My First Ambien

Susan, my friend, that's old news

I'm back to talk about my love of Ambien again
I had to fly cross country last Friday and forgot my special sleep treats. I flew home Sunday (a whirlwind trip to see family and babies who wanted to play with me nonstop). .As I got off my torturous 14 hour (with layover) trip home, I received a text message that my son and DIL had checked into the hospital to give birth to my first grandchild. That meant no Ambien that night either. She was born yesterday and after days of no sleep, I crashed without the Magic A but woke up at 3:30 for good - too late to take anything. Tonight's the night, it's gonna be alright. I'm in love with you (A), ain't nobody gonna stop me now. Sick, ha?
-
Not sick, just very, very poignant, real and honest. You know, from the heart. True love.
-
posting on this thread for the first time. I am taking the smaller dose of Ambien every night, along with a lorazepam. I am down from 3 lorazepam to 2 everyday, and really notice if I miss it. It took me so long to ask for something for the anxiety and restlessness, it wasn't until after the 2nd chemo treatment. I travel for business 3 weeks out of the month and with all the time zone changes the ambien really helps. But I would be worried on the higher dose. My aunt took ambien and noticed that all these packages were arriving from QVC. She was furious and called to say she hadn't ordered anything, but it turns out she did while on ambien. My brother is another story. He woke up one morning eating spaghetti off the floor, and another morning woke up, went into the bathroom, looked in the mirror and realized he had shaved off his beard!
-
So AimeeMac, I am wondering, did these Ambien events with your aunt and brother happen the first time they took it, or after they had been partaking for a while. Cause you really got me thinking now, this could be a really good excuse to do some things I never had the balls to do but really want to...and then I can say, "Oops, sorry, I was on Ambien, I have no memory of that..." Wow, this is only now occurring to me. It's almost like pretending you have Tourette's so you can cuss somebody out in a politically correct manner they can't really be angry about, but oh the possibilities are so wide open. THANK YOU! Now the walrus and I begin our plans...
-
Oh, and what kind of stuff did the walrus have her buy on QVC? Jewelry? Cleaning supplies? I am wondering how his tastes run, as I plan to buy him a Christmas present. At least I know now where to shop.
-
Oh...and Raincitygirl, big congrats on the birth of your grandchild!
-
This thread is full of very naughty women! Celtic and I have never been this outrageous. Hope you all will join us for the second annual slouchfest.Might have to hold an annual ReprobateFest.
Ellie 1959, I am going to pm you. While I am very honored you would like me to be your person that you
track in order to know if you are truly okay, my diagnosis isn't like yours. It is more reassuring if you find somebody with the same diagnosis who is a few years out past you. Actually, you are pretty far out yourself, maybe you could volunteer to be a newbie's person.Either way, I will let you know if I fall off the NED wagon.
It is fascinating to hear about Ambien amnesic adventures. Don't you think the incidence of people leaping off cruise ships in the middle of the night has increased drastically since the advent of Ambien? And some of those bizarre drive-in window episodes at fast food restaurant where customers go nuts in various baroque ways--don't you think that could be Ambien related?
I wonder if people use Ambien amnesia as an alibi in court cases for nocturnal felonies.
Well, Blue, I thought I had you with chlamydia!
-
And Weesa, I thought for sure that herpes would follow, I mean, come on...
Slouchfest, just going by the title alone, sounds like something I could really get into. How does one become involved?
-
Blue cowgirl, I think the QVC shopping and the spaghetti eating happened when they first started, but the beard shaving happened after he had been on it awhile. My MO had told me about patients who got in their cars (but didn't get past their driveway) so for the first week I had my husband hide the keys from me. I think it's all about the dosage really.
Every now and then I think about weaning myself off it, but when I fly from the west coast to the east coast I definitely need to get a good night's sleep for work the next day.
-
Thank you Blue! Slept last night really well. Regarding odd behaviors, I read that was typically with the people who do the CR version....
-
raincitygirl, congrats on the new baby in the family.
I have been on the ambien for several years and still do some silly things I cant remember. On special occasions when I take a xanax with the ambien, it is worse, but so worth it.
bluecowgirl-- I have a small crush on my PS, notice I would never put his name down. He also has a very unique name, so I don't want him to find this post when he googles his name and leave his young and beautiful wife for me. Anyhow, I was scared to death the last time I had surgery that I would say something innapropriate waking up. My husband said that he told him the last thing I said before my exchange surgery was "error big", so he went with bigger implants. My next thing with him is tattoos, I will be awake, but plan on taking a xanax so I can appear to be cool and calm. Of couse the night before will be a ambien and xanax night so I am well rested.

