My First Ambien
Comments
-
I only take half an ambien each night. A whole one causes me to do strange things that
I never remember. Just have to be careful with it.
-
Hi BlueCowgirl. I have been on ambien since I was diagnosed. I take one faithfully every night. I have no problems with it. I can't say I sleep like a baby cause babies get up every 3 hours and I sleep all night. Hope it's the same with you. Good luck.
-
BGail, I am very careful with it...I only drive where the walrus tells me to.
MillieD, where does that "sleep like a baby" saying come from anyway? Kinda like "healthy as a horse" - whoever made that one up is cordially invited to pay my vet bills...
-
I've taken 10 mg of Ambien every night for 18 months and the only thing I do at night is sleep! No weirdness that I'm aware of ( my DH would happily tell me if there was). It is so good to finally get restful, deep sleep. It's the only way I can get through all this Stage IV stuff. I have no plans to stop it anytime soon. The generic is super cheap too!
-
Ambien - love it love it love it! I take 12.5 mg every night and never want to stop. I've always had insomnia problems, but when BC came along sleep was utter hell. So I have embraced my medicated state and I love my sleep.
Yes, I have done some pretty odd things which I have little memory of. (Hubby and I have some morning conversations that go like "Did I cook myself some kale last night?" "Did I really have a phone conversation at 12:30 last night with my cousin?" The key - don't take the pill until you are in safe surroundings, in your own home, and with your family around to look out for you. Never take it before driving! I took one when I was leaving work after a long horrendous night, figuring I'd be home a half hour before it kicked in. My smashed in fender (hit my own mailbox) tells me that was a bad idea.
-
Seriously, you guys crack me up - Blue Cowgirl - Please let the walrus come out and entertain us again - I might have to get some - just for fun.....,
-
The generic delivers everything at once; so if your problem is waking up during the night, you will want the (more expensive) name brand.
-
Blue Cowgirl, we love the walrus!
I have been taking ambien for several years (ok, I'll admit, prior to my BC diagnosis), I take the Ambien 10mg name brand (this is also available generic), the Ambien CR is only name brand. I have tried Ambien 10mg, Ambien10mg generic, and Ambien CR (12.5mg). For some reason the original Ambien 10 works the best for me. I plan to take it everynight for the rest of my well rested life! There are worse things to be addicted to. My copay for the name brand is high, but still cheaper than a glass of good wine per night. I am sooo worth it. I will admit I have had a few late night phone conversations and can't remember them the next day. To bad a side effect couldn't be getting up and exercising or doing laundry.
-
BTW, today is my one year "cancerversery", 11-11-11. Taking an ambien and having a glass of wine too.
-
Happy Cancerversary Christine! Here is more walrus, just for you...fyi I am running low on walrus cartoons...will have to start making my own...the debut will definitely feature underpants and/or Chaka Khan, who will be fun to draw...
-
And here's one for Ellie:
-
-
bluecow girl, I thought all of the walrus cartoons were your work, lol.
-
Christine, your image of me has been shattered. However, I *can* play the banjo while simultaneously unicycling and juggling...(not really)
-
can you do all that while on Ambien??
Sweet dreams to all!
-
Christine, I can *only* do it on Ambien.
Sweet dreams...
-
Cowgirl - you can only "do it" on Ambien?
-
I believe Tigar Woods liked to "do it" on ambien.
-
LOL, I can't even remember the last time I "did it"...Perhaps I am "doing it" on Ambien and then forgetting? Oh well, as long as Chaka Khan and the walrus are not involved with "it" "it"'s all good, right?
-
I took it during the month after my diagnosis because I could not sleep from the stress. I loved it at the time. It knocked me out and I slept great. After taking it for a while I started having problems with mild dizziness (a common SE) so I stopped taking it and switched to ativan, which also was great for sleeping.
Be careful though. I have heard some really funny and crazy stories about people on ambien! LOL.
-
LOVE the walrus singing "Chaka Khan"....by the way I have had that song stuck in my head since, I don't know....Wednesday or Thursday. I knew she was the queen of funk, but not that she was the queen of funky perfume! Oh boy...it's midnight, and I was waiting for my daughter to get home for the evening before I have my walrus visit.....good night!

Goodnight, BlueCowgirl, have just taken my Ambien, along with a Benedryl (gives the Ambien a bit more oomph) let the cats out, locked up the house, turned off the lights, let some of the cats back in, took a shower, let one of the cats back out, checked my email, made a to-do list for tomorrow, let all cats back in, one of whom is working on hacking up a hairball, and am getting that nice woozy, deliciously sleepy feeling. Love them little white pills.
-
Goodnight Weesa, that is *much* more exciting than my post-Ambien pre-sleep routine...although I did get lost on the way to the bathroom for my prophylactic pee last night. Oh, and tonight I let the Walrus in, but I'll probably put him back out before I turn in...He's not showing any signs of having a hairball, but one can never be too careful when it comes to things like this. Exercise caution when taking Ambien, right folks? 'Night.
-
goodnight all, thanks for the art bluecowgirl.
-
Goodnight Christine.
Goodnight John Boy.
-
12.5CR is also now generic!!! My insurance only pays for generic when it is available...I switch off between the 12/5Cr and the 10mg regular as it seems that after several days in a row, they don't work as well....and some times I add 1mg Ativan to the 10mg Ativan.....they should give you a solid 4 -6 hours sleep, but I never get more than 4 hours and sometimes not even that...I try not to take it every night.....but it works better than any other sleep aid that I tried....granted I haven't tried anything else in several years, but nothing ever worked as well as Ambien.....
-
Perish the thought! (Of Walrus having a hairball, that is.)
-
weesa, have you taken your ambien yet tonight? I am having a very crazy thought about going to a 5:15 am spin class, may need to take my pill early tonight.
-
Weesa, I thought I was the only one doing the ambien + benedryl cocktail...sweet, eh? Just right for me, however that is great news about the 12.5 CR going generic. That's what my onc prescribed but I couldn't afford $125 a month to sleep well. I'll have to get a new prescription! Thanks, Karen!
Love the walrus drawings, BlueCowgirl, very funny.
