Approx 24 hours ago my right arm (lymph nodes removed 8 years ago) became increasingly painful.  Almost mimicing Rotator Cuff issues.  No swelling, just horrible pain if I move my arm any which way.  Can lymphadema manifest itself years later as just pain when arm is moved in any direction or am I just being a tad bit "neurotic"?  Any info would be appreciated.

RCL: it's not the typical presentation of lymphedema, but sudden pain in the arm should be checked out--it could be early shingles, nerve pain, rarely--a blood clot--and if all that comes out negative, watch for swelling and consider evaluation by a qualified lymphedema therapist.

Lymphedema, unfortunately, can come on at any time, but the usual presentation is discomfort and fullness--but pain can be part of the picture, but until you're evaluated by a doctor, it's hard to know what this is.

Please let us know how you're doing.

Thank you for the reply.  Am going to wait a couple of days as it does feel better when I take a pain med.  If it still feels the same next week, am thinking I will probably call MD.  Again, thank you for the input!  Always such nice individuals here on these boards......................

RCL, you might putting ice on it but if the pain persists you should definitely have it checked out.

RCL, in case it is lymphedema, you want to be careful of extreme temperatures, which can make it worse. So if you're using ice be sure to wrap it in a towel to keep it from getting to cold on your skin, and limit the time to 10 or 15 minutes at a time.

Please keep us posted! Thinking of you,

Just thought I'd share my ice-pack trick. I take a 2 gallon baggies, one inside of each other, in case of a leak. Fill inside bag only partial with 1/2 water and 1/2 vodka, squeeze out air bubbles and freeze. The vodka keeps it slushy and it fits almost any part, it stays cold for a long time.