OMG OMG OMG Christine\...Just want to clarify, he who shall not be named is NOT the anasthesiologist. Just want to make that clear. In case you are reading this, he who shall not be named. Yes, you. You the one who shall not be named, you know who you are. It's like the candyman, I am not saying your name again. It is NOT you I find attractive. Oh that sounded wrong...it's not that I find you unattractive...I just don't think of you AT ALL in that way. Just to clarify in case you are a googler of your own name. Kthanks.
-
Did that make any sense at all???
-
Nope
-
Perfect sense, but I think you need a pill. I did realize you where referring to your anesthesia hunk, not he who shall not be named.
-
Too late for you ladies? I took all my pills *except* ambien around midnight, then worked til now. I thought I was doing pretty well. When I got up from my chair, I almost fell down. Managed to stumble up the stairs, pop an Ambien, and now looking forward to dyfunctional family Thanksgiving on waaay too little sleep. I wonder if my work will look nearly as good in the morning as it does now? I will be sure to ask the Walrus' opinion.
Hope my Ambien buddies are all well, sleeping soundly, and not jumping off of any cruise ships. Night-night everyone
-
Wow, Blue, I haven't heard any stories like that from my husband. It would have been interesting though, since my preachers were there..ha ha!
-
hope you all are having a very restful ambien weekend. On my list of what I am thankful for is Ambien and hair! (and of course the walrus too).
-
OMG! I'm crying, I'm laughing so hard at ya'll...LOVE it! I just realized how boring my life is....I need some Ambien
-
jennyboog, I hope you have some? We are all very passionate about our ambien on this thread. I think everyone has slept thru the entire holiday weekend.
-
I think the tryptophan might be in play this weekend for some of us. I was up until 3 am last night though, and hope I can do a little better tonight. I need a walrus visit.
-
I have bronchitis and ear infection from flying next to the woman who wouldn't cover her mouth, even when asked. So last night the question was cough medicine or Ambien. Well I did the cough medicine and tonight, I am returning to my true love, Ambien. At my age, I actually hope I do something crazy (as long as it didn't involve keys).
-
Last night I took my generic 10mg Ambien and 1 mg Ativan....and I slept for about 5 hourss (yeah!!!)...but its not the first time that when I wake up, I am talking and almost having an arguement of some sort related to a dream, that like now, I no longer remember what it is about....even DH hears me...this morning I was ticked off about something and complaining.....and sort of arguing....very weird....The 12.5 CR Ambien really doesn't work anymore....and the combination of the 10mg and ativan seem to work best, but it does something weird to me.....I try not to take it every night, but then I sleep horrible....wake up every hour or 2.....
-
Blue: I love your anesthesia story!
My sister has a good one, too. Her gastro doc is really cute. His last name is something like Krakas. Last time she had a colonoscopy, she told him her kids call him Dr. Crack-Ass. Then she tried to set him up with me on a blind date. The nurses told her about it later.
Ahhh...Demerol & Versed!
-
Where is everyone on this thread? Are you all sleeping?
-
Kate I've been laughing about Dr. Crack-ass for a couple of days. Priceless.
Raincitygirl, I agree a little excitement would be in order for me, too. Sorry about your cold, I hate when people fly sick. Don't they know we are all going to rebreath the same air?? Ack! Don't know where are sleepless sisters are.
I'm happy to report I picked up my new generic ambien CR prescription today and can't wait to try it out. The dose is 6.25 mg instead of 5 mg so I expect good results. Does it kick in as quickly as the regular?
-
Hi to all my happy and well rested friends.
Shelleyj43, hope you love your new ambien. Not sure about how fast the ambien cr works, I am a 10mg name brand only regular ambien fan. Already took mine this evening, just hope I can stay up long enough for the dryer to finish. Hoping to get up early for a 5 am spin class (trying to conteract all those holiday calories).
Haven't seen the walrus lately, missing him.

Hi Ladies,
I am a 6 year breast cancer survivor and never had any problems with sleep until I started chemo and then Armidex and got pushed into menopause at age 42. I started taking Immovane (similar to Ambien in the U.S.) at 7.5mg 5 years ago. I took it every night as my sleep was so interrupted from the Armidex and the shock of being shoved into menopause so suddenly.
I dont want to scare anyone but this is a highly addictive drug and very hard to come off of. I developed a tolerance (became dependant) on the 7.5mg dose and it was taking me longer and longer to go to sleep at night until finally I couldnt fall asleep this past spring even while taking the presribed dose. I went off Armidex in the Spring after my 5 year stint and asked my doctor if she could slowly wean me off the Immovane (sleeping med) and she agreed to compound the prescription into a liquid so that I could reduce slowly every 2 weeks. I tried twice over the course of a few months, lost many, many nights of sleep and my anxiety went through the roof! I ended up having to go onto 10mg of valium to sleep and reduce and eliminate the immmovane. I have not taken immovane in 4 months and am weaning slowly off the valium, I will be completely off it come Spring....its been a long, long haul and not fun at times.
I am only posting this to let you ladies know that sleeping pills are not something that should be taken every night, on a occasional basis would be fine. I just would hate to see anyone have to suffer like I have just to come off a damn sleeping pill!!
Please dont send me hate mail, I just want everyone to be aware of the dangers of this "so called" innocent sleeping pill the way it is marketed is not as innocent as they make it out to be especially after more than a few weeks of use continuously every night. It is only meant to be used short term.

Thank you for the warning Michele, really. I was 43 when all of this happened last year, including the chemopause as you describe. Maybe that is what has caused the insomnia. As soon as I get caught up on about a year's worth of sleep, I plan to wean off. I don't take it every night, I try just taking the nights I really need good sleep, but I must admit, I really love it. I sleep so much better with it. It seems like the only thing that really makes me feel better. I guess with all meds, there are drawbacks...
