have recruited both my sons to take a night driving...one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. My college daughter will drive again as soon as she is finished with school - on or around the 22nd. So DH will get frequent breaks, which is good.
I am not sure I want "real" nipples as the 3D variety will probably let me go bra-less. I still have plenty of time for that decision.
-
I am all for the 3-D tatoos, just not sure how I feel about a tatoo artist seeing my fake boob. My PS employs a tatoo artist that comes to the office...I think its a female. But that is a long way down the road.
Kay, I am no too thrilled of having more surgery either because anesthesia makes me sooo sick, and I really dont mind the one boob being a bit smaller, but my shirts all shift to one side and I am constantly pulling them back to center....drives me crazy! Does anyone's shirts do that?
Laurie Happy birthday to your son, your kids are so cute! Tell us about the tatoos...did it hurt to get them...and personal question, you dont have to answer , what does your husband think? At 53 I feel like I shouldnt be too fussy, I think my modeling days are over ha ha!
Debbie I am going to try the pasta, my girlfriend was telling me she made it last week and loved it, and so easy. My husband thinks the only way to eat pasta is with sauce, so he will probably head to the pantry and get a jar and add it.
-
Carrie- I had the nips done, and they have shrunk to almost nothing, almost completely flat and they were huge to start out with. But he warned me that I "didn't have much to work with." I didn't do the areola grafting and had the PS do the tats- they are way too dark- it looks like pepperoni. I don't care for them but am going to try and lighten them up. My DH thinks I look good, but keep in mind where we are in life right now. Two young kids, the house, his work etc we are always exhausted. We call this the working years. He does love that I wear lower cut tops now that they are a lot smaller and higher. lol!
-
Just got back from my follow up onco appt. Bone Density is normal, blood work is stable. Nothing exciting. She did her usual breast exam by pushing down so hard I feel she is trying to feel my rib cage, LOL. She is thorough.
-
My co-pay for Rads each day was $40.00...........................this year I got a notice that it is going up to $60.00..................I'm sorry that is outrageous......................by the time I was done it was over $1,500. for the treatments, plus having to go for LE treatments 3 times a week, which was another $40.00 co-pay each time I went so at times each week it was cosing "out of pocket" $320.00 a week.....................plus all the LE supplies, and my son gave the "valet guy", who was so nice..............$5.00 each time we went...............so it can get expensive
Some people pay nothing, but I guess that is a different type of plan..............I have an excellent plan, but some things have a higher co-pay.
Well that is behind me now, so I can just relax, and get soaked for my Femara..........hahahaha
-
Carrie- If your DH likes a creamy white sauce then he may like this, it does look more creamy and like a white sauce.
Deb- Glad your test came back normal
Well, it is margaritta night! Yahooooo!
-
Ducky, it's not that my insurance didn't have a copay for rads; it's that the cancer center (UPenn) didn't charge it. They could have. My coworker had rads at Crozer Chester, and they also enforced the copay. I have the same insurance she has. It sure does add up. I was very grateful for that.
I have a $30 copay, and it seems like most of the people at chemo had lower copayments. $40 sure adds up. It's not just the uninsured who have problems with medical bills. Even some with insurance can't afford treatment. It's ridiculous. Sorry, getting off the soap box now. -
Deb great news! So glad everything went well. I hope it gives you some peace of mind for tonight.
Debbie- Enjoy your margaritas!
Kay- I couldn't agree more about co pays- if someone has rads for 30 rounds at 40 dollars a pop thats 1200 bucks, INSANE!
So, I just put a lasagna in the oven and we'll have that with garlic bread and garden salad. I am looking forward to it!
-
Michelle- Hope your rads went smoothly tonight and you got in and out quickly.
-
Michelle- Same here, hope all went well today and you didnt have to fight the nasty traffic today! Big Hugs!!!
-
Laurie I remember those days, with kids and work and never having a moment to ourselves then the kids grow up and we are empty nesters starting to reconnect and have fun again and WHAM I get cancer.
That is insane to charge everyday a co-pay for radiation, I did not have a co-pay for those visits. I agree, even with good insurance, medical costs can break you.
Going out to get a bite to eat and a cold beer.
-
yummy beef stroganoff.
see ya
-
Speaking of co-pays - out of curiosity I just added up my out of pocket medical expenses for the year. It's over $5,000. The co-pay for my 2 day hospital stay for my prophylactic mx was $700. Because I changed insurance, I had to pay my in network ($250) and out of network ($400) deductable twice in 2011, because our insurance changes take effect July 1 and not Jan 1 when the insurance commission starts their year. The town I worked for changed our insurance plan 2 years ago, saving the town hundreds of thousands of dollars, but costing it's employees hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars in additional deductables and co-pays.
-
My onc moved and it just so happens she is located in the same building that I had my rads in. Haven't seen that building in over 4 years. Boy did it change they are always reconstructing it. It is in Winchester on Washington St. Opened up 4 yrs ago, I was one of there first rads patient. Sad though, my RO was dx with ALS and is in hospice right now. He was such a nice doctor.
