Hi Kari - thank you for your concern. Yes, I think the "bug" I have is a combination of my reaction to Herceptin and having the cold at the same time. My neck is so stiff that I cannot even move my head.It is sort of stuck on the right side. Cannot move it to the left. My cough is subsiding and in general, I feel a lot better than two days ago. I think I will attempt to go to work tomorrow and we'll see if I can do a full day or not. I am still not ready to exercise, though, I really want to. I miss the gym. I hope you all have a pleasant weekend and a lot of moving around.

    Survivor,

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I have a sinus headache, and maybe working on an infection.  I have a doctor appt. on Wednesday, so I will mention it and maybe get some antibiotics if I need them.  I usually do need some help to get rid of these things...  UGH...

Then, on Friday, I see my onc. again....   UGH...

    Harley

P.S...   Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Harley - thank you ! I am feeling a lot better. I still have a stiff neck, and still coughing, but I am getting stronger. I decided to wait going to the gym until I am totally well. I don't want to have a relapse. I did go to work today and was fine. Sorry to hear you on the other hand have a sinus infection. That is so painful. Ouch! Do you think you will be able to wait until Wednesday to get antibiotics? Is the onc you are going to see next week the same onc you have problems with? This is the onc who does nothing, right?

    Survivor,

I think I am doing ok, just keep getting a headache, and can feel the pressure... usually gets worse by the end of the day.

Yes, that is the same onc...  thanks for thinking about me.  He does NOTHING...   I will have to write up questions to ask when I see him, because I have had some things come up and now I can't remember them...  guess I should have kept a log, like another friend of mine does...  she actually writes everything down...  guess I should start keeping a journal...

But what's worse is that my primary care doctor ALSO DOES NOTHING...    ...sigh...

    Glad you are feeling better.

    Hugs

Sadly, I don't even have a primary doctor. Since I had no insurance when I started my bc journey, only medicaid, for which I was thankfully approved before I had my MX, I had no primary doctor to go to. I still don't have one. I consider my onc and my breast surgeon my only doctors. There aren't that many who take medicaid anyway and I can't afford one otherwise.

But, yeah! A note book is great idea! I will write some stuff down, too.  At least ask your onc, Harley, to draw some blood and tell you if your Vitamin D level is acceptable. I guess, you have to tell them what you want them to do. My onc gets annoyed with me on occations b/c I ask her to draw blood to check my vitamin levels. Nevertheless, she complies. After all, we are the comsumers. We have to be our own advocates.

I decided to wait with the gym until I am completely well. I am still coughing. However, I rode my bike to work and back. Did it rather slowly and bundled up properly.

Ladies- I want you all to know that I am so grateful to have you all as my bc sisters. This journey is less lonely for me because of you all. Thank you for being there for me, always. Smooches !

    Survivor,

Awww...  I am so glad to have you as my breast friend, too!  Love ya!

I don't have to ask him about ordering blood work, unless it's something unusual.  Last time, I hadn't seen my primary care dr. for awhile, so I asked him to also run a thyroid panel.  He did.  He always does vitamin D, too...  BUT, he doesn't do tumor markers, he doesn't think they are 'reliable'...

    Hugs

Hi ladies, I didn't check in during the weekend, but thought of you!  Love the 'breast friends' term Harley!  Hope your headaches aren't from your sinuses Harley, how are you feeling today?

Survivor, always thinking of you.  That nasty cold did a number on you didn't it?  When your onc checked your vitamin levels, was it all your vitamin levels?  That intrigues me.  I have my vit D level checked but not my other vitamin levels.  My onc also does all the blood work but really doesn't believe in tumor markers either, not enough scientific evidence to back up the results.  But she will run whatever test I ask, but she gives me her opinion too, which I love.

Babysat our little GDD on Saturday, along with the doggies, we were worn out!  BUT, we ended up putting on some music and danced and ran all over the house, we were cracking up and our hearts rate were high!  I even got DH to do some basic yoga moves, he said he loves yoga, it was hysterical!

    Kari,

yes, I think it's a sinus infection.  I see my primary care dr. tomorrow, so will probably leave with a script for antibiotics...

    I like the breast friends...

Glad you had a nice time with the GDD.

I can't sleep so I am on FB.

Thinking of you Harley. I hope your appointment goes well today.

