Hello ladies!
It is great to just read back over your post and find some comfort. I am having my surgery Nov. 8th and even more scared now that its actually happening! It has been such a relief to have it all scheduled and in the works cause it has been such a long year with so many doctor appointments. I am just ready for it to be over with now! I did all my Pre Op stuff this week and it really hit me hard that it is all happening so soon! I just hope my boobs look normal when its all said and done and I can do everything I did before! My oldest brother who is 34 had a back surgery a few years ago and the surgeon cut his main artery to his heart. After complaining for 2 days he fainted and realized he really was bleeding internally, almost losing his life. It was very scary and has forever changed his life and will never be the same. Surgery and doctors have always been a fear of mine and I have seen my Mom go through so many just fine but what happen to my brother has really freaked me out!!!

I don't blame you for being nervous - it is a very nerve wracking thing!! Your brother's situation is totally different from yours. I assume you have a different surgeon than he had, right? You can ask your surgeon how often he has certain complications such as post mastectomy pain or lymphedema or infection rates. I asked mine about these, never mind that he is considered one of the best breast surgeons, I wanted all the info up front.
I have zero complications, am almost 2 years out, feel great and no problems. If you search around Youtube you can see some films made by younger women who underwent bilateral mx plus recon. One is a BRCA+ girl. It gives a clear picture of the process.
Mainly - don't be scared!! It is much better to have surgery than to have cancer! You will make it through and be ok. (((((hugs)))))

My brothers situtation was totally different but very traumatic for me. He lives in New Mexico. I am in Houston and using some great surgeons that did my Mom's mastectomy.

Hey! I had my surgery Tuesday & I am doing good! I have 4 drains & the are the most uncomfortable thing! Hopefully get them out on Thursday! I do have a question & I made a post a few days ago but didn't get any replies. My right nipple started turning purple a few days after surgery & it has gotten darker and covering a larger area. Is this just bruising or scanning or will I possibly lose my nipple?!? I talked to the nurse but they font seem to be concerned. Anyone have this issue?!
