Okay, I am having a brain fart or just don't know.  What is a podcast?  I feel like I should know this, but don't.

Well......I ended up in the ER again.  Another infection.  Long story short.  After 10 hours in the ER because there wasn't a bed available on the Hem-Onc floor the doctor agreed to let me go home with antibiotics.  I had three given to me in the ER, they had my blood, cultures x-rays and urine.  I promised if they saw something call me and I would come back and be admitted to the hospital. So far, so good.  I think it was a choice to come home and the hospital not having a bed was a good thing (this time).

    Funny story

I have mastered the art of falling asleep anywhere.  I fall asleep at the table reading, usually face first into the paper or book, in my bed bent in half over the book or paper.  I can fall asleep standing in line, sitting and in the middle of a conversation. It is pretty funny.  It's from lack of sleep and the meds or both.  Anyway, Wed was chemo day this week and I had had a bad night along with some pain from the neupogen shots I had gotten earlier in week to bring up my counts so I could have chemo.  I was tired and had taken pain meds, not a good combo.  After chemo mom and I decided to stop for lunch.  And.......while talking to her at the table waiting on our meal I closed my eyes and fell asleep off and on in about 30 second intervals (according to mom), would then wake and continue the conversation as usual.  At one point mom laughed and said if the waitress walked up she would tell them I'm praying.  Well, I fell asleep, the waitress walked up and looked at my mom and said "is she meditating?  She was serious, not trying to make a funny, dead serious.  I heard her opened my eyes and said something about being tired.  Mom and I laughed so hard.  It was just too funny.  Hope I made you smile or laugh.  Jenn

Great story Jenn! That can be a useful skill to have!

So sorry you ended up in the ER again. Let's hope the antiobiotics do their work quickly.

A podcast is something you can download off the internet. Some are just audio, some are audio-visual. Lots of radio shows are made available as podcasts once the show has aired. So you can think of it as a show that you can download and listen to at your own convenience. Some podcasts are just someone sitting in fornt of a microphone just rambling on about whatever they feel like talking about! Hope that helps a little. My friend and I set about creating a podcast without ever having listened to one. You can imagine how much we have to learn!

Gilly -- I love it.  I'm sure you'll make some great podcasts with your friend!

Jenn -- ugh on the trip to the ER but yay on getting to come home (though 10 hours in the ER is a bit much)!  Love the story about falling asleep at lunch and the waitress... I'm impressed that you could sleep then wake and continue the conversation where you left off!

Gill - thank you for the explanation of a pod cast, which I now know, or should I say knew, but the brain bubble got in the way.

I had an uneventful weekend, which I think in my world is a good thing now a days.  I may be taking a short road trip with my sister and mom up the Natchez Trace. A small road trip to get out of the house.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Jenn - I was catching up on posts and was so delighted that you were feeling so good...then sad to see you were in the hospital again.  Glad you are better now.  I'm thinking your talent for falling asleep could be put to really good use...catch some z's when listening to a bore,  make good use of traffic lights,  etc.   Try to stay awake for your road trip!

Gill - I hope the podcast goes really, really well.  Can we get it?  I had a big problem with my tomatos this year.  I didn't string them up well enough and all the big tomatoes formed on the ground.  Which made them easily accessible to the snails.  So bye, bye tomatoes!  Hello really fat snails!

Hello August Amazons....Just checking in to see how everybody is doing.  Luckily, I have nothing new to report.  My latest exam and PET scan (for pain in right hip) are all clear.  I am trying to get on with life and stop being such a worrywort.  It is a thin line between being vigilant and being paranoid.  But I have taken to the gratitude theory.  Everyday I am able to wake up and get my feet on the ground is a good day and I am thankful for it.

I think of all of you often and keep hoping for a cure.

I like your comment about the thin line between being vigilant and being paranoid, Navy. This is so tough for us all. Unfortunately I have no advice. I try to tell myself that worrying doesn't change anything, but...

