    Celia,
Thanks so much for all of the info. I have Spenco orthotics in my shoes, but with the faciitis, it hurts to use them, unless I use my "boob heel" of course.
And you do have a point-I am going to shell out whatever I have to to get the best pair of shoes for my feet. I have had this problem since November. My foot started to feel better a month ago, so I started back on my treadmill and only did 10 minutes of aerobics each day, but now the pains are even worse-duh! I know that it is so very important to exercise to incorporate oxygen into my body to help it to heal and fight my Stage 4 cancer, but I have to get this darned foot better first.
I sure hope your back gets much better and we can then chat about how much we are walking again!
    Thanks again!

    Denise--

SPENCO!!!! That was the brand I had for arch supports. Spenco makes all sorts of shoe inserts. They had full-length arch supports and 3/4 length ones. I had the 3/4 length ones that were very firm under the heel and arch and narrowed down to a thin piece of soft foam up towards the toes. They fit very well and were pretty comfortable and started helping me right away. I had had the plantar fasciitis for a year before I knew to do anything about it and I could barely walk by then. I guess it would be difficult to wear them in the acute stage of the fasciitis without the boob deal. I don't remember how I managed with the orthotic and the pain at first.

When you shop for running shoes ask for the ones with the most heel protection and also for the ones that are for stabilizing the heel. They are wider at the bottom of the shoe's heel than at the part of the shoe heel where your own heel is (if that makes any sense--I can draw it better than I can say it!). Also, it is best to try the shoes on with the orthotic in it as some running shoe brands don't have big heel compartments. You probably know all of this but just a reminder.

    Good luck!!!!!!!

Denise - for the oxygen thing without pain, try to get to a pool. I' going again today but will pace myself a little better now that I know I'm NOT in swim shape!

    Denise,
Yes, I know about wanting to get walking. About a year and a half ago I took up swimming and do that just about every day--during the summer I can do that outdoors.

Those cortisone shots aren't all they're cracked up to be. We briefly went over that idea but I dismissed it because you can lose your footpad to the shot, and they're not forever most of the time. Surgery is also out for me--seems too iffy.

I read somewhere that wearing shoes with a heel would help because they take the pressure of walking off the heel. Makes sense. Unfortunately I haven't seen any athletic shoes that have like a 1 inch heel which I think might be about right. Dress shoes-- I can find and wear, but they're just not as comfy. I did see a woman on the plane last week with some Nikes that seemed like one inch. Trouble there is my foot isn't shaped like a Nike!!

I mention some of what I've been through hoping maybe there's an idea there for you. I have hopes that the custom orthotics you ordered will help you like they helped me. I can't figure out why that stopped working.

Walking barefoot and especially on wood floors is hard on us too. Also important is a stable heel to keep your foot from sliding around--so I wonder about the C cup boob heel that slips. Sometimes just tying my shoes tighter stabilizes my foot and lesses the pain.

    Good luck with your walk.

    KariLynn,
Ironically, our local paper had a big article today about the swim aerobics at the gym that I used to have a membership. It does sound great, but I have been trying to have reconstruction for the last year and will still be involved in the recon for several more months. So I won't be able to do any arm exercises for quite awhile.
Meanwhile I hope to lose enough weight so that I don't look too terrible in a swim suit.
    Ginger,
Thanks for the tips. We had our BC support group tonight and 2 of the ladies also have PF and they resorted to custom made orthopedic support pads. So I am going to push for that. The heel thing makes sense, too.
My boob heel doesn't slip as the velcro thingie sticks to my shoe. The shoe just slides up and down, but I can walk in it without pain. I know that it is a temporary fix, but will work until I see a podiatrist.

    Patti,
I started having this breakfast when I was having rads-it really did help to ease the tiredness.
I eat Total Whole Grain cereal with fat free skim milk, and fresh strawberries or blueberries on top. I also have 4 ounces of OJ, and 2 cups of green tea.
    It is boring, but healthy.

Way to go Patti!!! 2.8 is great!

I usually just eat wheat toast and skim milk for breakfast - I know, not a great start but I don't function well in the morning and that's the best I can do! Once a week I have over-easy eggs (no oil - have a great skillet), toast and OJ.

I've really taken to the Breakfast Quesadillas they have on their site (only I eat them for lunch!) I exchange the Canadian bacon for a slice of brown sugar ham and it is yum (unless I burn it like today...)

I've also become a salsa hound - with red and yellow peppers. I buy some refrigerated stuff from Aldi that's pretty tasty.

I have laundry to do too - still have stuff out on the line - it'll have to wait until KU beats OSU! (hopefully...)

    Go KU!!!!

That's so typical of husbands. Mine can cut out french fries at lunch and lose weight in a heartbeat.

I think it's easier to lose when you do have a boring routine diet. You eat your meal and go do something else. When you have all this choice then it's easier to overdo.

