Blood Clots

Excuse me if I put this in the wrong section.  Wasn't sure where to put it exactly.

For the past several months I had been having episodes of breathlessness which I put down to asthma or my acid reflux problems.  I had been mentioning that it was getting worse to the nurses at the hospital and my doctor.  They all told me it was probably nothing and if it was serious I would have chest pains.

Last month it finally became so bad I could not even talk without feeling winded, could not walk from room to room in my home without huffing and puffing.  Also I had developed a bad cough.  I went to my family doctor who sent me home with a bottle of cough medicine.  The next day I was on the floor almost unconscious but managed to call an ambulance and after lots of tests I was told I had 2 blood clots on my lung.

When I felt well enough I had a few choice words for the staff at my hospital who listened to me for months going on about breathlessness.  Then the breast nurse tells me that blood clots are quite common in people who have cancer and probably if I did not have cancer I wouldn't have the blood clot and that if I had chest pains they would have taken it more seriously.  Well I almost died without the chest pains and I have even more choice words for my family doctor who sent a lady with 2 blood clots home with a bottle of cough medicine!

Rant over.  But is it true that blood clots are common in cancer patients?
