Anyone with IDC in Boston Area?
I was just diagnosed - haven't even met my team yet, but I'm going to Newton Wellesley because my regular doctors are there and a friend who had stage 4 BC went there. Curious were eveyrone else is going and if you have been to NWH. Thanks!

Hi, I am going to Dana Farber in Boston. Had my surgery at Faulkner. After you meet your team at NWH you may just want to get a second opinion at Dana Farber since it is so close by. Good Luck!!

3girls - does Dana Farber do the surgery or are they just for the after treatment?

Hi
I went to Dana Farber in Boston. They are part of Brigham & Women's and B&W has a breast Center at Faulkner hospital in Jamaica Plain (like 10 minutes from Dana Farber). I had surgery in October and have all my doctors at Faulkner (breast surgeon, plastic surgeon and medical oncologist). I'm lucky my IDC was tiny so I don't need chemo or radiation but I believe they do it all over at the Faulkner (there's a cancer center on the 5th floor).
Good Luck!

I have been treating at Dana Farber in Weymouth for the past year. The docs at Dana Farber do not acutally perform the surgery. I had my surgery done at South Shore Hospital. Most of my docs are at MGH but they assured me I would be okay at SSSH for the surgery and they were right - all went well. I cannot say enough for the entire staff at DFCC in Weymouth. They were and still are wonderful all through my surgery, radiation and general treatment. I highly recommend DFCC in Weymouth.

Kayce234, My surgery was done at the Faulkner. They do it at Faulkner or the brigham depending on the DR. They were great. They also have a Dana Farber satellite in Milford( I see you are from Millis). I am going to have my radiation there when it is time- but I am going to have my chemo in Boston. I live in Upton. I felt more comfortable going to a designated cancer center especially since we are so close. I had a friend that was treated in Milford and she loved it!

Kayce234,
Sorry you're joining us, but welcome! I was diagnosed at Emerson in Concord and had my initial meetings there but I went to MGH for a multi-consult second opinion. I would highly recommend it. We (DH and I) met with a medical oncologist, surgeon and radiation oncologist all in the same day. The team then met and discussed my case face to face and reported back in the afternoon. It was great to get the information so quickly and I felt like our path was clear. Members of the team initially disagreed slightly as to the course of treatment (whether to do a sentinal node biopsy immediately or wait for the big surgery) but after discussing my case were able to explain to me why they were making the recommendation they did.
I would have felt comfortable with either Dana Farber or MGH. Whoever you choose I'd look for a surgeon who does nothing but breast surgeries. My surgeon, Michelle Specht, has been wonderful and I would highly recommend her. I am doing neo-adjuvant chemo at MGH and will stay there for my surgery then switch to Emerson for my radiation. MGH does the bloodwork on the morning of chemo and allows you to give yourself your own Neulasta shot so you only have to spend one day at the hospital. I've found it very doable. Feel free to PM me.
Just found this thread as well...

I would like to edit my recent post to you. Upon reviewing it I noticed I said Dana Farber docs do not do the surgery - that is incorrect. They do not perform surgery at Dana Farber whether it be Boston or Weymouth but they are Dana Farber doctors.

Thanks so much for all the information. How amazing that we live in this area and have so many choices of so many wonderful hospitals. I think my final decision is going to end up beign Dana Farber. I am meeting with a surgeon at NWH today to get the run down and have set up an appointment with a Team at Dana Farber for the 29th. I'm excited because I was able to get the Chief of Breast Surgery as my doctor!! I will then meet with a team at NWH on the 1st and decide which to go with - but I think I'm leaning towards DF after reviewing there site and all the support they offer.

I also had my surgery at BIDMC and LOVEW my surgeon! She was awesome. Dr. Maryjane Houlihan. She was very thorough, never rushed me and told me all my options. I also asked that my case be presented to a Dana Farber board that works with BIDMC ( and most Boston area hospitals). It was wonderfult o have her expertise and all of Dana Farbers too. Best of luck!

Dana Farber is the BEST, BEST, BEST. I give thanks every day for making yhe decision to go there, even though it's 125 miles from where I live. I'd go there no matter where I lived. Honestly. They are all so good, wise, kind, just can't say enough good things about Dana Farber.
SO sorry you have to be going through this - but you are in the BEST place for treatment.
