Does pain in the area mean it is spreading?

Hi,

Diagnosed with local recurrence on 16/11/2011 and am scheduled for surgery on the 29/11/2011.

I have pains in my chest and am wondering of this means that it is moving / spreading.

How 'fast' does it spread?

    Hi there,

    I wouldn't think it would move or spread quite that fast with IDC, even at grade 3.  I read somewhere it takes several years to move out of the ducts from DCIS to IDC.  I do think it is probably normal to feel some discomfort, especially if you have been getting poked and prodded to find the recurrence.  If it doesn't change, a call to the doctor is not a bad thing just to make sure and relieve your mind.  No matter what, it's a bit shattering, and I'm sorry you are going through this, especially since you were still in treatment.

    Hang in there and let us know how it goes after surgery.

    Generally, breast cancers grow slowly and don't cause pain.  It seems unlikely it would spread in a matter of weeks, so you should be good to go for your surgery later this week.  I think 37Antiques makes a good point about all the extra poking/prodding that you're probably having right now with your recurrence.

    nancyh: be careful with your comment that, "breast cancers grow slowly and don't cause pain".  I think God that my cancerous lump was painful...oh so painful to the touch.  I had bilateral mx January 2011 and now have recurrence between my breasts.  I've had two BB sized bumps removed and pathology confirmed local recurrence of primary IDC. Found 3 more this past weekend and had them removed today.  Cancer CAN be painful and it CAN grow very fast...unfortunately.

    I had dx of Triple Negative BreastCancer, Stage 2,, removed by lumpectomy 4/30/10 and followed by chemo A/C and Taxol and radiation.  I kept complaining of breast pain in the same breast and was told it was scar tissue, nerve regeneration or some such.  A PET scan in Dec 2011 picked up three spots.  Am now waiting results of CT needle biopsy.  Both times cancer has been painful for me.  I wish people would STOP saying, oh, iit can't be cancer if it hurts.

    Has anyone here had mets along the internal mammary chain?  What happened?  Are you OK?

    Hi there - my motto - if in doubt - check it out. I had double mastectomy in Dec 2010 - then chemo & rads for 6 months - thought I was back on my feet swimming and walking but I kept getting discomfort (nothing major though) in my sternum which we thought was from the swimming. My radiologist gave me a very "slight" examination - oh its just scar tissue he said - it was as we later found out recurrence in the sternum and internal mammary nodes - listen to your body is my advice - no one knows it better than you. From now on, I always act for peace of mind - if I'm not happy with the med teams response, I push for more thorough follow through.     Hi miffyjones,

    Thanks for your advice.  I questions absolutely everything and sometimes feel like an annoying worry wart.  But had I not pushed and pushed with the nodule which turned out to be a local recurrence, I would still think that the cancer nodule was an 'unhealed stitch'.

    I had been having pain in my breast before i found out I had cancer, the doctors kept telling me that pain is not an indicator of cancer but when I did the breast mri the place she stuck me at where the pain was is where the cancer was found. I agree with the other ladies to check out any and everything if it's nothing great!! It doesn't hurt anything to check...

    Same here. Triple Neg IDC and DCIS in opposite breasts (contralateral BC) and in both cases they were discovered by me. In fact, the last BC was not detectable by mammo or ultrasound but I could pinpoint it pricisely for them due to pain. It's interesting that many TN cancers are painful...

    Hi  just wanted someones opinion that had pain with bc.

    It was pain that led me to this disease. Now, almost to my 2 years i am having pain just below the collarbone on the same side as my ILC. It was at 11 o'clock on my left breast. It comes and goes at any time.  I have some INFLAMATION going on in my body- rt arm has needle like sharp pains and soreness-off and on, headaches-some feel like a hang over, pain in left flank area and radiates up to waist and around my pelvic bone, not all the time. Blood in my urine.  It is all so strange. I want to know what is going on but no one seems to know.?  Anyone dealing with any of these symptoms?

    Hello, I'm new to this forum.  

    MTKS, With pain all over body, you may have fibromyalgia.   It's ongoing pain, spasms, pain comes and goes... Please see rheumotology. 

    I was diagnoised with severe fibromyalgia (neuropathy peripherical) in 2007, it caused by a side effect of chemo and radiation that I had in 2004-2005 for my stage 2b breast cancer.  I had double mastectomy.  I had new implants in 2009 after bouts with fibromyalgia.   Now I'm having spasms and pain on my rib bone.  Last few weeks, I had ctscan, bone scan and mri.   My onocologist informed that he found spots on the 4th and 5th rib bones.   I'm scheduled for biopsy on 27th, and will see onocologist on Oct 4th.  I'm scared shit, lots of stuff going on my mind, also "C" hanging over my head.   What if I need chemo, and will it make fibromyalgia worse or what?
