bone scan
I'm trying not to worry too much, but my oncologist ordered a bone scan because of some back pain I've been having. The pain started a couple months ago. It was originally only at night, but now is hurting really badly in the day. The origin of the pain is down near my tailbone, but my left hip is now hurting. I know there are a million things that can cause pain, and it is probably going to be nothing serious, but I still am a bit worried. I hate waiting for test results! I won't even find out until Monday WHEN they are going to do the scan, because I had the last appointment of the day today, and it was too late to schedule the scan.

changes, I had a bone scan today for pain in my tailbone, of course, just like you I was thinking the worst. Radiologist reviewed scan with me immediately and no mets. Probably soft tissue injury from increased activity or who knows what. Hang in there!

Thanks Christine! I know it's probably nothing, but I'll feel better when the results come back.

Hi Changes, no matter where we are on this journey, any unusual pain will send our minds to the dreaded mets and the thought that a scan will pick up activity always scares us so you are not alone with that. I just wanted to let you know that we are here if you want to talk. Here's hoping the scsans are clear for you.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Thanks Chrissy - I appreciate the support. I don't worry as much as I did last year, but I still worry some. Guess this is part of the new normal.

Changes, We can't help but worry. I was found to have lots of degenerative changes in my lower back and I was having hip pain - hip pain sent me to the doctor. Nothing was found other than the degenerativve changes.
Now they think I may have bone mets and I had no symptoms. I wasn't expecting this. I am 6 years out and the waiting and wondering doesn't get any easier. I had no nodes involved. I'm waiting to have my bone biopsy.
I know you are worried and scared - only natural.. Only advice I can give is stay busy so the time passes quickly. Stay busy with family and friends - these are the things I am doing.
Truly sorry that this has come up and needs to be checked out.
-
naniam, sorry, I hope they are wrong on the bone mets!
I feel such a distust of my body, I really hope at some point I don't feel worry over every lump, bump, ache and pain.
-
Naniam,
So sorry about the possible bone mets. When is your biopsy?
Christine - I'm with you on distrusting my body. I don't know how to distinguish between pains I should worry about and pains I shouldn't worry about.
-
I had my bone biopsy yesterday and a bone aspiration also.
I never suspected this; never thought it would happen. I think the best thing any of us can do is to live our life not thinking of BC - we need to enjoy and find joy in everyday things and laugh with family and friends.
Worry and stress are not good for us. I have enjoyed my 6 years - plan on enjoying quite a few more too.
I had no nodes involved but here I am - doesn't make sense. Live as if you have kicked it to the curb; if it returns you have LIVED, Laughed and loved.
-
Naniam,
I am so sorry that your news has been bad. Sending hugs your way.

changes - when will you get your results?
-
I get my results Friday. I tried to play amateur radiologist during the scan, and nothing looked all that frightening (at least there weren't a whole bunch of black areas, like some of the ones I looked at on the internet). Of course, I have no idea what I'm looking at, but I'm trying to be hopeful. They did tell me I have scoliosis (which I kind of remember a chiropractor telling me years ago) - I'm hoping maybe that is what's contributing to the back pain.
-
okay - I'm right here with you waiting on results. Praying for all good news for you

The news is good - I have developed arthritis in the past year - nothing more! I am very relieved. I have it in my lower back (where the pain is) and in my shoulders (where I have no pain at all).
Thanks for the support!
-
yay changes!!! I'm doing the happy dance with and for you! Enjoy your weekend!!!
-
So thankful all is well. Celebrate !
-
Thanks Naniam! It is VERY kind of you to be thinking about me with everything you have going on. Sending prayers and hugs your way.
