Corrine you are exercising? Muscle weighs more than fat and so at first can actually increase your weight. At some point soon the muscle will start using your calories more efficiently and you will probably lose weight.

I am. I started running recently and have been running 3-4x a week from anywhere from 30-45 min. Okay. I hope you are right.
I don't want to lose a lot, but 5-10 lbs would be nice. Just don't understand while I am active, I am even more active now and the weight stays the same.

Last year I worked with a trainer and dropped two sizes before I lost weight. Don't worry.

Oh, Corrine, are you taking Tamoxifen or other meds that could have side effects?

I went vegan, no processed foods, no sugar etc...and I gained 10 lbs after rads, but my hormones came raging back too! I think my body is really really confused right now, oh wait, so am I....
today my food choice was a veggie burger at a restaurant - the bun was soaked in butter....the burger was full of white rice and cheese....lesson learned. Why serve a veggie burger in the first place?

No sugar flax muffin and a banana for breakfast. Salad with quinoa chips and a scoop of home made guacamole for lunch. Small bowl of unsweetened granola (4grams sugar) green tea and an orange for snack and finally, arugula with turmeric and black pepper chicken breast and sauteed veggies for dinner. Very hungry today, but I have been exercising a lot so hopefully it will be OK.

Yes, I am taking tamoxifen--but (and don't flame me) I believe that I lost weight. It stated that the side effects could be losing weight and I dropped lbs pretty fast after I started taking it. I lost about 10 lbs. I have gained back 5 of them. Not sure if this was stress related, med related or a combo.
Over the weekend we ate out a lot bc we were painting and I didn't want to break to make meals, with the exception of one in the crockpot. I had a veggie kabob, veggie sub, veggie hummas plate and (don't flame me again) beef stew. But I made the beef stew and everything was organic (the stock. the peas, the carrots, the potatoes), and no hormone meat from Whole Foods.
You know what--I don't miss meat at all. This was the first time I had had red meat since May. I didn't miss the texture, the flavor...anything. I found myself loading up on the carrots and I was happy with that. I was thinking that I would treat myself to a steak and wine on my birthday in Feb, and I think I would be happier with a veggie combo plate and glass of wine.

I read in my research that Tamoxifen can act as an appetite stimulant for some women, and thus the weight gain SE. Anyone else read this?
I ate lunch out today and had half a green and grain salad with cranberries, wheatberry, tabouleh and quinoa, basalmic on the side. Added a broiled chicken breast to it. I did indulge in a lovely warm slice of crusty multigrain sourdough dipped in olive oil. The rest of my salad is waiting for my dinner.

I tried Whole Foods Mediterranean Crunch Salad, with some spinach, Brussel sprouts, asparagus, and mushrooms.
I'm going to try for two more weeks to eat completely vegan, but I'm going to focus on the low sugar, low carb veggies this time. Someone showed me the book Belly Fat Diet, which has good explanations of sugars and carbs in just about everything. I have been doing the vegan thing for the triple neg diag, but now I"m not sure what I'm doing anymore.....so confused.....
Do I need no animal first, or low fat first, or drop weight first, thank goodness I see my MO in two weeks. In the book almost every type of fish is 0 sugars and 0 carbs....not sure what is best for me anymore.................

Green tea and a Lara bar today for lunch. Tonight I had vegan/korean dish of steamed veggies, a spicy sauce over brown rice.
Our floors are being refinished, so we can't get into the kitchen (sealed off to keep out the dust and it stuffed full of furniture too) so we continue to eat out. Trying to make the healthiest of choices. Tomorrow will be a salad or veggie sub for dinner and soup for lunch.
What is everyone making for Thanksgiving? I got a no-hormone, veggie fed, free range turkey and plan on making organic pumpkin pies as well as organic cranberry sauce.
I don't want to use as much sugar in the cranberry sauce as I had in the past (1cup water, mixed with 1 cup sugar, add in cranberrys, simmer until they pop and cool). Any ideas of what I can use instead of sugar for cranberry sauce?

Corinne, cranberries and oranges are an unbeatable combination. Why not cook them with fresh-squeezed orange juice and omit the water? Or maybe cook them in water and stir in some chopped up clementines or canned mandarins.

(Cross-posting from another thread; sorry if you run across this twice!)My good choice today was Brussels sprouts. They were so good I might just make them again for Thanksgiving. I hated Brussels sprouts for DECADES before I learned some good ways to cook them. Now they are one of my favorite things to eat! If you do it right, they are really yummy! But I bet your moms and grandmas just boiled the living heck out of them like mine did -- EWWW. Check out this month's issue of Whole Living magazine -- the Thanksgiving issue. There's a *beautiful* brussels sprouts dish on the cover. They are roasted with red grapes and walnuts and tossed with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I made it tonight for my whole family, and they all kept raving about it! There was NONE left over because after dinner everyone kept picking bites off the platter while we sat and visited.It was easy, too. (I made the acorn squash stuffed with quinoa, feta and pistachios from that issue, too. Yum!)