Thnaks Patty - the podcast is going slowly as there is so much to learn every step of the way. We were hoping to start "publishing" (I need to know what the correct word is) in December, but realistically it will be January.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

When I finished Herceptin I freaked out a little... after a year I was no longer actively fighting the cancer with a treatment.  I told my Oncologist how I felt worried all the time that it would come back and she advised me to only worry when I see her.  Amazingly, this has worked for me.  I do what I can with diet/lifestyle to be healthy... but I really don't worry and put myself in my doctor's hands.  She runs her tests (really just blood tests now) and does her exams... and I don't really think about it much other than that.  I figure if I recur I recur and there isn't a lot to be done after all that has already been done; so it's a matter of hoping for the best.

Gilly -- I think it's called "release" because you are releasing it into public view (like the way an ablum is "released" for public consumption).  Although technically it's also publishing.

Jenn -- how are YOU doing?  You have all of our thoughts and prayers with you (speaking of recurrence).

I have to admit that I've pretty much stopped worrying.  I figure I'll do what I can to stay healthy and if it pops up again I'll face it then.   I do like your Onc's advice though, Lilah.

Is the stomach bug going around where you guys are?  Gross story...but I was driving the 10th grader to school when I suddenly felt really hot.  Then I started to feel  queasy and just as I said "I think I'm going to throw up"  I did.  All over my lap in the middle of traffic.  When I finally got to the curb and could stop, DS said "I think I'll just walk the rest of the way to school".  Excellent choice on his part.  I went home, hit the sofa and by late afternoon felt fine again. Oh...and I've had the inside of the car detailed!  DS made me listen to Eminem's song "Puke".  Funny.

Ditto Lilah.  How are you doing Jenn?

Thank you all.  I am doing fine.  I am having some swelling in my knees, calves and feet that I'm concerned about.  My ankles and feet swell up so big they look deformed and it does hurt if I'm on my feet too long.  They also hurt to be touched.  My sister was massaging my feet, ankles and legs in an upward motion, but had to be very gentle because it felt like she was pressing into a really bad bruise.  It started a few weeks ago, but nothing like it is now.  It's gotten much worse over the last week or so.  I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow before chemo and will talk to him about it and I'll let you know what he says.

My sister and I did not take the road trip up the Natchez Trace.  I was having withdrawal symptoms and felt the need to see DD#2.  So we left Thurs, stayed until Sunday and drove back home.  I had a wonderful visit.  We hung out, laughed, went to the movies (to see Courageous), went shopping, ate out for lunch and/or dinner and also took DD#2 to the grocery to fill up her fridge. I wasn't crazy about the movie, actually fell asleep, but DD#2 and my sister liked it.  My sister LOVED it.  I sure wish I liked the same movies as my sister, it would make things so much easier on us.

I don't mind y'all talking about the possibility of recurrance or the fears that you have living your life as a cancer patient.  It's all part of what we go through, so please don't feel like you can't discuss it because of where I am in this battle.  After my treatment if my toe hurt I thought it was a recurrance.  It was nuts!!!  I'm normally not a big worrier, but this whole cancer thing made or makes me crazy.  I understand what you're feeling.

(((HUGS)))) to all of you.  Jenn

    Jenn you are amazing.

Hope the swelling goes down.  Might be a side effect of something you're taking (I remember a friend's mom once had similar swelling from pregnozone).  SO glad you had a nice visit with your daughter and LOL about you and your sister liking different movies.  I haven't seen Courageous (not sure I will either)... I'm personally looking forward to Hugo!

Jenn you are truly a amazing woman, your strenght in this fight is one to look up to.

Glad you went and spent time with your daughter and had a great visit. I wish you a speedy recovery from all the swelling

I wish all you wonderful strong women a very Happy Thanksgiving.

My mom and I sat down last weekend and made out our menu for the holiday dinner and I think we will have lots to do. Mom has been sick so she finally went to the dr and she has broncitis and a sinus infection. He put her on a Cpak and hopefully it will do the job. The senior housing didnt work out for her, apparently she makes to much money.. LOL get this they actually said to her that sence SS is getting a increase this new year they are accounting for that even though we are only in 2011. ??? What??? She was over the limit allow to be made by $150.00. Yup you gessed it, its her increase that put her over..

Again I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy the time with your family and friends!