Kari- thank you for your positive thoughts. I am better with my cold. Still coughing tough. To answer you: I don't always get my vitamin levels checked but would like to. In fact, I am "shopping" for a primary care doc who will do that and more. Otherwise, we are on our own and I feel that I need some guidance.

Deanna- how did you find your naturopathic doctor? Are they very expensive?

Spring - It is great to have you back. How was your trip?

I am going to the gym today. I did a bike ride yesterday and felt so good to be out in the balmy weather. I was overdressed for riding and was sweating a lot, but it felt great to out and moving about.

    Anybody heard of Joy?

Glad you east coast cuties are enjoying some nicer weather!

Gentle yoga Monday night, our instructor had a tough few days with a couple of deaths in her family and is now the care giver to her 14 year old brother.  Bless her heart for even showing up! Such a sweetie.  Walked at lunch yesterday and then babysat, now she's a workout!  Same program tonight.

I'm wondering if we have to find a naturopath doc to run these vitamin tests.  I will email my primary care doctor and find out.  Will report back!

Spring, so happy to see you again!  By the way, your post on FB regarding the brussel sprouts/asparagus/walnuts looked amazing.  Do you cut the sprouts in half for this recipe?

Thinking of the rest of you including Joy and kmmd...

Email back from my primary care doctor (I asked her several questions):

    Hi Kari,
I'm not sure about what vitamins you should have post breast cancer. Your oncologist will probably be a better person to ask. We don't think we have a Naturopathic physician in Kaiser, you can also ask the member services about that if we do.

2.As far as questions on nutrition, if you want to talk to a nutritionist, I'll put in a referral for you.
    3. As far as gluten intolerance there's a blood test for that, I've put it in for you. Just go to lab.
    4. I'm not sure if Arimidex causes insomnia, you can talk ask the oncologist about that. For now, I would recommend taking OTC melatonin supplement and keeping routine schedules for good sleep.

Insomnia sources: . - A very interesting book about insomnia management By Dr Hauri. . NO MORE SLEEPNESS NIGHTS. ISBN: 0-471-14904-7 . -
You also can check out an online insomnia available to you as a Kaiser member. .
Simply follow these steps:. 1) Go to kp.org/mydoctor/nourkarzoun. http://www.permanente.net/homepage/doctor/nourkarzoun/.
    2) Once you are at the webpage, click on the link: Healthy Living Resources - ONLINE PROGRAMS.
    3) Then click on Healthy Lifestyle Programs.
    4) choose link: Get a good night's sleep with Overcoming Insomnia. . - Insomnia classes offered by Kaiser.

Kari- you have a Great doctor. I have to demand various blood works from mine. Mine, sadly, would never just say: "just go to lab" "I already ordered it for you" Wow! You are lucky Kari.  I do agree with the melatonin supplement and the regular sleep schedule. When I don't hit the bed at 10 PM I either can't fall asleep right way or that I don't get my 7.5-8 hours sleep. The more regular my sleep schedule the better I sleep and need no "sleepy tea" or other aid.

Rode my bike for about 50 minutes today. Also got soaked in the rain on the way back. Now I worry about getting another cold. Took a hot shower. Hope I won't get sick again with the cold.

Survivor, yes I'm lucky with my doctors.  My onc is on vacation so I can't email her until 11/28.  Hopefully you don't catch another cold.  What will you do when it gets really wintery out and chilly?  Will you still ride your bike?

When I get a chance to get on the website (you do have to be a kaiser member), I will post some info.  Busy busy today at work though.  Did my brisk walk at lunch!

    Hi Everyone,

Survivor, Congrats on riding your bike outside. I'm sure (despite the rain), being outside is better than a stationary bike. I did 30 minutes of biking today, 30 minutes walking, squats and lunges. Boy legs are still weak 7 weeks after chemo. Weight is still up also. Days like this it is hard to feel motivated when I look at my lumpy, lopsided bald body.

I have to try a bit harder-- going to NYC a week before xMas and would like to do some shopping for clothes in my old size.

Cath - wow, I am impressed! You did a lot of exercising today.  I remember after chemo I was so run down I had to have a blood transfusion. It took me a while to feel strength in my legs. Yoga helped me a lot.