    193 today - 2 more gone!!

I really thought this would be the week I didn't lose as I used all but .5 of my weekly allowance (Texas Hold-Em party Sat and birthday party Sun) so am very excited about this!!

Two pounds gone and KU winning the Big 12 Tourney - doesn't get better than that!!

Floss, I've tried all the 'tricks'. I eat a good diet, work out and I still have the belly fat. My Dr. says that that is what lipo is for. I don't want to go that way. I'm 48 and went way into menopause. It's not fair.

Well now that I found this forum , I understand why no one is replying to my weight loss or exercise posts in the Pound forum. I think I have finally found the correct place to post my info. I need to post it to help me be accountable. So I will tell you.

Yesterday at my chemo weigh in I was down from 197.5 to 193.4 and I still had clothes and a prosthesis on. That is 4 pounds in the last two weeks. Of course being 5'3" that means I still have another 40 at least to go but I can do this.

Today I did my PT/LE exercises and did 30 minutes on the treadmill going about 1.4 miles today.

i think i've gained 8 pounds (minimum) since i found my lump less than a month ago. i'm going to keep reading this thread to give me motivation to exercise through the anxiety instead of eating my way through it. i'm getting ridiculous.

please everybody keep it up, so i feel pressure to take it off.

gsg - exercise is a great way to work off stress and research shows recurrance rates are lower in women who walk three hours a week so get moving!

i just took an honest look in the mirror. my face looks real round and i have an additional chin that's bigger than the one under my mouth. i didn't have the nerve to turn around and look from behind. that does it.....if anybody needs me, i'll be downstairs.

Denise glad to see you posting
    how are you doing?

    Hey Kathy and GSG
    welcome aboard...

    ok here goes ..
    I have been faithfully walking
    now for the past week...

    I tried a Boca sausage(soy) on a
light English muffin this am...it was low cal and worth two WW points
    and it was really good!

    I have been eating
    lots of veggies this week
    here's a sample...

    For those who love
    broccoli rabe..try this one...

sauté garlic in a pinch of olive oil
and then add a bit of low fat chicken stock or broth....

Add broccoli rabe and a pinch of salt
sauté and add a bit of lemon zest and a squeeze of the lemon juice....It is so good...I have been doing this with spinach..sting beans and zucchini ..I add cherry tomatoes to the zucchini sometimes for a change..

made a great lentil soup on Friday..full of fiber and very filling..used a wee bit of curry...cardamon...cinnamon...gave it a great flavor..

I have been using yogurt as a thickening agent for some of my recipes...used a wee bit in the lentil soup....

cherry tomatoes ...sauté ....add a bit of olive oil...garlic and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese..yum..yum...if you like calamata olives you can cut a few up for added flavor ...
salsa hound here..I know I have mentioned this before.
    it is great..low cal..has lycopene
    Off for my walk
    I took two walks yesterday
need to get moving..before it rains

    good luck ladies
    xoxo

    Patti,
Good to see your post again. Thanks for asking-I am okay.
Let see-I gained another pound-too many dinners out-a luncheon today and a dinner with friends tomorrow. Then, maybe on Tuesday I can get back on my diet!!!!
Can't exercise yet with the Plantar Faciitis, although I do Pilates every day. Have an appt to get a custom orthopedic insole this week. Spring is coming-I have to get out and walk, but can't.
Chapter 17-still waiting for an appt to get a back expander before my lat flap to finish my recon.
My LE is down and looking good from my daily massages.
My liver is still NED !!!!!!!!
I'm sorry what was the question again???

Ok, gained one this week - weighed in at 192. BOO!!! Oh well, not too long ago I would have killed for that number so will not be discouraged!

I didn't go over points but did a terrible job on how I spent them - too much pop, not enough read food and water. Am back on the water since yesterday - weighed 193 yesterday am!

Will be a little hard this week as we go to Houston but I will persevere! Good luck this week everyone!!!

You've been dropping pretty fast. I think that's probably normal to have your progress slow down a little. Keeping your good habits is important.

    Next week will be better.

Did a great job on exercise yeaterday! Had a lovely walk outside with a friend. Today did 35 minutes on the treadmill.

I wish I could say I felt as good about eating but I can't. I seem to be puttting lots of small things in my mouth. Also had a late breakfast today which didn't help. Hubby made it, ham & eggs.

Back to cereal for me in the AM and soup for lunch or something'

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day

    20 minutes in addition

    to my two walks

    treat for the days when

    Staying focused

    and reminding myself

    I am happy

    for each pound

    lost so far...

    I still have

    a long way to

    go..but I am that much

closer to my goal than I was

in the beginning of this year

    trying

    to eat

    in moderation

    I was not

    in a race to gain

    weight and I will not

be in a race to loose it

    I am trying to

    take things

    a day at a time

and be proud of myself for

    each little ounce lost

    Tomorrow is another day

    if all else fails