I spoke to the onc about the swelling, he seemed somewhat concerned but not overly concerned.  Before seeing my bloodwork he thought maybe something to do with the liver and my proteins, but that wasn't it, my liver numbers are perfect.  He thought maybe clot, but usually clots don't cause swelling evenly in both legs.  Soooooo for now it's a wait and see approach.  I did decide to try wearing my compression socks that I had from my achilles surgery all day while I'm awake and it does the trick.  My legs and feet don't hurt, zero pain and the swelling is almost completely gone, to someone not knowing what is normal for me they don't look swollen.  So for now, compression socks it is.  I'm still having a lot of pain free days.  In all honesty, if it weren't for treatment and the thinning of my hair I don't feel like a cancer patient.  I feel normal.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and if I forget to come by - HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!!!!!!

So glad the socks are easing things up for you Jenn (and also that they don't think its a clot).  Clearly something going on with your circulation though... did the doctor think it could be a side effect from anything you're taking?  Anyway I hope it goes completely AWAY!

And thanks and same to you: have a wonderful holiday!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  We had the family over, including my daughter's fiance and future in-laws.  All went well.  Today we're getting ready to do a Christmas makeover on the house and hopefully be done by Sunday.

I finally read the reviews on Hugo and can't wait to see it.  I'm hoping next week or so when DD#2 comes home from college (for good) for the holidays.  There is also an animated a kid movie I want to see about Santa's clumsy son.  I think I'll see about taking my neices and nephews.  DD#2 wants to see the one with George Clooney, which we may go see this evening.

Have a great weekend and may your football teams win, that is unless they play the Saints Cool

Gosh Jenn - big crowd for Thanksgiving! Hope you had lots of kitchen help! Very quiet here - just the four of us. We usually go over to friends for Thanksgiving, and they come to us for Christmas dinner. But this year they went to Oregon where their daughter is in college as she didn't have enough time off to come home. They are both university profs so can have the whole week.

It was roast beef and yorkshire pud for this not very traditional family, followed by trifle!

I am "spring" cleaning a couple of bedrooms as our son who still (!) lives with us is moving rooms as I want a home office now I am home so much.

    Hi to everyone.

Gill - Your quite Thankgiving sounds wonderful and a lot less work.  That was really nice of your friends to go to their daughter so she wouldn't have to be alone for Thanksgiving.  Good luck on your "spring" cleaning.  We are still working on converting the house into Christmas.  The outside is done, the tree is done, now I just need to get the rest of the inside deocorations up.

Happy late Thanksgiving everyone.  I'm so glad you are feeling good Jenn and that the compression socks are taking care of the swellling problem.  Your dinner sounds lovely Gill.

We spent the day with friends and, as is our custom, ordered the turkey dinner and all the fixin's from Marie Callendars.  Sounds very bah humbug, I know, but for those of us who aren't cooks this works out great.  You get a turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, chef's vegetables, yams, cranberry sauce, gravy, cornbread, honey butter, pumpkin pie, whipped cream and even a packet of coffee.   It comes in a festive box.   All you have to do is heat everything up and eat.  The pilgrims should have been so lucky!

I haven't been on the computer much at all lately. Not sure why, just haven't been here much.

I am almost finished with my shopping.  I have a few more things to get, but not much and it feels so good to have this much done.  I would like to bake a few things, but that won't be until the week of Christmas.  I haven't made it to the show in sometime, but DD#2 said she would like to go next week to see a movie or two. DH has been so busy at work that we just haven't had time in the evenings and he's been working on the weekends.  I really like going to the show during the holiday season.  I really want to see Hugo and may have to call my mom or sister to see that one.  Oh well...........  Next weekend my cousin invited me a teddy bear tea at the Roosevelt hotel.  She's taking her youngest son, my godchild and her youngest daughter to the tea.  It really sounds like fun from what she told me of her previous visits and from what I read in the paper.  I'm looking forward to spending some time with my sweet godchild and his wonderful sister.

Penny - You're very welcome and I'm glad to hear your mom is doing well.  If you haven't already decorated your tree I hope that you can gather the troops soon.

Hope everyone is doing well.  Jenn