Kari - I think you are right. It might be time to stop riding my bike and just walk.  I can walk to work. Only it is a lot quicker and easier to ride my bike.  I also enjoy it a lot. But maybe it is not the season any more.

Survivor, jealous of your 50 min bike ride! I did 90 min yoga again tonight, felt good.

80 degrees here and now we have a Tornado watch. High tomorrow will be 55 so the weather is turning!

DH says there's a new beautiful greenway trail in town we want to try. I wonder if we can get a warm day this weekend.

I AM OFF WORK NEXT WEEK, WHOOOOT! I am going to exercise every day, cook healthy meals, and garden. I have 30 bulbs to get into the ground! I can't wait!!

Cath, you are doing a lot!  You will build strength again, slowly.  NYC for shopping sounds fun, I've never been.

Jealous of all the bike riding and that new greenway Spring sounds wonderful! Hope you get to try it.  I'm off next week too.  Have Monday to myself and babysitting Tues/Wed - those will be tiring days, have to be at DD's house by 6am, ugh!

No walk at lunch, coworker treated me to salad bar at Whole Foods for a great pkg we did and the client loved it!  And lucky me, there was a sample station of great quality dark chocolates form Seattle, and of course I had to sample them...after my salad bar!  heehee

We are getting a hard freeze here tonight! Like 29 degrees! I have bulbs to plant. Luckily, it will warm up over the next few days. And over this wkend and next week there will be days where we can bike ride.

I have off all next week! Pinch me!

Today was a day of rest. My 2 nights in a row Yoga body is sore and wants to rest. Tomorrow, I think its the elliptical beast, it will be too cold to cycle!

Hi Ladies- nice to hear you are doing well and exercising. I am thinking about going back to the gym tonight, too. I saw my onc and my clinical trial nurse yesterday so I thought  to give myself another day of rest last night. Also, last night I just wanted to have fun after the onc visit and went out with a friend. We had super healthy macro-biotic food at Souen in Soho. I loved it. Check it out.

OK, I am going to put my gym stuff together and head to work. Have a great day everyone!

I could have sworn I'd posted yesteday right after I'd walked an hour, but I must have forgotten to hit the submit button.  Chemo brain, I'm sure, especially after the funny thing that happened to me last night. DH & I were going out to a large cocktail party, and as I was dressing, I slipped on one each of some new shoes I'd recently bought -- same style, different colors.  But I obviously got sidetracked because I don't remember ever looking in a mirror to see which I preferred.  So we're at the party, and someone complimented me on my shoes, and I was more than a little surprised when I looked down to see that I was still wearing one burgundy shoe and one charcoal shoe!!!  hahahahaha

Souen looks really interesting, survivor!  What did you have to eat?

Have a great weekend everyone!    Deanna

Deanna- I really needed to laugh. Thank you so much for your story about your mismatched shoes at the cocktail party. You rock!

At Souen last night, believe it or not, I had very simple food. I had the Macro plate (squash, kale, broccoli, brown rice, seaweed, carrot, and beans/lentils with tahini sauce, olive oil and sesame seed sprinkle. If you go to this website there is a photo.

    http://www.fritzhaeg.com/wikidiary/2010/03/10/on-march-10th-2010-souen/2010-03-10/

Tonight I am having Indian food. Chicken shaag. (Chicken with spinach) It is a take-out but was craving Indian.

Spring- I didn't know you can plant bulbs in the fall. Will they survive the winter? I am not a gardener, but I never knew you can do that in the fall.

Painstakingly, but I was able to do 30 minutes on the elliptical tonight and also rode my bike back and forth the gym. (It was not so cold tonight and I had my long down coat on with a thick scarf around my neck.)

Q: Did any of you Ladies take Herceptin? Did you gain weight while on Herceptin? I am eating healthy and no more than what I used to eat before, yet I am putting on weight. I am puzzled.

Deanna,  too funny about the shoes!!

I think I am in trouble with my onc.  I was supposed to see him on 11/11...  He sent me a letter saying something came up and they rescheduled me to 11/14, but I called and rescheduled to 11/18.  I got a phone call yesterday, changing it again...  this time to Monday, 11/21...  I called and changed it to FRIDAY 12/2....      I really think he is upset because in June I told him that I wanted to go to once a year appts....

so I guess he wants to DUMP me...   what next??

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