Ooh Lulubee, that sounds delish. I am going to have to pick that up and try that out. My son and I love brussel sprouts, but I have only roasted them in the past with a little olive oil, salt and pepper. I will look for this and pick up a copy bc I would love try them out with grapes and walnuts.

Corinne do you use Stevia as a sweetener? I have found some good success with it if you need a little added sweetness with the oranges and cranberries.
I think I will add some white beans and oregano to my leftover whole wheat couscous and put it on top of something green as my good choice today.

Good choices today were green tea, bran muffin and banana. I had peppers, bean and rice for lunch. I took my first 5 mile run today and I am pretty sore right now. Not sure if I will have dinner. If I do, I think it will be soup.

started to follow the Belly Fat Diet today - as a vegan, on a low fat diet. Think I should start eating cardboard! lol. Well at least I love a challenge. Maybe one day we can all get together and write a cookbook!
Today I counted sugar and carbs in veggies......now why did mother nature go and ruin them! jk
Brussel spouts and asparagus microwaved for two minutes at work with garlic, pepper and olive oil, served with wilted spinach and mushroom salad, sprinkled with ground flax seed.

Didn't eat much yesterday. I had nipple reconstruction surgery in the am and was feeling hung over until about 7pm last night and was asleep by 8:30.
I had a bowl of cheerios with almond milk when I got home, a banana and a little bit of mashed potatoes last night. Today I plan on having an almond milk, almond paste and banana smoothie. Tonight we are going to a BYOB and bring your own food trivia contest/fundraiser. I need to go shopping this afternoon and pick up food for tonight. I am hoping to find an organic wine, as I would like 1 glass, but if I can't, then I won't. I plan on bringing hummas, whole wheat pitas and carrot sticks as my finger food for the table and maybe some nixed dried fruit with nuts and grapes.

Lacking creativity today and so bought a frozen Kashi 7-grain veggie pizza. Not the very best choice but if you're going to eat pizza... it was pretty good. I drizzled a little sun dried tomato on it.
For dinner I am roasting whatever veggies are in the drawer to empty it out in preparation for my Thanksgiving shopping trip.

This thread is making me hungry! I bought brussel sprouts today as part of our Thanksgiving feast and can't wait to cook them. I noticed a few of you eating Flax Seeds; my oncologist has never given me the go ahead to eat them but I haven't actually asked him about them lately. What's the latest school of thought on whether they are safe to eat if your cancer was estrogen positive? thank you!

Broccoli and parsnips for lunch--I am so proud of myself. Someone asked about sweet potatos--I cube them (with skins on) and add them to my soup bases. They add such a wonderful flavor!

Brigitte~I don't have a clue I'm TN sorry. I'm supposed to follow a low fat diet, and I think flax seed is good fat but fat none the less. I wish there was a book, maybe there is, "So you're TN, here's what to eat to loose weight, fight cancer and stay healthy." I truly am so confused..
Today was veggie medley, with spinach and mock chicken salad.

I do exercise moderation in ingesting flax as well as soy. (I'm not a nutritionist but I play one in my kitchen
My good food choice today was an Israeli salad for lunch (finely chopped cukes, tomato, red onion with lemon, olive oil and salt) with a small piece of chicken breast. And for dinner leftover root veggies. Green tea and an asian pear for snack.
Starting my Thanksgiving crazies...set up tables yesterday. Grocery shopped this morning. About to go clean for my houseguests, arriving tomorrow.

Morning all.
Today' good food choices were green tea and a bran muffin for breakfast, hummas and bagel chips for lunch. Doing holiday shopping now, and thinking of picking up some spinach or brussel sprouts since the family member that is in charge of bringing the veggies is bringing the traditional green bean casserole. I want to have another healthier veggie offering. Although, I will most likely be the only one to eat it.

I just returned from my (more or less) final shopping trip...8am was actually quite manageable at Trader Joes. We all know the bad foods, they will all be present Thursday, but the good choices for Thanksgiving are quinoa pilaf, grilled asparagus, spinach salad and a Tofurkey. Fruit salad for dessert.
Today I am making white bean hummus for the appetizer tray, so I will have some of it along with salad on a whole grain tortilla for lunch.
Houseguests arriving today, so just in case I get caught up I want to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Those are awesome sides. We are having turkey, but I got it direct from the farm with no hormones, antibotics etc. Its 32#! We are having all of the traditional things--mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, stuffing, green bean casserole and I am sure pillsbury rolls. I tried to keep my part (the turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pies and stuffing) as close to organic as possible; using organic veggies, organic chicken broth, organic cranberries, etc. I will be purchasing a whole wheat or whole grain bread, since I plan on having the brussel sprouts, turkey, whole grain bread, sweet potatoes w/o marshmellows and cranberries.
The leftover turkey will be made into a turkey salad with tumeric, curry, walnuts, dried cranberries and veganiase. I know I know...veganaise on meat. But I like it so much better than mayo.
