Hi all,

I have several questions that need your help.

1)  how long will it take to get Mammogram test after a Lumpectomy surgery usually?

2) what foods we should aviod?

3) do we need to switch to organic living include all cosmetics?

Thank you.

I don't understand your first question. Are you asking how soon you should get a mammo after you've had your lumpectomy? Most surgeons want you to get a mammo 6 months after your surgery.

The question of foods and organic living is open to opinion. Some people say yes, others say no. Some women who eat only an organic vegetarian diet get BC. Some who eat a diet of junk food do not get BC. No one knows for sure what causes it, though it's fairly clear that it's a combination of genetics and environment.

It's fairly consistently recommended, though, that you should not smoke, should drink alcohol only sparingly, keep your BMI at a healthy level (between about 18 and 23), avoid highly processed foods, take a Vitamin D supplement, and get some regular exercise.

I've had a number of skin cancers and new ones are found every year, though my sun exposure in the last few decades has been tiny. The problem is that I got a lot of exposure when I was a kid. The cancers are a result of what I did decades ago. It's almost certainly the same with other cancers -- they're a result of genetics and things that happened to us many years ago, maybe even in utero.

    Hi cycle-path,

Thanks for your taking time to help me out and info.

Yes.  I had lumpectomy in August and am scheduled for January's Mammogram and ultrasound test.  and scheduled for MRI on July.  The surgeon wanted me to have a exam every 6 months between mammo and MRI.

I think  mammo in Jan is too soon for me.  Is MRI necessary?

    Thank you very much!

Different doctors seem to want different things, but mine wanted a mammo six months after surgery, an MRI on the one year anniversary of the surgery, another mammo six months after that, and an MRI on the two year anniversary. Basically an alternating mammo/MRI every six months for 2 years.

After that I'm told I'll be back on an annual mammo.
